Notes:

Welcome! This is my very first fanfic. Please keep in mind that this is an alternate divergence from canon, so events won't align 1:1 with the show. There might be a few plot holes along the way, but I’m doing my best to minimize them and keep the story engaging. Also, it's not recommended for Marinette stans.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Prologue - Psychonette’s Origin

Chapter Text

Marinette’s plan to expose Lila’s true colors to the class was really supposed to work, but it ended up backfiring so horribly that Marinette permanently lost all credibility and trust with her class, her parents, and even Adrien.

How did Lila know that the newly built restroom was actually a trap to expose her? Did somebody leak the plan to Lila? It doesn’t matter anymore because nobody now believes in Marinette, the class’s everyday ladybug who always did all kinds of errands no matter what for her selfish class, only to be a huge waste of Marinette’s time and efforts. Marinette Dupain-Cheng's downfall is only beginning.

Psycho-Day 1

“May I go to the restroom w-with Chloe? I-I’ve been feeling anxious lately since that day — M-Marinette cornered me there over a m-misunderstanding… Miss Bustier, pretty please?” Lila spoke in a sweet and afraid tone that easily makes anybody feel very protective of Lila, as Lila gave a sly side glare with a cruel smirk at Marinette that no one except her would notice.

Marinette angrily gripped her hand on the edge of the table against her chest and muttered that Lila was the biggest liar in a low voice.

Marinette’s thought:

Fucking pathological lying bitch… Just watch… You will lose everything you had been building since day one… Soon… Then I, Ladybug, the hero of Paris, will beat the fuck out of you when you get akumatized if that happens! Finally, my Adrien will be truly mine, and no more bitches trying to lure him away from my dear embrace!

“Oh, Lila! Of course, you can go with Chloe — just don’t take forever, sweetie.” Miss Bustier kindly wave-signaled Chloe and Lila while giving a hateful scan at Marinette. Marinette recoiled in a mixture of disgust and anger, then turned her desperate eyes to Alya, who was once her ride-or-die best friend that she used to confide in all the time until a few weeks ago due to Lie-la, and aggressively whispered, “Did you really not see —?”

“Do not talk to me, please.” Alya sternly cut Marinette off, her head coldly turned in the opposite direction from Marinette. Alya fell for Lila’s lies so effortlessly without at least fact-checking them, which was very hypocritical of her, for a teenager’s dream is to be the greatest reporter, only seeking the truth to speak out. Marinette grunted with a mixture of annoyance and frustration as her hands were clenched into fists.

Nino was comforting his stressed girlfriend, telling her she did not need to stress over Marinette all the time because she had the whole class, especially Lila, who was also here for her. Adrien was just sitting there and awkwardly feeling all that tension in the air. Adrien just wanted to go home already, which was ironic for the boy who grew up dreaming of attending the high school.

Alya’s thought:

I don’t know what the hell is with Marinette lately… She is getting crazier and more hateful here since the day Lila made a move on Adrien. Lila even apologized to Marinette about that situation and promised she would not try with Adrien anymore. Marinette really needs to seek professional help…

As Lila and Chloe got up and walked out of the class, Chloe gave Sabrina eyes that acted as the signal: “Come to the new restroom, or my mayor daddy will get your useless daddy fired.” Sabrina anxiously gasped and put her shaking hand up for Miss Bustier to give attention to.

“M-may I-I go to the r-restroom as well, Miss Bustier? It’s m-my time o-of the m-month...” Sabrina stuttered under the great stress, really hoping that Marinette’s plan would really work so that she would not get bullied or threatened anymore. Miss Bustier casually excused Sabrina to the restroom, while Marinette mentally giggled at the fantasy in her head where she brought the whole class herself to see how Lila and Chloe treated Sabrina so cruelly.

Not that Marinette cares about Sabrina anyway.

Marinette’s thought:

Perfect, Lie-la and Bitchy Chloe are so gonna fall into my trap very soon! Especially Lie-la is about to be finally exposed really badly, to the point that nobody believes that fucking pathological liar anymore, as it should! Now, it is my time to shine!

