Work Text:
Fluixon was regretting his decisions already.
He needed to study for midterms, and he was, before Microspr- Ish, Thomas had given him a key to their dorm without even asking Flux, rude much?- had barged in and dragged Thomas out to some frat party at Westhelm. And of course, by association, he was forced out too.
”Oh, come on,” Micro has said, bouncing on his feet. Flux was pretty sure he was already a little high, if not only for the faint smell of weed and the more obvious sign of his eyes being pinker than they usually were. “You seriously cannot be holed up like this, this is one of the-“
He launched into some explanation about how this was going to be Schpoods best party for the ages, or something like that. Fluixon wasn’t really listening in all honesty. Fuck if he knew. He reached for his phone, planning on turning up the music through his headphones up higher to mask the noise of Micro and Thomas talking. That worked for approximately three minutes.
“ixon-?” Thomas had moved the headphones off his ears, and he looked up, startled, before fixing Thomas with a glare. He snatched his headphones back from Thomas, but didn’t put them back on yet. He knew it would be pointless. Thomas would just grab them back and probably hide them later from pettiness. “If I’m coming, you are too.”
”I have to-“
”Dude. Sera, Snow, Gotoga, Hvyro, I think even Newkids-“ he looked briefly at Micro, who nodded energetically. “-are attending.”
And unfortunately, the idea of their friend group actually being able to hang out with each other again convinced him too easily. It had been forever since all of them got together- schedules conflicting too much. Only small chunks of them had gotten the opportunity to meet in the last months.
Walking into Westhelm immediately bombarded his senses.
It was awfully bright, yet too dim at the same time, light scattering throughout the frat house, glittering over various shiny surfaces. You could catch a glimpse of a person afar every once in a while, and had enough light to at least see five feet around you, but other than that, not much else could be said. Westhelm’s parties was pretty much known for two things; you always got blackout drunk at them and you always ran into some table when said drunk with how dark it got later into the night.
Flux nearly lost Thomas and Micro barely five seconds into walking in, people funneling around them. That was another thing. It was like nearly every single person and their mothers were here, overcrowding the house. The music was loud enough to probably cause some sort of hearing damage- temporary or long term, only Ish knows- yet people were still laughing and yelling loud enough to be heard over it.
Truly, the pinnacle of frat parties.
As they pushed through the crowd, Micro had spotted- Flux couldn’t quite remember their names, one of them being named Neptune..? He wasn’t sure- and quickly said his byes to him and Thomas before wandering over there. If it wasn’t so loud, Fluixon would’ve held his snort back a little more at the awfully lovesick look Thomas gave to Micro’s back.
“Holy shit! It’s Flux!” Both of them turned, seeing Snowbird grinning at the two of them with the others. “You actually got him to come out?”
”Surprise,” He deadpanned, before looking around, squinting his eyes to no avail. “Where’s the drink table?”
”Where it always is,” Seraphim said, walking past them.
”Where’re you going-?”
”To find Jophiel!”
Snowbird just rolled his eyes, grumbling something under his breath before turning to Thomas, starting to ask him about Micro- whether it was to tease him, or ask for drugs, he wasn’t sure. Fluixon didn’t bother finding out, moving already to find the drink table. He would need to be at least a bit tipsy to get through this night. Everybody does to tolerate the Westhelm environment.
Fluixon shoved his way past through people of various levels of drunkenness, cursing all the way through in his mind. How could he have let himself be convinced so easily to go to this shit? Too late now, he supposed. Best he could do to remedy this was drink his ass off and forget he was in a frat house with far too many people and too loud music blasting.
He was pretty sure he made someone spill their drink, based on the vague shout- or was it just part of the music?- behind him, and he muttered a half hearted apology. He doubted the person would even hear him. Or the person was even sober enough to process it.
Eventually, he reached the shitty kitchen- there was always some random gunk on the countertops, or some burnt food because nobody could cook for shit in Westhelm- and fumbled for a red solo cup, before looking for a glass of- anything. He didn’t care what he was going to grab. He just hoped whatever it was was going to be strong.
As he was squinting to try and look at the bottle labels, he bumped into someone, cursing. He looked up- glaring a bit, ready to blame it on the other. He stopped. The guy in front of him looked like Micro, just, well…
He had the same moles Micro did under his eyes, his hair color was the same, but his hair was styled differently, longer, with a braid. He wanted to reach out, feel if it felt as soft as it looked. He was wearing a white polo, unlike Micro with his purple hoodie, and… oh, Ish. He was fucking blinding under the lights when they passed by. Not in the way Micro glowed, no, this was different. He sparkled so bright he wanted to shield his eyes. Maybe this was an angel sent down by Ish, a test of his restraint. Fuck, Fluixon was screwed.
He wasn’t drunk enough for this shit.
