The Goal is to Cure Death

Summary:

"'What happened to you, beautiful?' She asks sincerely. Dead silence. Literally.
She cleans up the blood and uses a bucket of the shower water to wash her hair. There were a few cuts here and there on her body from being thrown in a ditch, but nothing as extensive as the gash on her forehead. Originally, Satoru was going to test her brain switch or organ fix theories, but she was incredibly curious about this strange woman. She decided to cut in the perfectly straight scar and see if there is any remnant of the cause of the injury, such as glass, or something. Plus, that could easily lead her to switch the brain from one that is on the other trolley. She thinks, no, she knows it still has its conscience and she will gladly prove it. She takes her scalpel, and gently presses the blade against the woman's hairline where the scar is. Just as soon as the blade cuts through one layer of skin, the woman's eyes shoot open. She swats Satoru's hand away as she sits up..."

Chapter Text

Satoru wasn't absolutely pissed when she was fired from her job as a lead doctor at one of the most esteemed hospitals in Japan. She wasn't seething when the rookie doctor, Dr. Utahime, had reported her for "medical malpractice", when in reality, Satoru was just exploring her natural curiosity. She didn't wish death upon the Hospital administrator, Ieiri Shoko, a young but highly respected doctor, when she fired Satoru. All of that would be silly, right? Or at the very least, dramatic. What Satoru did was let her anger and rage filled thoughts flood her head for a mere moment. As a joke, she would say she had those thoughts for 0.2 seconds. She wasn't one to hold a grudge. She had too much pride for that. She moved on. Definitely. She moved on by doing one of her deepest passions. She was going to figure out the cure to death.

"Right about, here!" Satoru pulled over her car at the side of a road, right by a ditch. The area was known for being a popular body dumping site. Lord knows why theres not higher security on the road but whatever. It works out for Satoru. It was an incredibly dark night. The beautiful moon was full, yet covered by layers upon layers of wispy clouds, dulling most of the light from the moon. Stars were barely visible as well. Satoru shivered at the slight breeze. Her hair was in a pony tail. Her undercut and shoulder length hair weren't doing her any favors for the cold night. Luckily she had her lab coat on, as well as her long sleeved light blue button up and black slacks. Unfortunately, she was wearing black pumps, so her feet were freezing. She traversed through the ditch, in search of bodies to test on. One of her hypotheses was that she might be able to reverse any sort of natural organ failure and decay. That would require an older subject. Another idea was finding a way to put a brain within another body and get it to live. Satoru was smart, she knew she could have a breakthrough of sorts. Trying things others don't leads to success, one way or another. At least that's what she believes. After an hour or two of searching, she finds a body. It was a young woman. She had long flowing black hair, darker skin, larger breasts, large and defined muscles, and some noticeable body mods, such as gauges, an eyebrow piercing, and a belly button piercing. Satoru laughed at how strikingly opposite the woman looked compared to herself. Satoru was pale, white hair, strikingly blue eyes, a long and slender frame with barely defined muscles, and smaller breasts. Satoru picked up the woman as graciously as possible and slowly carried her to her car. Satoru noticed a scar going across the woman's head. The wound went into her hairline on the left side of her face and went across the forehead, ending just before the other side of the hairline. It had a ton of dried blood by it that also clotted in some of her hair. Satoru figured that that was the cause of death. It had been long enough for the wound to scar, which Satoru considered weird. She eventually got back to her car. She managed to open the back seat door open with her foot without falling and carefully put the woman onto the seat. She cushioned her head with a sweatshirt that had been in her car for emergencies and shut the door. Satoru entered the driver's side and turned on the engine. As she looked into the rear view mirror, she admired the woman's beauty one last time, before driving to her lab.

The lab was in one of those sketchy and old type places where the land lord basically ignores any and all sketchy activity. Her lab was an old public shower within the building. Years worth of mildew and mold grew there. She sterilized it best she could, but the bathroom remained to have that gritty look. The room was almost completely tiled, except for the very top of the walls and ceiling, which was concrete. All the piping, except for one shower, was outdated. It's most obvious when you notice how all faucets but that one shower have that long, slender, and frankly, hazard look. The fluorescent lights casted the whole room with a dull light, making the room look disgustingly green all the time. In short, the room was nasty and looked straight out of one of those Visual Kei music videos. Or maybe one of those films that use color heavy filters. Satoru wasn't much for decorating her work areas, especially ones where she never wanted to touch any part of it with her bare hands. The room had one curtain on wheels, two trollies, one containing her instruments, the other having a couple of testable body parts and organs, a large surgery light, and one metal stretcher. All of this barely took up half of the large room.

