FFXIVWrite Day 16: Steel

Work Text:

Pipin Tarupin, a man decorated with many an honor and title to his name. Though he mainly fills the boots that is the role of Flame General, he is also known to be a Royalist and the Sultana’s chosen by her side, oft attending many an Alliance or Syndicate meeting to be adorned with ever more titles. He has inherited his father’s coliseum and holds the rights to it as its owner. During times of war when still under Raubahn’s banner, he served as head of tactical operations and helped with spy infiltration amongst the Garlean ranks. And a plethora of many other lesser titles he can’t immediately recall in comparison to all else.

So why does his epithet call him “Of the Steel Heart”? When nothing of Ul’dah or its culture would ever give reason to associate with steel over gold?

For that… lied in his troubled history before reaching this point. From the days of his youth where he was but a child working labor to survive. Only to be thrown into the wolves den as he was sold off by his own birth family for a sack of blood money where all bets were on that he wouldn’t last a year. Through all of his tribulations, he formed a steel heart. One which protected him in times of toiling and doubt in himself, where he had need to hold fast to his faith and push on come what may.

Even when luck would have him freed of this misery, life would only burden his shoulders with ever more pressing matters. There would be schooling for the days he never learned to even read or write until later years, having to become instructed into the decorum of a well-learned man for the position he would soon fine himself in, to throwing himself in mission after mission whether that be ruthless combat or protecting the Sultana from threats.

He had much and more to prove to the world that his lucky fate had been worth the while. Expectations were high and it was his responsibility to pay back all the goodwill that brought him this far. All the while hardening his heart for whatever hardships may lie in his future.