“Dude,” The guy said, raising an eyebrow. It made Flux remember he was glaring daggers at this dude. “There’s enough of this for both of us, y’know.” He held up a bottle, and Flux didn’t bother to even look at the label. His heart was pounding in his chest- since when? Fuck, fuck, fuck.
“Yeah, no shit,” He huffed, snatching the bottle and pouring probably too much in his cup. He immediately took a swig, praying for the burn down his throat would be enough to distract him from- whoever this was. And Flux guessed it worked, because the next time he lowered the cup, the man was gone, a dandelion in the wind. He searched the crowd for a moment, looking for that blinding white again. It did not come to his vision once more.
In the back of his mind, he mulled over the similarities of the man he just saw and Micro more. They could be twins. Had Micro ever mentioned that? Fuck if he knew. Thomas probably knew. He drank up all the information he could ever find of Micro (which Flux had called him out for on multiple occasions. Alas, only if he had paid more attention about family…).
He would need a lot more drinks. And maybe he would even hit up Micro for a high. Yes, he would.
Saparata groaned as he unlocked his dorm room, switching the light off and flopping back onto the bed. He felt pleasantly buzzed- Schpood always said he had way too low of a tolerance, “For Ish’s sake, you’ve only done one round of beer pong and had like- a single drink!”- and tired enough to fall asleep there on the spot. It was always exhausting to attend Westhelm parties. Everytime, Schpood insisted for Saps to attend, and he couldn’t bring himself to say no. He’d probably get the frat sicced onto him if he said no, actually. He would like to think Schpood wouldn’t do that to him.
He stared at the ceiling, rubbing his face. He was far too exhausted to shower. His body felt like lead and he did not feel like moving it. He spared a glance at the empty bed on the other side of the room. He doubted Schpood would return to their dorm tonight- the dude would probably pass out in the frat house.
“It’s strategic,” Schpood had once told him. “I pass out there, and I wake up and can clean up the mess made last night! Win-win. I don’t have to wake up and walk over.”
Fattest lie he’d ever heard from Schpood. But he let the man have it.
Just as he was about to doze off, the door to the dorm swung open. Saps groaned, raising one hand leisurely to block the light from the hall from his eyes. He squinted through the light, before pausing. Oh, shit.
He didn’t lock the dorm room, which normally isn’t a big deal- nobody gives a shit about stealing, they were all broke- but this dude was clearly drunk and stumbling in. It took a moment for his hazy mind to realize it was a dude he saw at the party earlier.
He recognized those purple eyes immediately. It wasn’t like you met a person with purple eyes everyday. Especially if said person glared at you. He had really, really wanted to talk to him before Jophiel had swept him away to get him to join some stupid truth or dare game. He had thought about the purple eyed guy the entire time, looking around to try and spot him to no avail.
”Eugh.” He was interrupted by his thoughts from the other speaking. He would’ve gotten up to help him- he was stumbling all over, somehow having enough coordination to lock the door- but Saps found it a bit entertaining. “Where’s… Where’d Thomas go?”
Ah. Right.
This was some stranger, stumbling into his dorm.
“Wrong dorm, dude,” he muttered. It was like the guy didn’t even hear him, fumbling with his shoes now before going toward the other bed and lying on it, face down. His hair was sticking up, and Saps turned over to look at him. He wanted to smooth it over…
It was the alcohol. He should really kick this dude out. But again, it wasn’t really like Schpood was going to sleep in that bed tonight. It wouldn’t be that bad if he let the handsome stranger he saw tonight crash in his dorm.
Probably.
He was too tipsy to really care, anyway.
”I still don’t get why Thomas gave you a key to our dorm,” The other man whined, words slurring together. “Fuck you, Micro. Just fuckin’ … I dunno, confess or some shit to him already… pisses me off how- hic- how bitchy he gets ‘bout you…”
Before Saps could think of a response or ask who the fuck was this dude- and how did he know Micro- he heard snoring.
Of course.
Fluixon first registered the migraine. Then, the unfamiliar ceiling. Him and Thomas had hung up a map of the world on their dorm. It was very clear he was not in his dorm. He sat up with a start, cursing. At least he had his clothes on, his phone, wallet, and keys. Fuck- he had drank way too much. He took his phone out of his pocket, wincing at the amount of notifications. There were plenty from Cynnika, some missed calls from
Thomas, and a lot of “Where are you?” texts.
He looked around the dorm, trying to figure out where he was. It was then, he noticed, on the bedside table there was a bottle of water and a note. He picked up the water first, taking two long sips before reading the note.
hi! you wandered into my dorm last night on accident. my name is saparata, but you can call me saps. i have to go out early for a class, but do feel free to text me- i’m dying to know ur name ;)
Underneath, a phone number was written. Fluixon unlocked his phone, hoping, praying, this was the person he thought it was going to be.
Across campus, a phone dinged.