She rolled the metal stretcher out to her car and managed to get the strange woman out of her car discreetly and onto the stretcher. To get to the lab, Satoru pushed the beautiful woman through a garage, onto an elevator, and down a large hall full of storage rooms. The building had been a plethora of things with wildly different uses, but Satoru couldn't tell you a single one.
Once she got to her lab she turned on the surgery light for extra measure and positioned the body underneath it. She rolled the trolley with her scalpels to the body and got to work. First, she had to remove the clothes. She snipped off the band shirt with the words, "The gazzetE" on it with ease. The woman was wearing denim bellbottoms, making it only slightly more difficult, especially since she has to cut a bit more. The underwear and bra were incredibly easy to cut off. One note Satoru made was that the woman had recent bodily fluids within her underwear despite Satoru's initial conclusion she had been dead awhile. Satoru isn't one hundred percent sure of the time frame of the body releasing fluids and gasses, but she was pretty sure that with an assumed fatal wound healed to that scale it wasn't possible for a body to still be emitting bodily gasses and fluids. There possibly was a different wound near or on the pre existing scar that had bled. Maybe that wasn't even the reason she died, maybe there is evidence of poison within her? Satoru would have to check later. Once the woman was naked, Satoru drops the clothes and grabs a pure white fabric sheet to cover the woman.
"There," She said, "not as chilly, right?"
The body lays still. Not even the luscious hair flowing off the table moves an inch. The hum of the lights make it all the more unsettling. Damn, Satoru needs a different lab. One that doesn't give her the creeps.

Next, she has to clean any wounds. There are no large injuries other than the one on her forehead.
"What happened to you, beautiful?" She asks sincerely.
She swats Satoru's hand away as she sits up. Satoru backs up from the table, before immediately bumping into her trolley. Her high heels cause her to lose balance, her foot rolls and she lands on her ass. The lack of any form of mass on her body causes the fall on tile to be very painful. She groans before looking up at the woman, who had stood up whilst Satoru's tumble. Her eyes were so beautiful and were...Purple? No...Amber. Wait..

The woman held the sheet closed at her side, however much of it fell, revealing most of her left boob. The sheet bunched up near her feet, causing her to slowly step forward. Each step was wobbly and unsure. Eventually, she was right above Satoru, who was blushing immensely. The adrenaline of a body coming alive made Satoru forget how much she thought her lab was disgusting. When she remembered, she forced her sleeves down before using the cloth to not touch the floor while regaining her footing and standing up. Despite slightly towering over the woman, Satoru felt very small. The woman's eyes held her in place.
"So, you think I'm beautiful?" The woman lets a smirk tug at her lips. Satoru stammers slightly before regaining her usual demeanor.
"You heard that? Guess you weren't dead at all!" She let out a small giggle. Then she realized. Did she even check the pulse? She didn't, she carried the body for ten minutes back to her car, she would've noticed any sort of heart beat, she never even saw or felt the woman's chest move! Many thoughts reeled through her mind before the woman flicked Satoru in the head, stunning her a little.
"Hey, blue eyes, get back in the moment." The woman's brow was furrowed and her eyes squinted at Satoru. She crossed her arms just beneath her chest.
"Listen, I know what you're thinking." Satoru sighed with relief, at least the talking corpse understood that the situation was strange.
"You don't know my name, I'm Suguru Geto!" She closed her eyes as she smiled. Satoru tried not to let out an exasperated sigh. Never mind. Maybe the woman had no idea what her state was. Satoru looked Suguru in the eyes as she opened them. They were a weird mix of an unnatural purple color with amber near the pupil.
"I'm Satoru Gojo."

Suguru and Satoru talked. They talked while sitting on the stretcher for a long while. Apparently, Suguru has no memory of her life other than her name and basic personality. When Satoru showed Suguru the band shirt she wore in the ditch, she had no recollection of the band at all. Eventually, Satoru struck up more casual conversation once she fully grasped that no useful information would come from Suguru. It was pretty hard talking to someone with no memory in a casual manner though. The woman had personality and was very expressive, but knowing that the woman has no memories creeped Satoru out a little. Satoru was talking about her being from a family of doctors before realizing Suguru was curiously looking around the lab.
"What, is this place?" She asks. She turns to Satoru, immediately putting her spell upon her again.
"It's my lab, I rent it out from some sketchy landlord. It's great for what it does, no matter how mangy and gross it is. I don't have an official one 'cause I lost my job at a real hospital. Can you believe that some rookie bitch-?" Satoru cuts herself off when she notices Suguru looking at her with one brow raised.

