Chapter Text

Hermione lay naked in bed, the delicious weight of her boyfriend on top of her. She, Hermione Granger, was no longer a virgin. Her thighs burned but thoughts of this newfound step in their relationship made her feel giddy - a small laugh bubbling up and out of her before she could stop it.

Ron looked up from his spot on her chest. “What are you laughing at over there, smiley?” He asked, a smile of his own plastered on his face. With a raised ruddy brow he placed a kiss between her breasts.  They'd snuck away to Grimmauld Place after nearly being caught in Ron’s childhood bedroom.

Hermione stretched languorously and carded her fingers through his hair, the strands of auburn catching the dying sunlight turning it molten in her hands.

“Just thinking of how we’re going to have to find ways to sneak around now.”

Ron snorted. “There’s zero privacy at the Burrow.”

“Mum and Dad are busy reopening their practice,” she said, pulling him up to her lips; he tasted of mint and sweat and her. “We could spend days there when you're not training.”

“Harry's actually asked me to move in here,” Ron said, pulling her closer to his side.

“Both of you living at Grimmauld Place sounds like a disaster in the making.”

“Without you to keep us in line it will be.”

She snorted and hummed in agreement before dozing off in post-coital bliss.

Waking some time later alone in bed, Hermione heard Ron’s voice from the bathroom. Wrapping the sheet around herself she shuffled to the ensuite bathroom's door.

Her boyfriend stood in front of the enchanted mirror. His eyes were closed and he breathed in deeply and let out a slow exhale. His cheeks were flushed and blotchy as he opened his eyes so that the bright sapphire that she loved so much reflected back at him.

“Today is going to be the day,” Ron spoke to his reflection in the mirror.

“Well go on, tell me how you’ll do it?”

The voice made him jump and let out a groan at the sound of the mirror talking back to him.

He really needs to invest in buying a Muggle mirror, Hermione thought. At least they don’t make constant enquiries into your personal life.

“Nope,” he replied quickly, clearly not wanting to get involved in a conversation with the mirror.

“Why not? Oh, I see it’s because I’m a mirror, never thought I’d see the day when I was discriminated against for being made of glass.”

“Sod off with the dramatics.” He was now looking at the mirror with an expression on his face that was a mix of annoyance and anger. “The last time I told you a secret, you blurted it out to Fred later the same day when he barged into my room.”

“I did no such thing! That is a preposterous accusation.”

“Whatever, I’m not telling you anything so keep on wondering.” He rolled his shoulders and splashed water on his face.

“Perhaps this has something to do with a certain bushy haired witch?”

Ron halted and Hermione smiled - so it did have something to do with her. She didn't love the way the mirror commented on her hair but was secretly pleased that it was so obvious that she and Ron were happy and in love that even an enchanted mirror had noticed.

“Ahh, it is something to do with her! Well, well, well, I suppose it’s nothing to do with any of the rigorous activities that you’ve just partaken in? I can hear you know.”

“Oi! Would you let that go, we said we were sorry-”

“No amount of Scourgify spells was able to take away the essence of Weasley-”

“Granger-Weasley,” Ron muttered, the tips of his ears glowing red.

Hermione froze. Granger-Weasley. No, surely not? He wasn't thinking of…was he?

“You forgot the ring?”

He closed his eyes. “I didn’t say that.”

“Oh do you have a ring? And don’t even think about lying to my face! After all the things that I’ve seen and heard since you started using this bedroom for your…activities with that young lady?”

Hermione giggled, quickly covering her mouth with her hand before Ron heard her. She watched as he slowly rubbed his face. “You don’t have a face, you’re a mirror. A very annoying one at that,” he muttered under his breath. Hermione nodded silently in agreement.

“I think I’ll pretend that you called me the most beautiful mirror in existence, young man. Anyway, do tell me how you plan to drop to one knee. Which in my humble opinion should’ve happened before you dropped onto both knees when she wore her old Hogwarts uniform-”

“Bloody hell, shut up!” Ron said hotly, his ears turning red along with the back of his neck. Hermione giggled again behind her hand, she always loved it when Ron got flustered.

Did he have a ring? Hermione wondered to herself, moving away from the bathroom and sitting down on the bed again. She ran her hands through her curls with a quiet groan, then reached down for her discarded clothes, pulling her dress on quickly.

Merlin, she hoped that Ron wasn’t going to do something foolish like propose of all things. Despite everything they’d been through together, they were still far too young, only eighteen and still recovering from fighting in a war. She was returning to Hogwarts in the coming months, Ron was busy working with George and Auror training…no, as happy as they were, it just wasn’t the right time for a proposal. They needed to settle down into life as a couple before such life-changing events like that could happen.

“Mines, Mione?”

Hermione looked up as Ron walked out of the bathroom, dressed and smiling at her. “Hey? Are you alright?”

“Fine, great, perfect,” babbled Hermione, getting to her feet as he walked over to her, oh please Merlin don’t do it.

“Do you feel up to going out? I need to get a new mirror, one that’s…less chatty,” said Ron, annoyed as he glanced back to the bathroom, and Hermione felt relief flood her body. “This one has way too many ideas and opinions.”

“We’ll get a Muggle one, they don’t talk at all,” said Hermione, smiling up at him as she took his hand and pulled him towards the door.

Thank Merlin he didn’t propose.
