Work Text:

Knife and Suitcase were not the type of people that enjoyed company as they slept. They both always liked the silence and peace of getting to be on their own at night, but…both wished it was a little less lonely when trying to sleep; maybe Suitcase wouldn’t need to deal with her nightmares and Insomnia while stirring and shifting in bed, and maybe Knife wouldn’t have to be embarrassed of holding the Dora doll to his chest every night while trying to get some sleep.

That is why it was so new for both when they kinda slept together at Suitcase’s room in the hotel. After season two was starting to approach to an end, with Knife and Suitcase as finalists, Knife and Suitcase got to become so much closer than ever, getting to the point of dating (long story short).

Another one of the reasons why both liked to sleep alone (mostly), was because it was way too hot inside the hotel rooms to even bear to cuddle for too long with someone, especially in the summer time. Knife liked his space to stretch and turn in his sleep, and Suitcase also liked her space to shift and be able to get up to drink water in the middle of the night.

However, for some reason, today was different for both. They couldn’t even get a shut eye, both were shifting and turning on their side of bed. But they wouldn’t say anything to each other, until Knife was getting more worked up after he saw the alarm clock by the lamp on the nightstand: 2:00 AM, they had been laying in bed since 10, 4 hours just uselessly shifting and laying there knowing neither of them could even close their eyes for more than 10 minutes before opening them again.

Knife groaned, turning slightly to his right side to whisper silently in the black

“Hey, Suitcase…You’re awake right?”

Suitcase took about two seconds to respond. “Mhm.” She hummed with a small grunt as she turned to her left to face him back.

They both stared at each other in the dark for a few seconds, before Suitcase sat up with a groan and rubbed her baggy eyes, already frustrated by the lack of sleep. Knife grumbled and pulled on her wrist to make her lay back down again.

“Hey, c’mon it's okay…just- lets just try alright?”. He tugged more.

Suitcase grumbled and laid back down on her back against the pillows. Suitcase ended up closer to Knife than before, laying just a few inches beside him. Knife reached for her hand and rubbed her knuckles in small, gentle circles. Suitcase closed her hand around his to hold it back; she instantly felt the cold feeling of his skin transferring onto her own, warm hands,

“hm…You’re cold…” Suitcase mumbled quietly, reaching to rub his cold palm with both of hers.

Knife instinctively looked off to the side, too flustered to look back at her eyes. Despite them both dating a decent amount of time, Knife still got too embarrassed and flustered at simple displays of affection from Suitcase, even when it was just hand holding. It was a bit dumb, yes, but gee, who could resist such nice, kind, pretty, lovely, brav–

“Knife.” Suitcase’s voice called to his attention, breaking his drifting thoughts. Knife snapped his head back to face her. He cleared his throat and reached to wrap his free hand with hers. He liked the feeling of Suitcase’s warm, gentle hands enveloping his cold and rough ones– It was nice.

Again, this might sound ridiculous, but it made him feel…safe? Cared for? comforted? Agh, it was stupid, not something he would admit to her out loud, even when he knew she might already be aware of the soft spot he only ever could show when they were alone like this; in the dark, silent and tender night inside her room. or well, their room, because Knife was spending way too many nights in there by now.

Suitcase shifted closer to Knife, softly leaning for an embrace. However, when she fully got to press against his body, she was met with an almost ice-cold body. She shivered and winced. “Ah…seriously, how are you this cold? It’s barely even summer and we don't have the AC on.” Suitcase started rubbing up and down his arms to warm them up.

Knife spit out a flustered snicker, along with a small shrug. “Maybe ‘cause you’ve been leaving me all lonely all night..” He joked dramatically. Suitcase cflet out a small laugh and nudged his shoulder “oh, don't go guilt-tripping me now, mister!” She chuckled.

Gosh, not that laugh again, Knife’s poor little jerk heart couldn’t bear it, the soft vibrations of her voice, so so close to him made his heart flutter and joints go weak. He felt like a giddy teenager with a crush, a crush on the loveliest girl in the world, that’s for sure.

Knife brushed off his flusteredness with a small chuckle as he, in an affectionate urge, playfully pulled her into a crushing, tight hug. Suitcase yelped in surprised as her arms, almost by instinct, wrapped around him back. She laughed even more, a sound Knife couldn’t resist, a sound that made him crackle in laughs and small giggles. He pushed her head against his chest and playfully shushed her.

“C’mon now! You know the walls are thin…youre waking someone up!” He joked between laughs as they both shifted and squirmed against the other lovingly.

The tense and restless silence of the night had turned into a sweet, slightly loud and warm atmosphere in the hotel room and the shared bed. Both Suitcase and Knife were bantering and jokingly shushing the other in the middle of their uncontained giggles and the soft creaking of the mattress underneath them.

The small giggles and shoves turned into nuzzles, and then those nuzzles turned into small pecks and kisses on each other’s face and neck.

Knife peppered her face with small kisses and a couple nips on the cheek, all while his hands caressed up and down her torso under the covers. Suitcase was nuzzling him and softly meeting his own lips a couple times to give the tiny kisses back. Slowly, their laughs softly faded into mushy tiny giggles in their cuddle ball. They had both been way too busy kissing the other to even banter anymore. The pecks and nips slowly turned into slow, gentle kisses on the lips. Each kiss was brief, about a couple seconds long before either of them pulled away to take a small breath, but just to lean in right back like magnets.

There was almost no space between them now, completely attached and tangled to the other.

Knife was threading his fingers through Suitcase’s knotted locks of hair as they kissed, pulling her closer with each touch of their lips. Kiss after kiss, Suitcase pulled away to take a small breath, she hummed in content and nuzzled Knife’s neck.

Suitcase’s eyelids started heavier by the minute, her body had seemed to finally get comfortable enough to be drowsy. Muscles started getting softer, Knife’s arms warmer, and the pillow seemed to swallow up her head already.

Knife noticed Suitcase’s eyes fluttering. He smiled and twirled one of her strands. ”G’night, case” He mumbled

Suitcase planted a kiss on his cheek before she completely drifted off. “Mmm…night.” She mumbled back

With that, Suitcase finally dozed off under the warm and gentle covers of the bed, the comfiest she’s ever been in weeks, days. While Knife..well somehow he still couldn’t sleep.

He stared up at the ceiling for a few minutes. He couldn’t move, he did not want to move, I mean, Suitcase was finally getting a nice sleep, and he didn't wanna be a bother. Still, Knife decided to murmur in the middle of the silent night and the absent tick of the clock hanging on the wall;

“I love you, case.”

Suitcase didn’t answer, she just shifted a bit on her sleep with a small grunt, and a bit of a comfortable smile at the end. That was more than enough for Knife.
