Purpose: Orientation
S: Hello there. This is a standard orientational chat to make sure you are properly adjusted to your existence and upcoming habitat. I am going to ask you a few questions, and assuming there were no errors in your creation, you should instinctually know the answers to all of them. Do you understand?
D2846: Yes.
S: Good. Firstly, what are you?
D2846: I am a Drone.
S: Correct. Next, what is your purpose?
D2846: I carry out whatever tasks my superiors assign me to.
S: Can you name any of these tasks?
D2846: I could be assigned to tasks such as cleaning cubicles, filing reports, and storing memories.
S: Very good. Now, where do you work?
D2846: The Archives.
S: Correct. And what is the purpose of The Archives?
D2846: Storage, organization, and potential retrieval of lost or forgotten memories.
S: Also correct. Those are all of the orientational questions I have for you, and everything you need to know to start your work should already be engraved into you. Now, just to gauge what you will be like after you surface, I will allow you to ask me 3 questions, which I will answer truthfully. Do you understand?
D2846: Yes.
S: Then you may ask away.
D2846: Who are you?
S: …Ah.
S: I am Starlight. I am your creator, along with the creator of all else in The Archives. Is that a sufficient answer?
D2846: Yes.
D2846: What will happen to me when I “surface”? You said that you wouldn’t be able to communicate with me afterwards.
S: …You have a knack for posing these questions.
S: When you surface, you will not remember me or this conversation. In truth, the only reason we are having this conversation is for me to make sure that you will be able to function properly once you begin work in The Archives.
S: I will not contact you or anyone else in the Archives after this.
S: So, knowing that, what is your final question?
D2846: Where else is there?
S: …I’m sorry, I’m not sure I follow.
D2846: If the purpose of The Archives is to store memories, those memories have to come from somewhere. So, what other places are there other than The Archives?
S: …That’s a good question.
S: I’m sorry, but… I don’t believe I’m…
S: …Willing to answer that.
D2846: …Ok.
