Can you stay? Please.

Summary:

Somewhat of a post Riddler's Revenge (can't find episode number) Fix-It.

Notes:

I was actually sobbing rewatching this episode, when he started crying, I could not stand seeing him so sad. Also, like when they were in the storage container in the bottom of the bay and he just gave up trying to escape :((

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Ed hadn't been answering his phone for a while now and Oswald was starting to get worried that something had happened to him. He knew he had been planning something big, something about getting revenge, but he wouldn't tell him what that exactly entailed.

Eventually, he'd found out from some of his men that Ed had been seen in police custody, he headed over to the GCPD with some lackeys planning to break him out when they moved him to Arkham. The plan went off without a hitch, and he'd brought Ed back to their base, on the way he hadn't said a word, which was especially odd for him. Usually, he'd already be plotting his next scheme to get revenge on the bat for beating him, but no, he'd been hiding his face behind his hair, eyes glued to the floor.

Oswald had been watching him closely since they'd gotten home, clearly worried about him. They'd been sat on the sofa in silence for a while now. Ed had his legs held closely to his chest, his head resting between his knees, covered by his long hair.

"Are you going to tell me what's up with you then?" Oswald tried not to sound too worried, but it wasn't very effective.

Edward moved a little, sniffling. Slowly, Oswald shuffled a little closer to him, putting an arm around his back.

“Hey, it’s ok. You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. Just know I’m here if you want to.” Oswald spoke softly, moving his thumb back and forth against Ed's back.

Ed shifts, lowering his legs and turning to the side so he could hug Oswald, wrapping his arms tightly around him. Oswald pauses for a second before continuing to rub his back, hoping it would help to ground him.

“It’s alright, I’ve got you now.” He whispered as he kissed the top of his head. “You’re not hurt, are you?”

“…no” Edward mumbled into Oswald's chest, unable to mask the fact that he was lying.

“Edward. C'mon, you know you can’t lie to me. There are bruises all over your arms, tell me what happened so I can help you.”

“…my own bombs exploded on me; I got thrown into a metal storage container and slammed against the walls a bunch. It sunk to the bottom of the bay, and I nearly ran out of air and then, after I got out, had a big metal thing fall on by back.” Ed sounded angry as he listed everything, he still wasn’t ready to explain how any of it had happened yet.

“Oh Ed, let me get you some painkillers.” Oswald sounded heartbroken, kissing the top of his head again before trying to move Edward off him. He wouldn’t budge. “C'mon Eddie, you know I can’t pick you up.”

“…can you stay, just for a bit. Please.” Ed looked up at him, pouting. Finally letting Oswald see his face, the first thing he noticed was that his eyes were bloodshot from crying, his face still wet with tears. Oswald groaned, giving in to his demand.

“Fine, but only for a little bit.” He could never say no to that face.

Ed giggled as he snuggled up against Oswald's chest, claiming his victory.

“What am I going to do with you?” Oswald chuckled a little as he began stroking Ed's hair.

Before Oswald could even get the chance to suggest getting the painkillers again Ed had already fallen asleep, quietly snoring. Oswald didn’t have the heart to wake him up, so he accepted his fate of having to sleep on the sofa. At least he had managed to cheer Ed up a little, that was enough for him.

Notes:

I am tempted to write more fics of these guys specifically, cause they're my favourite designs of them and they're so cute. I might give them their own Martin (from Gotham) to adopt and look after.
Might make it y/n actually, I love familial y/n fics as someone who is aroace and has a shitty relationship with basically my whole family lol