Meanwhile, Lila was washing her hands while Chloe was putting some touch-ups on her luxury makeup in the restroom just a moment before Sabrina entered. Lila could not help but feel suspicious because she caught a glimpse of Marinette’s crazy eyes before Lila was out of the classroom; well, Marinette got crazy eyes, but they were CRAZIER than usual, as if she was waiting for something to happen.

“Why must you be utterly slow-ass, Sabrina! You know we do NOT like to wait for some worthless bit—!” Chloe’s cruel ranting at Sabrina, shortly after Sabrina entered the restroom, was instantly stopped by Lila. “Please be quiet, Chloe. My instinct is telling me something is off about this new restroom, so let’s not talk our business out here for now.” Lila whispered in a cautiously low voice to Chloe’s ear, giving Sabrina an evil eye to make her whole body shake badly in fear.

Inside Marinette’s purse, Tikki pressed her tiny hands against the fabric, her voice out a desperate, muffled whisper. “Marinette, please stop! I have a terrible feeling about this. There are too many variables you can’t control — if Lila realizes what you’ve done, it’s going to backfire!” But Marinette barely heard her over the rushing blood in her red ears.

Driven by absolute certainty, Marinette ignored her kwami's plea, snapped her purse shut, and abruptly stood up in the middle of the quiet lesson. The harsh screech of her chair legs against the floor cut through Miss Bustier’s lecture.

The classroom instantly froze, the heavy silence broken only by the hum of the overhead lights and the distant sound of traffic outside. Miss Bustier irritably stopped mid-sentence at the chalkboard, chalk suspended in the air, her eyes narrowing as a collective groan rippled through the classmates. They were exhausted, frustrated, and thoroughly fed up with Marinette’s constant disruptions.

“We don’t have time for this silly act of yours, Marinette.” Miss Bustier said, her tone laced with venomous warning as she set the chalk down with a loud click. “Please sit down, young lady.”

“P-Please listen to me just this time!” Marinette’s voice cracked, high-pitched and breathless, her hands trembling against the top of her desk. “I know Lila and Chloe are bullying Sabrina right now! We cannot wait anymore!”

Marinette looked around at the cold, hostile faces of her classmates, desperation eroding at her chest. “I even had the opaque glass of that new restroom replaced with one-way glass so you could all see Lie-la — I mean, Lila’s true colors! We have to go now!”

A shock fell over the room before exploding into pure outrage. Alya furiously surged out of her seat, her chair clattering against the floor, face flushed with disbelief. “What the fuck are you on?!” Alya shouted, her voice echoing off the high ceiling. “That’s fucking insane and perverted, Marinette! Who knows how long that one-way glass has been there — I can’t believe I ever saw you as my best friend at some point!”

Marinette’s vision blurred with crimson rage. “TRUST ME, JUST THIS TIME!” she screamed, the raw force of her voice ringing through the hallways and drawing muffled reactions from neighboring classrooms. “YOU WILL SEE LIE-LA IS NO GOOD GIRL AT ALL! I BET EVERYTHING ON THIS! JUST FUCKING COME WITH ME NOW!”

Without waiting another second, Marinette bolted out the door. Her shoes slapped violently against the stairs as she hurtled down the stairwell, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped vulture in a cruelly tiny birdcage. Heavy, chaotic footsteps thundered behind her, a charge of furious classmates and an outraged Miss Bustier whose face was flushed a dangerous shade of crimson. The air in the stairwell felt suffocatingly thin, filled with the sharp echoes of angry chatter and brewing doom.

Just a moment before looking at the one-way glass, Marinette harshly turned her head to the class catching up.

“Hurry the fuck up! Look at Sabrina getting bullied by Lie-la and Bitchy Chloe! I always know Lie-la is fucking up to no goo—!” Marinette, aggressively pointing at the one-way glass as she hatefully cursed, quickly turned her face to only find Lila crying with a very black eye and enraged Chloe holding Sabrina, who was having a mental meltdown, down on the ground.

Marinette was filled with panic and confusion, so her head was flooded with panicking thoughts about how it was not supposed to appear that way.

