Work Text:

Purple begrudgingly follows Orange through the store aisles. They hate shopping. Its so boring to them (real) BUT of course, they need to because their fridge looks less full than a collage mates fridge, plus Heracles ran out of food this morning and stares at them both like they've got murder on their mind and is a disappointed parent, which makes neither Orange or Purple feel good about themself, so they need food instantly.

Orange trails their finger over the boxes of cereal, they personally don't really like cereal, it's too sweet for them. But Purple likes just about everything sweet so it'll have to do. They stare at the rows of the unhealthy boxes. Absolutely none of them look appetizing to them. "What about that one?" Purple points out.

Orange looks to towards where Purple is staring at. Said cereal looks like it just crawled from a dentists dream. "What even is that??" Orange questions, which Purple shrugs in response to. "I dunno. I just like the mascot." Said mascot is a fat marshmallow with bulging eyes trying to look cute while eating more mini marshmallows. Orange thinks that a glob of mold is cuter than whatever the hell that mascot is. They physically have to bite their tongue to prevent themselves from calling it ugly as shit.

"If you really want it, then I guess.." They mumble. Purple grabs the box and drops it into the little grocerie basket they're holding. "What do we need now?" Purple asks while looking towards their very platonic roommate.

Orange reaches into their pants pocket, pulling out a small crumpled yellow paper. "Er... I think we only need fishfood next." "You think?" Purple questions, stepping closer to them to see the paper. Orange shrugs. "Your handwriting is kinda difficult to read." Orange mumbles. "Just say my handwriting is ass at this point." Purple rolls their eyes before grabbing the paper from their hands.

"Damn, I guess my hand writing is ass." They mumble, Orange snickers slightly. "What the hell does this even say?" They question, looking back to their roommate like they'd instantly know the answer. Orange only shrugs before grabbing the paper back and walking to the petmate aisle, Purple follows along soon after.

___

Purple shakes their hand, fingers becoming sore and slightly tinting red on their mid toned skin from the thin plastic grocery bag weighing down on their middle and index. Their old muddy boots splash in a shallow puddle beneath them, clumping more mud onto them as well as soaking the botton of their pants even more, contrasting the neat and mainly clean pair of regular everyday wear shoes walking beside them that (somehow) hasn't stepped in a single puddle nor gotten any water of themself or their clothes in general, besides slight mud on their hand from a prior event.

The soft pitter-patter of the rain hitting the umbrella being held is softly heard amongst the sounds of cars passing by. "My hand hurts." Purple groans, grip weakening on the umbrella being held above them and their partner, mainly above Orange. Orange looks towards their drenched and muddy roommate. "Purple, its been maybe ten minutes." Orange points out, which in return gets another groan along with almost non-stop complaints by the other.

"My hand still hurts." They mumble. "And back. And feet. And head." They add, shivering slightly as they trail off. "Plus im cold." They groan. "And covering in mud." Orange adds, which flusters their already embarrassed partner. "Oh shut up." They grumble, not much annoyance actually there. "Its not my fault you fell in mud, Purple!" They exclaim, laughing at the others embarrassed expression as they shyly grumble something about being bumped into.

They walk in silence for a moment after the laughter dies down, the only audible sound is the water hitting the ground and umbrella along with the splashing under Purples boots. Purple stares down at the water splashing at their feet. The earthy smell of rain drifts in the air, along with the orange scented fragrance from Orange that makes them feel embarrassingly warm inside.

"How much longer?" Purple asks, breaking the silence. Orange clicks their tongue, looking at their old watch that Purple onced owned. "Based on how long it took us-" "shut up and just tell me." Orange glances at their partner, who is staring at them with an annoyed expression. They go back to looking at their watch. "About 20 to 30 minutes if I had to guess." They slip their hand back into their warm jacket pocket.

"Wow. Must be nice to have a nice, dry, warm jacket to keep dry and comfortable in." Purple scoffs, looking away from them. "Oh, how I wish I had a warm jacket instead of a soaking wet t-shirt." They mutter, shirt sticking to their wet body, mainly arms and stomach. They tug slightly at the bottom of their shirt with the hand holding the bag, the feeling of the wet cloth sticking to them is uncomfortable to say the least.

Their complaints would've continued along with their walking, but both were cut short from a gentle yet firm grasp on their upper arms, along with the taste of chocolate lip balm tingling on their lips. They instantly feel themselves go sweaty and hot, having had very few of theses interactions in their life despite being at least in their early 30s. Orange pulls apart from them, still gentlely holding them in place. "We'll get there soon, Purple." Orange reasures them. They miss the feeling of their lips together. Purple knows that they're red as hell, they could imagine that Orange would feel similarly the same about themself but not look it, thanks to their darker skin tone making it harder to see.

Purple only groans in response. Orange slides their left hand down Purples arm, lingering on their hand before taking the bag and begins walking side by side with them once more, swinging the bag gleefully.

Throughout their walk back home, they switch between who's holding the bag, mainly because it starts to hurt after a while.

___

Purple can hardly set the bag on the counter before being tossed like a jacket onto the couch, climbed onto, and laid on. They shuffle, trying to get comfortable in their damp and muddy clothes and boots. They eventually sink into the couch as the other further nuzzles into their neck, like an animal trying to build a den for winter.

Orange suddenly pushes themselves off of Purple, now only sitting on their legs while Purple just stares in confusion. "Wait!" they exclaim, "take off your binder." They state matter of factly. "What??" Purple questions, confusion just about pumping through their pores. Orange jabs at Purples stomach, making them squirm slightly at the contact. "You've had it on for what? Ten hours?" They firmly but slightly gentlely put more pressure into their jabbing. "When you're only supposed to keep it on for eight. Eight!" They exclaim with annoyance, making Purple attempt to scramble for an excuse but ultimately fail and have no choice but to follow through with the demand. They wave them off, not wanting to take it off infront of them for personal reasons. Orange follows along with the request and walks off to their bedroom, presumably grabbing something.

Purple slides off their grossly damp t-shirt, getting stuck halfway through before ultimately dropping it into their also grossly more damp, almost considered wet, pants before slipping their binder off of their body with another slight struggle. They slip their grossly damp shirt back on and lay back on the couch with a groan.

Soon after, Orange appears, but with a shirt, that neither of them knows where it came from, and pajama pants. They drop it into their lap before walking back into their bedroom while Purple changes.

____

After about ten minutes, which they guess is the right amount of time, they walk out of the room and over to the couch. Purple coughs nervously as they tug their newly put on shirt, it being both very slightly too small and just being put on, not like Orange generally care anyways. They gently shove Purple into a laying position on the couch before crawling onto of them and returning to their prior position, only main difference, besides Purples change in outfits, being their hands being in a more kneading position and motion on Purples stomach, like a cat.

Purple yawns, they feel awfully tired despite the most productive thing they did today was get groceries and fall in mud. One of Oranges hand subconsciously drift to Purples side, tracing the burn scars from memory, Purple shivers at the action before wrapping one arm around Orange and basically falling asleep in a instant.

Orange glances up at the fishtank on the kitchen counter, the beautifully orange fishmate stares back, only with a look of slight disappointment. They question why, only to remember that Heracles always wants food like a piranhamate despite only being a merely fishmate from a festival. They giggle to themselves before pulling Purple closer, as much as they can at least. To much of their annoyance, it feels awfully hard to stay awake. They yawn as they drift to sleep. Heracles only watches the two before swimming off into their decorative home.
