Work Text:
There is a difference between a god and a deity.
A god is, in essence, an entity that is worshipped, and then gains strength from that worship.
Therefore anything can become a god in some way.
Whereas a deity is all powerful.
A deity cannot be touched, cannot be comprehended by those beneath them, and can bend them to their will.
The Absolute Being was a deity.
He created so many things, twisted them into an eternal battle for his own amusement, sitting almost perfectly still on his throne as one half worshipped him and the other sought to tear him down, enjoying their blood, their pain, their strife, their success, experiencing all of it all at once in all its glory.
And his children became some sort of gods.
The Rulers were created as beings unable to change. Their godhood came from the singular practice of one skill, one understanding, one ideology, honed to perfection.
The Monarchs were created to be the opposite of that. They were beings of great change and mutability. They used strength and fear and connection to gather creatures around them and earn their godhood.
And one in particular seemed to understand their nature best, turning that adaptability into the skill of forcing change, the Monarch of Transformation, as he called himself.
The Absolute Being watched as the war spiralled out larger and larger, creating and destroying gods and beasts and mortals alike with glee that none of his creations could ever see.
The Absolute Being believed himself to be a deity until the very moment his pet gods spears pierced his very essence.
Because they knew he was nothing more than a cruel god of creation.
