Anyone order mech-soup?

Summary:

A familiar ghost appears at a Gala Sam is at in Gotham. It’s now her problem, apparently.

Luckily she brought a Fenton Thermos.

“Did we just get humbled by a sentient mech suit and a random teenage girl with a thermos?”

Notes:

Okay, my second ever DCxDP work, as I get back into the flow of writing. Yippee! I hope you enjoy Sam and her soup antics. Sorry if Skulker is out of character, I’m not fully familiar with him yet.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Sam Manson was unassuming, at first. A bored teenaged girl in the middle of a fancy Gala, looking like she wanted to be anywhere but there.

She went unnoticed by most at the Wayne Gala (yes, her parents brought her out all the way out to Gotham) except for those her mother and father had dragged her over to talk to, whom she wiggled away from as soon as she could, promptly forgotten about.

She more so wanted to spend her time admiring the room in which the gala was hosted in. She actually wished she had Danny’s invisibility and intangibility, at least for the day so she could go explore the rest of Wayne Manor without being noticed, but she would also prefer to not have an inter-dimensional portal open directly on top of her, so that was out of the question.

It was nice to get away from Amity park and the ghost attacks too, although she missed her town and best friends a lot. She still had a little while to stuck here though- the Mansons would be in Gotham for the next week. At least she could do some sightseeing, the gothic architecture was gorgeous.

She was in the middle of admiring a painting, looking over all the details, when a crash, followed by screaming, forced her to whip around.

And she was unpleasantly surprised to see a familiar ghost, one in a mech suit, attacking the gala.

Sam groaned. Of course there had to be a ghost here. And of course it had to be Skulker, too. So much for getting away from them, then.

Gotham's Vigilantes had already started on fighting the threat, but Sam knew their attacks would only go through the ghost. They didn’t have the tech required to fight him off successfully.

Batman was starting to realize that; Sam could see. His weird shriken-like weapons (Batarangs? Is that what they were called?) were phasing right through his target, embedding themselves in the wall.

She didn’t want to risk bringing attention to herself, or to Danny, but she couldn’t just let this happen. She could call Danny, but it would probably take quite some time for him to get there. Time that she didn’t have.

Sam grit her teeth, reached into her purse, and grabbed a Fenton Thermos, momentarily glad that she never removed it in case of emergencies.

Then, she ran out into a new yet all-too-familiar battle.

-

Batman was… confused, too say the least. And concerned.

A new Villain, someone none of them have ever seen, just randomly appeared at one of his alter-egos galas and just started wrecking havoc on everything.

And, to make things stranger, none of his attacks- of any of the vigilantes attacks- landed. They just phased right through the enemy, who was a floating mech-suit with laser guns and other weaponry, for some reason.

Batman dodged out of the way of what seemed to be a small missile, grunting.

“None of these attacks are landing,” he said into his communicator.

“Yeah, it’s really strange,” Red Robin replied. He had come back from trying to get the guests to safety, a feat that had been mostly accomplished.

Except…

“B, there’s a civilian running towards you!”

Batman briefly looked up beyond the way of the unknown villain, and indeed saw a person running towards him.

She was a girl in her mid to late teens, wearing a long black slip dress, holding a strange tube-like metal object in one hand. She didn’t seem afraid, if anything, her face screamed ‘I’m very fucking annoyed at this situation’. She stopped, tucking her hands behind her back, concealing whatever she was holding.

“Red Robin,” Batman commanded, “Try and get her to safety, I’ll try and keep our attackers attention off of-”

He was cut off by the girl, who had seemed to have a different idea. Her voice was snappy and agitated.

“Skulker.”

The villain- Skulker- whipped around to face her. Batman quickly moved so he could see the now-scowling face.

“Of course one of you pesky Team Phantom is here,” he growled.

Team Phantom. Batman filed the name away for later, focusing his attention back to the teen and the sentient mech-suit.

The girl sighed, rolling her eyes.

“What are you doing here, Skulker? I thought Phantom told you to stay in the Ghost Zone.”

Another person for Batman to look into later, then.

Skulker scoffed.

“As if I’d tell you. And I don’t answer to Phantom. I’ll have that welp’s pelt on my wall soon enough. It’s not like I want to be here, either! This place sucks! The traffic on the Garden State Parkway is horrendous!”

The girl pursed her lips, apparently amused at the idea of the giant mech suit driving on the Garden State Parkway.

“And Phantom will kick your ass soon enough.”

“Enough from you, welp!” Skulker shouted, aiming a strange blaster-like weapon from his suit. Batman tensed, preparing to push the teenage girl out of the way, but the girl hardly flinched.

Instead, she withdrew her hands from behind her back, revealing the cylindrical object she had concealed. A smirk painted itself upon her face, eyes narrowing in focus.

“To quote Phantom: Soup time.”

Skulker froze for a quick moment, and then whipped around to try and escape, but the girl was faster. She uncapped the object, and the villain was sucked straight into it. She quickly slapped the cap back on, trapping Skulker inside the object- apparently a thermos of some sort.

As Batman and the other vigilantes who had now entered the room stared in awe, the girl examined the thermos with a scrutinizing look, now seeming a bit confused, but gave up, seemingly knowing that a thermos simply could not give her the answers she wanted.

She used her free hand to brush her hair back into place, it having been messed up by the force of Skulker being sucked into the thermos, and brushed some nonexistent dust off of her dress.

It was after doing that that she looked up, noticing the bats, and blinked owlishly, suddenly seeming a bit sheepish.

Gotham’s vigilantes and the strange, thermos-welding, sentient mech-suit fighting girl held an impromptu staring contest for a few moments, before Red Robin spoke up.

“Did we just get humbled by a sentient mech suit and a random teenage girl with a thermos?”

The girl had the audacity to laugh at that.

Notes:

This is going to be a little series, kinda crack-ish if I’m gonna be honest. I just find the idea of Batman being humbled by a Sam and a thermos funny. Danny and his INSANE traumatic backstory will make an appearance soon enough, though.

Also, going into my theme of everyone hating New Jersey, because I think it’s hilarious as a New Jerseyan, I found the bit of Skulker driving on the Garden State Parkway intriguing. Could Skulker even fit in a car? Who knows. He would totally be pissed of at someone not using their blinker while merging lanes, though.
