Chapter Text
It’s a sun filled August morning. The warmth of the sun shone through Aphmau’s window as she wakes up to her first day of Phoenix Drop Highschool. Aphmau is a freshman; she was home schooled for all of 8th grade. It’s her first time being in a real school in a long time and she’s ready for high school, even though she’s scared.
Aaron’s a senior in high school. He just came back from the military academy and then transferred to Phoenix Drop High.
Aphmau arrives at school. Her mom drops her off in front. The towering high school intimidates her. She walks up the steps, trembling.
“First day of school! Haa… I can’t do this!” she wails. Aphmau takes a deep breath, reminding herself to stay calm and just be herself.
“I should take a selfie!” She quickly pulled out her phone and took a picture. As soon as she took the photo a guy with black hair and midnight black eyes bumped into her.
“O-oh! I’m so sorry!”
The guy rolls his eyes and walks away. Aphmau brushes it off and resumes going up the steps. She looks down at her phone for a second to look at the photo. The photo was just as she expected, but the guy she had bumped into was in the background, noticeably upset. Just as she was going to delete the photo she bumped into someone else. She looked up to see a handsome blonde boy. He had bright blue eyes that were really comforting, and made her feel a sense of safety.
“Oh my! Are you okay?” he said in a soft voice. Oh my Irene! He’s so handsome! And his voice is so… soothing. Aphmau thought.
“I-I’m fine, thanks. Heh…” Aphmau gets lost in his eyes. The blonde smirks at her reaction to his charm. He often did have that effect on girls. It seemed this one’s no different. He’s still holding her in his arms. Aphmau’s face turns a light pink.
“You know, that skirt looks really good on you…” he pauses waiting for her name.
“I-it’s Aphmau! Yours is…? H-huh? Wait, did you just…?” she trails off. He smiles showing his perfect teeth.
“Garroth Ro’Meave. Pleasure to meet you, beautiful.”
Aphmau almost faints at his words. He laughs and finally let’s go. This.. more than ideal situation sparks a conversation between them, leaving them chatting for all the time until the two must head over to homeroom.
Aaron finally reaches the school, his stride long and his head down. He suddenly feels someone with a small build against his chest. He looks up to see a shorter girl. His eyes quickly scanned over the tiny form, raven hair, and caramel colored eyes. He deemed her unworthy of his attention, earning her an eye roll. He simply continues on his original plan to stand in the corner. Alone.
After a very… “eventful” homeroom class, Aaron takes his schedule out from his bag. It says that period 1 is in room 303. He slowly makes his way to the class, having no sense of urgency. Though 10 minutes late, he finally made it. The class plaque says WWF 101. Took a step inside and…
“What the hell…?”
His eyes narrowed, brow furrowing. He was in the werewolf class. The class was a mess. Broken glass decorated the floors while scratch marks adorned the walls. All the students are loud and clearly show no care for the black-haired boy who just walked in.
“Ah! Mr. Lycan, welcome to werewolf class!” said the teacher. Aaron barely even heard the teacher over all the noise. He’s not even sure if he did.
“Aaron, go and sit in the back over there,” the teacher somehow called over all the loud speaking. He made his way over to a seat in the very back, slumping into his seat.
Just then a small figure enters the room. Her long raven hair was put up in a ponytail with a purple bow and her eyes a caramel color. Aaron recognized her immediately. This is the same girl he’d decided was unworthy of his attention a couple hours ago.
“What the-! This has to be the wrong class right?!” the girl gasped.
“Well, what’s your name?” the teacher asked.
“Umm… It’s Aphmau,” Aphmau replied. The teacher looked at the rolesheet for a second before looking up to speak.
“Hmm… Yep, you’re in the right class,” said the teacher.
“There’s no way! I’m not a werewolf!” the girl whose name is Aphmau protested. The teacher seemed unamused by her denial. How’d she get in the class then?
“Miss Aphmau, go take a seat next to Aaron over there,” said the teacher flatly while pointing over to the seat next to Aaron’s. Aphmau began to make her way over to the seat. Just as she was about to sit down some guy whispered shamelessly,
“Woah, she’s got a nice ass.”
He was staring at her now. Aphmau didn’t seem to notice, but Aaron did.
“The hell’d you just say?” Aaron’s voice was dangerously calm, but his eyes weren’t. They carried a type of intensity that could actually kill someone with his sharp gaze. Aphmau spun around, her confused eyes landing on the pervert.
“I said that the girl has a nice ass. Got a problem with it?”
“Yeah, I do actually.”
“Hey-!” Aphmau was immediately cut off by the two boys. They went on to do what can only be described as aggressive bickering. After about 30 seconds, Aphmau finally spoke up
“Stop! Both of you! This is ridiculous! Just be quiet and mind your business!” Aphmau scolded. The two instantly shut up and sat down. She let out an annoyed sigh before finally taking a seat.
“Hey! Settle down class. Everyone to their seats,” the teacher yelled trying to drown out the noise of everyone talking. The two boys glared daggers at each other until they ultimately couldn’t, needing to divert their attention back to the teacher
“Hey!” Aphmau whisper-yelled, “I could’ve taken care of that myself! You made me seem incapable of defending myself!”
“What the-! I just helped you. Why are you so mad at me?” Aaron sputtered. “What if I didn’t need help? Huh? Ever thought about that?!” Aphmau snapped, rolling her eyes. She had a short temper; got mad easily.
“Well it sure looked like you wanted help, you should’ve seen the look on your face,” Aaron scoffed.
“I didn’t need help, I could've dealt with this myself!” Aphmau raised her voice a little, making the teacher look over in their direction. They stayed quiet until he looked back to the board.
“Fine. The next time that dick over there says something, deal with it yourself,” Aaron muttered, ending the conversation.
Aphmau huffed while crossing her arms, turning away.
Over the course of time, the two absolutely hated each other. Though… there was always an underlying tension. Every brush of the shoulder lingered. Every glare had this hidden intensity that no one noticed but themselves. Even though on the outside all they ever said about each other were snarky comments, on the inside there was this growing passion to be rivals. Like they wanted to bump into one another and start an argument. Like they needed bump shoulders in the hallway.
Everything was always intentional.
