Work Text:
Ever since C.C had abandoned him, Mao had to live by himself among society, which was just a pain, with his geass and all. Unfortunately, he had run out of food, or barely had enough for a meal. Mao knew exactly what that meant.
Just to double check, he searched once more just to be completely sure, only to find nothing. He truly needed to go out to purchase more food.
He sighed as he grabbed his headphones, before placing them on. After that, the white haired boy went out the door, and on his way to a nearby grocery store.

Once Mao finally arrived to a local grocery store, the thoughts were blasting all at once. This was the worst part of his geass. The constant thoughts intertwining with another, and overlapping.
It never stopped, not once.
Because his geass unfortunately didn't have an off switch.
He reluctantly grabbed a shopping cart and got to work, neglecting the excessive thoughts the best he could.
As he grabbed some things off the shelves and into the shopping cart, he noticed how packed it was today, perfect..
Mao could've picked any other day, but he had to pick this one. Before he could put another thing in the cart, he placed a shaky hand to his headphones, playing an old recording of C.C comforting him. A long time ago when she used to do that.
Before she left him behind. She was his whole world
This made the situation a little better, letting him be able to grab the last thing off the list.
Thankfully, this errand was coming to a close, as Mao just needed pay and leave. Pay.. ...
Mao just realized, he didn't bring any money, and honestly even if he did, could he pay for all of this?
He had two options, return all of this food and starve tonight, or ... make a run for it while carrying everything without any grocery bags.
As he thought this through, he made his choice. The white haired boy grabbed all his food he didn't pay for in his arms, and bolted out of the store, which unfortunately caught a cashiers attention.
"..Security!!!" One of them yelled into their mic, knowing they needed backup.
Even if Mao dropped something, he had more than he needed to survive for at least tonight. He was running down the parking lot, hoping nobody was behind.
This damn shoplifter..
He heard behind him with his geass. He knew he didn't need to look behind him now.
Eventually the two people chasing him slowed down, letting him successfully escape with all his unpaid groceries.
