Summary
Doc remembers exactly how it started.
Sitting in that small medical room, the sound of the landline ringing so insistently along with the tapping of little feet, Tomas Mate's feet moving because they could not reach the floor. Waiting for the adult to finish and give him one of those little candies that seemed untouchable on the table in the corner.
He remembers perfectly how he picked up the phone from the desk and placed it between his shoulder and his ear, only to hear the faint gasp mixed with a resigned sigh.
—Doc, I don't know what you've done, but something here is waiting for you.
The old Sheriff's voice and the biggest change of his life. He remembers the weight of the little one in his arms, just like now.
