Work Text:
“Remember everything will be alright.
We can meet again somewhere,
Somewhere far away from here.”
Our eyes meet, and for a moment, I indulge myself: maybe a drink after work, or a Sunday morning stroll, green leaves above us aglow in golden sunlight.
But the apocalypse is coming: war, famine, pestilence, and death. I'll pay for my sins in a frigid solitary jail cell, and God willing, my suffering will secure the world’s salvation.
There is no camaraderie in the garden of Gethsemane.
We don’t talk enough,
We should open up
Before it’s all too much.
“And that is enough.”