Marinette’s thought:

N-No no no!! I-IT IS NOT GOING THE WAY I WANTED — LIE-LA AND BITCHY CHLOE ARE FUCKING SUPPOSED TO BULLY SABRINA. WHY IS SABRINA FUCKING ON THE GROUND, NOT BEATEN UP OR SOMETHING?? I KNEW I WOULDN’T TRUST THAT DUMBASS NERD!!

A couple of minutes before the girls in the new restroom were discovered by Marinette and the class, Lila decided to follow her instinct by going out of the new restroom to carefully examine the supposedly opaque glass, but it turned out to be one-way glass. “Ha, really? That’s what Marinette is trying to do, exposing us for bullying Sabrina there by having everyone witness the shit, huh?” Lila scoffed, so she went back into the new restroom to find Chloe cornering crying Sabrina by the stall.

“Get off Sabrina. Marinette replaced the opaque glass outside with one-way glass. I need you to immediately do me a favor. Punch my eye, then hold Sabrina down on the ground right now.” Lila demanded that Chloe do her instructions, but Chloe nervously stammered, “M-Maribrat did w-what? You want me to punch y-you??”

Lila gave Chloe a death stare that made Chloe flinch in shock for a moment, then swiftly go ahead with Lila’s instructions. “N-no, you both a-are supposed n-not to do that —!” Sabrina panicked over how the plan was going awry from its goal as Chloe threw a strong punch at Lila’s eye, then ominously walked towards Sabrina.

Lila’s thought:

HAHAHA! You really thought you outsmarted me, Marinette — no, Psychonette. Too bad, I will turn your trap against you, Psychonette. Be prepared to have your worthless life permanently ruined!

“Seriously, I am considering calling the principal over to discipline you for your illegal action regarding the glass in the new restroom, Marine—!” Miss Bustier, being pissy and fed up with Marinette, found the class crowding up around Marinette and gasping about how Lila was badly hurt, and Chloe stopped Sabrina from assaulting Lila further.

“How could you hurt Lila, Sabrina! She did nothing wrong to you!” Rose cried out, overwhelmed with panic, while tightly gripping Jukela’s pale arm.

“Are you ok, Lila?? What on Earth happened?!” Alya shouted as she ran from Nino past Marinette, who was just standing there like a clueless idiot, to Lila in the new restroom.

“Marinette, you said they are bullying Sabrina, but it seems not to be the case. Were you lying and teaming up with Sabrina to hurt Lila?” Max pointed out the obvious fact and gave his hypothesis on this chaotic situation as Kim was extremely burning with rage. Other classmates were muttering to each other about why Marinette led them to witness the situation that was different from her made-up scenario.

Adrien’s face went pale in shock, and he stared at his new girlfriend, Marinette, opening and closing her mouth as if she was critically thinking about choosing the correct words to explain.

Adrien’s thought:
W-What happened?! Was Marinette on it with Sabrina so Lila could suffer for simply lying about harmless stuff — No, it cannot be… But Marinette constantly expressed her hostility toward Lila, though — Marinette is not that kind of person… R-Right…?

“N-no, I-it is n-not supposed to look like that — they are definitely faking being victims in this situation! Lie-la definitely asked Bitchy Chloe to give her a black eye, then blame Sabrina for that! Lie-la is lying to you all! Please trust m-me — really trust me just this time!” Marinette turned around to beg the whole class to believe her for real as she fell to her knees with her hands crazily praying up.

“W-were you on it with Sabrina, Marinette? I-I don’t understand why you both had to hurt m-me! W-what did I do to upset you both really badly that you both h-hurt me?” Lila’s bruised face was overflowing with teardrops as she sobbed, full of pain, and tightly held on to Alya’s concerned hand while limping out of the new restroom. “I can’t s-see well right n-now, Alya.”

“Maribrat and Sabrina did this to Lila!” Chloe angrily lashed out at Marinette while putting more pressure with her knee on miserable Sabrina’s delicate back, making her gasp for air. “Maribrat planned this whole shit just because she is utterly insecure as fuck and utterly jealous of Lila for being closer to everybody in the class — unlike her utterly attention-seeking ass. How dare you decide to hurt Lila on Maribrat’s orders, Sabrina!”

