James took a long look at the clock in the corner of his computer screen before he let out a sigh.
He was the ONLY person still working.
In the entire office.
Just like he always was.
The rest of his colleagues were on an hour lunch break; but of course, his boss had found a way to keep him at this god-forsaken desk two hours longer than he needed to be.
or
James has a terrible boss and comes home stressed everyday.
Martin, his wife, decides to fix that.
Review & breakdown :
1. The workplace struggles
The story opens on James stuck at his desk long after everyone else has stepped out for lunch.
His manager, Mr. Jang, is the kind of boss who makes employees redo perfectly fine work just because he can.
James works until 11 PM almost every night, barely finds time to eat, and refuses to stand up for himself because of his naturally gentle and quiet nature.
He even hides how bad it is from his husband so Martin won't worry.
Seeing James endure all of that makes you root for him immediately.
2. Martin’s surprise arrival
Noticing how exhausted James has been coming home, Martin decides to take matters into his own hands and brings three entire packed lunchboxes to the office.
The reaction from the rest of the department is hilarious—everyone stops dead in their tracks.
Nobody even realized James was married, and the entire floor instantly descends into gossip and questions about how they met.
3. Standing up to the boss
When Mr. Jang walks over and tries to make an inappropriate comment toward Martin—assuming he can act superior—Martin doesn't back down for a second.
He completely puts Mr. Jang in his place in front of the entire office, calling out his arrogance and questioning his whole attitude.
Watching Mr. Jang get so thoroughly embarrassed that he quietly slips away without a word is easily the most satisfying moment of the story.
4. The sweet recovery
To calm Martin down after his outburst, James pulls him close, holding his hips and reassuring him right there in the middle of the office floor. It’s a wonderfully sweet, soft moment between the two of them that completely contrasts with the awkward silence of their watching coworkers.
Highlights :
Best Moment: Martin standing up to Mr. Jang and calling him out in front of the whole staff.
Dynamic: Soft, hardworking James paired with a fiercely protective Martin.
Overall Tone: Lighthearted, satisfying, and full of sweet domestic comfort.
Final Verdict :
A sweet , quick and satisfying read that handles the "protective partner defends their overworked spouse" concept perfectly. Definitely go check it out and leave the author some love!
Favorite line: " And why do you think I'd ever give you the chance to court me? Do you immediately assume every omega is in distress and in need of some 'big, strong alpha' to help them? Which, I may add, you aren't." - slay Martin
