Work Text:
Roy morning started off wonderfully.
He had woken up 10 minutes before his alarm went up, his toast was perfectly toasted, and he ran his daily route in record time! The only thing that can top it off as the perfect morning is visiting his favorite inventor. He felt himself pick up that pace as the thought of that scowl.
He hummed to himself as he ran towards the neighborhood’s hermit. As always he went up to the door, knocked, and waited for the other to open the door to sign at him to get off his property. So, he waited.
And waited. And waited. And waited.
…
Maybe Wile slept in today?
But he never overslept! He was always awake when Roy finished his morning run! No matter what was happening that day! Sunny, rain, snow, it didn’t matter! A hurricane could pass by and he would still open the door.
…
Maybe he was finally tired of Roy?
…
Impossible! He couldn’t be tired of Roy! How could he after the fun they had together? The laughs and hijinks they pulled off as a team? No, that was not a possibility. Roy wouldn’t allow that to be a possibility. He would rather rip the flesh on his body-
“What’s up Doc?”
He jumped from where he was standing, to whip his head to look behind him to see Bugs. The silver haired man was sporting his core easy going smile, using one hand to wave at him and the other holding a plastic take out bag.
“I’m guessing you’re wondering where’s Wilely is?” He asked the athlete, who gave an enthusiastic nod, garbing a laugh out of him. “Poor guy came down with a fever. Too much time spent on those machines of his rather than getting some fresh air for his lungs, you know what I mean?”
Roy in fact did know. He has been inside the inventor’s house before, on multiple occasions. It was always filled up to the brim with gadgets and gizmos and other parts he couldn’t name. Of course, this always ended with the inventor always grabbing him by the neck of his tank top and dragging him back out, but details! Bugs didn’t need to know that!
“Well, I was just stopping by to drop off some Bacon Soup and cold medicine for him,” Bugs explained, holding up the hand with the bag. “Knowing Wiley, he probably hasn’t restocked for sick days.”
He looked from the bag to Roy, before a light bulb light up in his head.
“Heyyy Roy,” he elongated the ‘y’, grabbing the other’s attention. “I was originally going to stay and take care of our inventor, but I just remembered that I have a gig tonight. Would you be a dear and take this bag to Wiley?”
Normally, Roy would be annoyed with Bugs calling Wile ‘theirs’. Wile was his, and his alone. But the prospect of taking care of Wile by himself led to him to gloss over that fact, as he was already taking the bag from Bugs. A lazy smile formed on Bug’s face.
“You’re a really peach Roy, really,” he took out a key from his pocket. “Here, a spare key he gave me.”
Again, normally, Roy would overanalyze on why Bugs had a key to Wile’s house, but choose to ignore it in favor of using said key to unlock the front door.
“Take good care of him!”
And then he shut the door.
——————
As like the other times he visits, the inventor’s house was filled to the brim of inventions. Blueprints covered every wall space and the floor was littered with gears and other whatnots. Roy made sure he was extra careful not to touch anything. He didn’t want his dear inventor to be sad because he was reckless and broke one of his contraptions. Speaking of his inventor, he actually didn’t know where he could be.
A loud cough got his attention. Well, that solved that mystery. Roy quickly made his way down the hall to where the coughing was coming from. He quietly opened the door to let himself in. Inside he saw the inventor in his bed.
The other turned his head towards the door.
>Bugs?< He signed.
“Nope! It’s Roy!” He chirped, walking towards the bed.
Wile stared at him for a moment, taking in the information, before springing straight up. A look of confusion and rage fighting to display itself on his face. Roy thought he looked so cute whenever he was like this.
>How did you get in!?!?”< He signed wildly, pointing an accusing finger at Roy.
“Bugs gave me the key!”
Wile paused, looked at his sheets, before wearing his signature scowl. Roy giggled at him, getting the scowl targets towards him now. Not that he minded. Any of Wile’s attention was good attention.
It was short lived when Wile started another coughing fit. Roy’s giggles subsided when he remembered why he was there.
“Bugs sent me because he was busy,” he told him. “He said you probably didn’t have anything prep for when your sick.”
Wile looked away, embarrassed from being called out. Roy couldn’t help, but smile at such a reaction. Rarely ever did the other man get embarrassed such as now. Mostly it was a look of annoyance that he wore.
