The water rises faster than Buck can think.
It taunts them as he splashes through it, trying to leverage himself into different spaces around the beam. Together they push and pull at it. Together they wear out every aching muscle in their body and ignore every deeper twinge because if they stop, if they admit defeat—

But the water rises anyways.
The water rises and Eddie’s resolve diminishes with every inch closer it gets.
