FFXIVWrite Day 14: Against the Grain

Work Text:

One sole voidsent had clawed their way within Nymian society, thought completely unreachable by any other including the Mhachi. There they sought royal blood of deep pockets of aether of which to sup upon, to become renown for accomplishing that which no other dastardly voidsent could! To run their society into the ground and have boundless aether to gorge for a lifetime.

Yet long were these days of boredom. Of obeying one’s pact lest their connection to the Source severed or some worser fate. That royal blood? Oh, they’d found it alright. The kind that drained him of his power instead and procured the weakest of connections to this realm possible. But a flick of the voident’s clawed finger was enough to cause his pactmaker to struggle for breath let alone remain conscious. One move too much is all it would take to cause their death and force him back home against his will.

This connection of theirs… had turned a monstrous voidsent prince with a mighty domain on the 13th shard into something of a lap cat. A pale shade of one’s true origins, reduced to a ghost that needed to sneak into the night for their meals and trapse around as if they were of lesser kind.

It went against everything that Serphiantis was. His very nature was to cause untold destruction and wreak all sorts of havoc. As they always have throughout the history in which he had been summoned in the past. Terrifying catastrophe’s with his name on it.

Because of this weakness, hell’s save him, the voidsent had begun to… soften. Antagonistic and ever full of disdain all the same, but his horrific elements had been turned down by a large notch. He had to care about his pactmaker and protect her life for the sake of his own, though it would appear to any other that he was simply defending a weakling. Humiliating! But it was almost as if… as if they were acquiring some morals. Some tiny part of them that harbored a likeness for these people, or at the very least the one of royal blood.

Was it truly possible? To change a voidsent’s heart over time?

…

Hah!

The moment opportunity would arise, Serphiantis would pounce on the chance to make his vengeance known. To bring reason to fear his name once more. He’d entertain the show for as long as needed for the sake of survival.

But this voidsent’s goal was nothing short of tragedy and the downfall of the Nymians once and for all. And the one who had bound him to this pact would he savor for last to see the horrors in their eyes once their end was nigh. Forced to witness a most terrifying end no one would wish upon another to, see their kingdom fall to the ground.