"You just love to hear yourself talk, don't you?" She stands up as she starts walking around, this time not struggling as much. Satoru lets out a small laugh. She has been talking a lot about herself. To be fair, Suguru really couldn't talk about herself.
"Of course I do!" She watches as Suguru laughs and shakes her head to her response. No one had ever had a positive reaction to Satoru's annoying traits. Oh, she was gonna enjoy spending time with this woman. Satoru would be willing to bet they'll be instant best friends. Based on a somewhat casual first conversation, they seemed to have somewhat similar personalities. Satoru watched as Suguru fixed her hair in the reflection of a small puddle of water. A puddle near the working shower that hadn't gone down the large floor drain. She fixed all of her hair towards the back except one clump of hair in the front. Some stray hairs fell towards her face, but most of the hair was behind her shoulders or behind her ears. She turned around, happier with herself. Satoru didn't understand why she had to get up just to give herself weird bangs. Neither did she understand how the woman seemed happier afterwards.
"What was that about?" Satoru questions. She stares as Suguru somehow walks gracefully back to the stretcher. Suguru waits to sit down.
"It's impulsive, it feels right to do." Suguru sits. There's a strangely comfortable silence between them. Usually there's some sort of awkward stage, but not now. Satoru considered it very strange. For all she knows though, Suguru could be being driven insane by how awkward she thinks it is.

"How long are you going to let me be in a cold shower room with no clothes?" Satoru looks at Suguru, then processes what she said.

"Oh, shit!" Satoru then scrambles to look for her overnight bag or her just in case clothes. Suguru has an amused look plastered on her face. Suguru starts laughing a little too much watching Satoru run all over the place apparently searching for clothes. She ends up giving Suguru black skinny jeans with a light blue polo, plus socks. Satoru doesn't have extra shoes.

Satoru had to bring the woman home. She couldn't go through her procedure knowing the woman was alive. At least, that's what she told herself. Being able to enjoy someone's company even a little bit after such a short amount of time is basically a blessing. Especially since so many people call her annoying. Growing up in a family of well renowned doctors, she must keep up the reputation. She decided to use her privilege to her advantage and get what she wanted. What she wanted was to prioritize the kids in need rather than some old rich guy who was used to buying his way out of bad situations. Her reason for being fired was comparing the organs of a healthy donated organ compared to that of an old wealthy man who was upon death's door. She needed to know the exact differences and similarities of a healthy organ compared to a decaying organ. Obviously, it's known what the differences are, however Satoru must have a constant reminder of what they are to help naturally decaying organs.

"What a fancy place you have," Suguru observed. They entered Satorus' apartment. It was incredibly expensive since it was in the downtown part of the city. It was very spacious for an apartment. Despite no longer having an actual job, the money from her inheritance was more than enough for one person.

"Jealous?" Satoru turns on the overhead light before throwing her bag that contained her lab coat onto the sofa before crashing right beside it. Suguru hesitated before sitting right beside Satoru. Satoru unbuttoned the top three buttons of her shirt before reaching behind her back to unclip her bra. She threw it across the room, near where her bedroom was.
"I've got nothing to compare it to, so I'm not sure." Suguru started messing with the stray hairs that wouldn't get out of her face. "Do you have a hair tie?" Satoru rolled her sleeves up to unveil a hair tie on her wrist. She takes it off and hands it to Suguru. She takes the hair tie and puts her hair in a half up half down style. Satoru is surprised as Suguru manages to have no strays and bumps despite not having a bump while it seems to be perfectly centered.

"How the hell did you do that?" Satoru shoves her face into Sugurus as she looks around her head. She even latches her hand on the top and chin of Suguru's head to turn her head to see any imperfections.
"I'm just that go-" Suguru interrupts herself by grunting, swatting away Satorus hands and even grabbing Satorus head and shaking it. Satoru giggles a little before thrashing her head out of Suguru's grip. Suguru glares at Satoru before melting into the couch. They both sat in silence for a while as Satoru contemplated falling asleep immediately on the couch with the consequences of an aching body or having to actually prepare for bed in her bedroom. She eventually gathered enough motivation to go to bed and stood up. She looked over at Suguru, who had fallen asleep. She admired Suguru's beautiful face one last time for the night before grabbing a blanket and throwing over Suguru. She turned in for the night right afterwards.

She needs to look up missing person reports tomorrow. Someone must know Suguru, right?
