He backs up, ready to flee the room, but Mitya’s scarf has other plans and shuts the door then locks it before Valeriy can make his escape, wagging a finger at him as if disapproving of his attempt at leaving. Funny, how this time it is Valeriy trying to make a run for it and not Mitya who doesn’t really look all too startled.
