Summary
A funeral brings people who were once friends back together to the place they met: Emmeline Vance's family restaurant, the Lucky Seven. The restaurant is known not just for dim sum, but for serving people the luck they deserve.
Ten years ago, Remus Lupin walked away from his job at the Lucky Seven, and the "thing" he and Sirius might or might not have been in. Since then, he's learned that he is an idiot, and that the things he'd been taught were his misfortune—being a scratched-up, gay werewolf—aren't ruinous if he doesn't let them be.
Now, Remus is hoping for one last stroke of luck. He wants to have an adult conversation with Sirius. Perhaps apologise. Maybe, if they get lucky tonight, they'd find a way to be around each other again without the room turning several degrees cooler?
The Lucky Seven has other better/meddlesome/brilliant ideas, including one tiny bed, no fucking space and providing the fuel for yearning: sticky foods that need to be licked off.
In parallel, this is also a story about immigrant mothers and their daughters, expectations and guilt. And it’s about how to take pride in a clashing constellation of marginalised identities.
