Work Text:
Jesper hummed a tune from where he sat of a tree stump, watching Klaus chop up wood for the fire. The smoke from the chimney was visible in the distance, and the scent clung to both of their furs like a warm hug. It’s become comforting to Jesper now. The scent, the company, the thud of the axe cutting through thick trunks. Klaus’ strong arms tightening the sleeves of his coat. This once miserable and grumpy man, now softened again into his kind and caring self.
He and Klaus both knew somehow that Klaus’ wife approved. That she was thankful to have him be himself, and be happy once again. Even in the arms of someone else. Jesper would forever be grateful she saw the good in him. Good enough for her husband. They’d never forget her. They’d honour her. And they’d see her when it was their time too.