“Anyways, Bugs gave me some soup and medicine to give you!” He said holding up the bag. “I’ll start heating up the soup so you can take your medicine right after.”
He turned around to get to the kitchen, but not before catching Wile signing something. The only word he could see was “leave”. Well, too late for that, he was here now.
He made his way to the kitchen, opening the cupboards looking for any bowls. Which he only found one of. He looked around some more to realize there was only really one of everything. One plate, one cup, one everything. He opened a drawer which luckily turned out to be the utensils drawer… which carried a single spoon and fork.
Well, there was nothing wrong being a minimalist he supposed. That just means he has more room to move his stuff when they get together! Fueled with this thought, he hummed a soft melody, as he looked for a can opener for the Bacon Soup. A ‘crack’ was echoed in the house as he poured the liquid into the bowl, which he put into the microwave for a minute to warm up. Once he heard the beeping noise, he made sure to wait for the bowl itself to cool down before grabbing the bowl. He made sure that none of the liquid spilled as he carried the bowl to the room.
He pushed the door open letting himself in as Wile looked up from his spot in bed.
>You’re back.< He signed, but he was anything but pleased.
“Yep!” He smiled, placing the bowl on Wile’s covered lap.
Wile rolled his eyes took the spoon, slowly bringing it to his mouth to blow the soup. Roy couldn’t help but stare at his hands. They were scarred and ruffed up by daily use. Bandaids covering almost every finger. Roy had to resist every urge to grab and kiss each one of Wile’s fingers.
Snap
“H-Huh?”
>I was telling you “Thank you for the soup.”< Wile explained to him.
“O-Oh. Yeah… No problem. It was no problem…” he brushed off, feeling embarrassed of being caught off.
Wile raised an eyebrow, before deciding it wasn’t worth pushing. The room was quiet, beside the occasional slurps coming from Wile. Roy watched until the other was done. Once he was done, Wile simply put the bowl on his bedside table, pointing at the bag on the floor. Roy handed it to him, as the inventor took out the medicine. Roy watched as Wile twisted the cap of the bottle open and poured the bright pink liquid on to the same spoon he used to eat soup. He continued to watch as Wile’s face twisted from the taste.
He laughed a bit. Today was just filled of different expressions his inventor could make. He only laughed more as Wile glared at him.
>You can leave now.< He told him.
That got his attention.
“What? Why?”
>Because???< Wile gestured to the medicine. >I’ve been feeded, I took medicine, so now I need to sleep it off. Alone.<
“Aww, come on Wile, don’t you miss me?”
>No.<
Roy decided to ignore the feeling in his chest.
“Come on, don’t be shy, you miss meeeee.”
Wile rubbed his nose bridge.
>You’re not going to leave me alone are you?< He realized.
“Nope!”
Wile just sighed, as he lay in bed, waving his hand.
>Fine, fine. Stay I guess.<
Roy just smiled, but inside he did a fist pump. He walked off to grab a chair to bring next to Wile’s bedside, settling on it.
>Do you really need to sit right next to me?< He asked.
“Of course! In case something happens to you!”
>I’m not-< he paused. >You know what? Never mind.<
They sat there in a moment of silence.
“… So, you heard about what happened with Porky and Petunia?”
>They finally got together?<
“Yes!”
>It was a long time coming.<
The two kept on talking about their neighbors and their lives, before transitioning to Roy’s own life. What he did that morning, the day before after their normal chase, the dinner he had that night, the run he had after dinner before heading to bed.
“And-Wile?”
He looked over to see the inventor fast asleep. His face the softest he ever seen him. Roy couldn’t help but reach out for it, using his thumb to swipe across the other’s check. The motion got the other to stir but not fully awaken. Roy’s eyes trailed down to Wile’s hands that lay on the sheets.
He sucked in a breath at an idea. Slowly, his hand moved from Wile’s face to his hands, as Roy picked one up.
‘Just a quick one,’ he promised himself.
But which finger? Out of five, which one should he kiss. He only thought about it for a second, before landing on the ring finger. His lips meeting the skin. He swore he felt an electric shock, as he made contact, feeling the texture of hands that worked hard for years. He gently placed the hand back down on the bed, before quietly getting up.
“Get better soon Wile,” he whispered, as he head out.
He couldn’t wait for the day he got to kiss the inventor’s hands all he want.
