Why does it bother him so much? Why does seeing his best friend with someone else make him feel so irritable, as if Michael was personally doing something to provoke him?
Jamal rubs a hand over his face, and thinks it must be jealousy. He is jealous of Michael because Michael seems to have everything figured out. He’s older, more experienced, and has his shit figured out. All of their friends are around Michael’s age, and Michael was the one who introduced Jamal to half of them in the first place. Jamal has spent years following him around, trying and failing to catch up.