Miss Bustier was beyond speechless after witnessing the chaotic situation for a moment before she quickly built up her willpower from pure anger and frustration; Miss Bustier lifted her Alliance ring on her finger to speed-dial Principal Damocles to demand that he come to handle the chaotic situation right now, while ordering Chloe to get off sobbing Sabrina so that Lila could go to the infirmary, with Alya and Chloe carrying Lila’s arms past Marinette’s side.

Lila’s thought:

Look at you, Psychonette, completely powerless as everyone turns on you. You brought this entirely on yourself, and now watching your worthless life crumble right before my eyes is pure joy.

After Principal Damocles came and saw a whole happening, his eyes were about to pop out from all that overwhelming stress, but not enough for Monarch to akumatize; he decided to immediately call the police for an emergency and dismiss all students in Collège Françoise Dupont to go home. So the police quickly arrived a few minutes later due to a lack of crime activity, except for minor issues among civilians, because Ladybug and Chat Noir basically killed the crime activity.

Officer Raincomprix almost had a heart attack after hearing that his beloved daughter Sabrina allegedly assaulted Lila on Marinette’s behalf; he repeatedly slapped the hell out of his daughter Sabrina’s cheek to the point it was very red and swollen while screaming at her about how deeply disappointed he was in her.

Sabrina tried to plead that she did not do that; of course, no luck, and she ended up getting temporary house arrest instead of going straight to jail.

Marinette was forcibly taken into the police’s custody right away for violating students’ privacy by illegally replacing opaque glass with one-way glass in the new restroom, which was later closed indefinitely to the students for their safety and privacy, and allegedly assaulting Lila as an accomplice by ordering Sabrina to do her bidding.

Principal Damocles called Marinette’s parents about the situation; Sabine fainted the moment she picked up the phone to hear what just happened at her daughter’s school, but Tom caught her before her head hit the countertop dusted with flour where they make the varieties of dough. They got in the car and sped to the police station, even though they might get ticketed. Then they hastily entered the building to find Marinette sobbing to the policemen, saying she was innocent and constantly blaming Lila and Chloe for framing her with a fake scenario.

“I-I told you all it was not my doing, especially since I never o-ordered Sabrina to assault Lie-la! Yes, I know replacing the opaque glass with a one-way glass was w-wrong of me.” Marinette desperately shouted at the policemen, who were trying to do their jobs behind the desks, with her hands cuffed up, which were red and tender from too much resisting movement. “B-But you have to understand that I-I w-was left with no choice but to expose Lie-la’s true colors and lies!”

“Marinette Dupain-Cheng! Did you really replace the opaque glass with one-way glass to violate your classmates’ privacy just so you could expose Lila’s whatever? You even had Sabrina assaulting her as well — for what?! Is it about your relationship with Adrien again?!” Sabine walked towards Marinette with many emotions running across her face and lifted her hand to loudly slap Marinette’s cheek, then got pulled into Tom’s arms.

Marinette was flabbergasted at being hit by her own mother for the very first time in her whole life; Marinette was supposed to be a normal girl with a normal life who was beloved by people everywhere, yet her reputation was rapidly falling apart… All because of Lie-la… “I cannot believe that our little girl did this… Luckily, we weren’t sued for Marinette violating the privacy of students and assaulting another classmate on the campus.” Tom held Sabine’s overwhelmed face close to his chest, giving his little girl, Marinette, a sad and disappointed look. “I got an email saying our girl is now suspended from the school for two weeks.”

Marinette recoiled and was about to plead that it wasn’t her fault, but then she was shut down right away by her own parents. Marinette’s parents had to close the bakery for the rest of the day so they could do paperwork with the police, which took a couple of hours; then Marinette got officially discharged with a warning. They went home afterward.

Marinette’s life was about to experience the biggest turning point, leading to somewhere where her downfall would inevitably end in the worst way soon…

Marinette’s thought:

W-Why is this all happening to me? It is NOT fair to me — Ladybug, the hero of Paris — and even being the class’s everyday ladybug who always did all kinds of errands, no matter what, for my selfish class, only to be a huge waste of my time and efforts — that’s it… I will still exact my revenge on Lie-la soon. Even if it is going against the code of being a miraculous hero or everything I’m supposed to stand for. I will save you from the cruel world, my Adrien…
