Summary
Clancy has spent years learning how to survive outside Dema.
He knows how to read maps, survive missions, and recognize danger before it reaches the camp. What he doesn’t know how to do is accept being cared for without wondering what it will cost him.
Torchbearer is patient. He makes room for Clancy without asking him to explain why he needs it. Somewhere between shared missions, quiet nights by the fire, and moments neither of them quite knows how to name, Clancy begins to realize that being close to someone doesn’t have to mean losing himself.
But old lessons are harder to leave behind than walls.
