Kiss me like your sober thoughts

Summary:

“What?” Megumi almost whispers. Yuji keeps staring, gliding his attention all over him.

“Our..talk. You wanted to talk”

Megumi looks away “I do. However I’m filthy right now”

“Okay, and?”

It’s said as a blunt stab, and feels a little irritable. Megumi eyes him, biting back a grin.

“You sound desperate.” This bastard, Yuji thinks.

Notes:

Work Text:

“Sooo.. I have a surprise”

“A surprise?” Megumi halts in his desk chair, swivelling around to stare at Yuji in the eye, brow raised in suspicion.

Well he can’t blame the look written all over Megumi. Perhaps it’s not often he has surprises, let alone for just the two of them, however Yuji likes the look on his face when he does these things. Plus, Megumi gets so weirdly offended that it’s cute, failing to hide his excitement or secret enjoyment.

Yuji perks, showing the bag he hid behind his back, not that it was discreet. He immediately catches on to the other boy’s expression deepening, folding his arms which was a little dangerous. Like, good-looking dangerous. They had a rough day of training yesterday afternoon, muscles strained and peaking summer sun burnt their heads. And of course the day before that Megumi had injured his arm while Yuji wasn’t doing any better either, slicing his leg but healing it in the middle of battle to then help Megumi from the floor—

Yeah so, you can’t blame him for staring a little too much. They needed a break after that. Not that anything in the past few years at Jujutsu tech had been.. easy. Yuji just believes in breaks. Especially if it involves time with the person he loves annoying, and totally doesn’t have strong feelings for.

He opens the bag as he sits on the edge of Megumi’s bed, the latter eyeing him the whole time. He would shiver at that, until Megumi opens his mouth at the sight of Yuji pulling out a bottle of wine.

Watching Megumi’s mouth stay open like a fish, and furrow his brows at what Yuji assumes he’s thinking absurdity, at what’s being played out right now. It was quite funny, and he looked twee. His long lashes lift back up to meet his eyes, “your surprise is to get drunk?”

Yuji smiles a little nervous, voice croaking “..yeah”

“Seriously?”

“You can say no” Yuji deflates, setting the bottle on the corner of the desk, Megumi looks at it before picking it up and reading the label.

“I never denied anything, just thinking”

The summer heat has swelled down as night crept up, Megumi’s blinds reflecting the moon’s glow. Tonight seemed right. Well, if he back tracks and replaces the drink with his hands to cover Megumi’s own, then he’d be in his original plan.

Confessing to someone has never been easy, at least to Yuji. Which is surprising, and actually pathetic looking back on how many times he backed out or cut himself off when trying to tie their red strings.

“It seems too late for this”

“Huh? Don’t people usually drink at night?”

Megumi realises he’s right, then pouts. Cute, Yuji thinks. “You do realise we’re not legally old enough to drink” okay now he’s actually pinned on an issue that wasn’t planned beforehand.

He swallows “you got me there, however, you’re gonna be mad no matter what I tell you. May as well break another rule!”

“more like a law but alright. It’s not like we have a good criminal record,” he sighs “I won’t be mad, where did you manage to get this?”

“I stole it”

“What?”

“Er— from the teachers break room”

Winding down the wicked look, Megumi twists open the bottle with little effort, a crack sounding through the room from the sealed lid. It was still and cold, coloured the same pale pink that would dust his cheeks from the slightest heat.

Taking a moment to smell the flavour, nose twitching from the strong smell “It says it’s sweet,” then he’s handing it to Yuji, insisting on the boy to do the same. Yuji takes it, sniffing at the rim. It was strong, already wanting to take a sip for science.

“I didn’t really check what flavour, because, I stole it”

Megumi plays with the lid in between his fingers, still not pleased about that information. Yuji straightens “so, would you want to maybe..?” Hope in his voice and peeking at Megumi’s dark eyes. A little ominous, sometimes his ability to show emotion can be small.

He scowls in his adorable silly way “we really shouldn’t indulge in this. The trouble we’d be in would be a pain in the ass”

“Aw c'mon man! It’s not gonna be like our movie nights, this is just a ‘tonight’ thing”

“That sounds troubling. Sure you can get drunk from just this?”

Yuji grins, finding that glint in Megumi’s gaze, sounds like a challenge. Megumi rolls his eyes, tilting his head to the side decisively, Yuji’s heart pumps an ungrateful round of blood to his head and he’s sure the alcohol later on—if Megumi says yes—will make him blush embarrassingly red.

Their eyes meet for a long moment, before Megumi looks away “I’m not opposed to this”

“Fushiguro, I know” he huffs a laugh, watching the emotions of cold winter melt away.

Megumi kicks him in the shin, lightly enough to not keel over from. Suddenly he’s slipping the drink from Yuji’s hands and taking a mouthful of the content. He pulls away, wincing at the flavour and blinking multiple times as inebriation hits his throat.

“We could’ve waited!” Yuji chuckles, taking his own sip. Totally not thinking about how Megumi’s lips touched the glass already, gulping nervously, focusing on the taste and not the other looking at him.

Chugging another sip, he hums “it’s not too bad” Yuji says.

“It’s terrible.” Yuji only gives him a mischievous glance.

Megumi stares, leaving his chair to sit next to him, shoulders brushing. His heart beats a little faster, excited and anxious all at once.

“How exactly did you steal this?” Megumi asks sceptically, having another sip. The face he made seemed that he wasn’t enjoying it as much as the other, that didn’t stop him though.

“Uh… I may have stolen it from Shoko..”

Wrong words to say, as Megumi whacks him upside the back of his head earning a yelp in response.

“Hey! You said you wouldn’t hit me!”

“I never said that. Dude you went to her office? Luckily she wouldn’t really care. Emphasis on ‘lucky’”

“Thank you?”

“Wasn’t a compliment”

“I can dream”

Megumi shoves the vial into the shorter’s hands, rolling his eyes.

——

Eventually they end up on the floor, Yuji’s not sure why, maybe the games he’d brought over midway were easier to play on a flatter surface. Megumi’s angry at losing, then hitting him for winning. Yuji doesn’t mind it at all.

He’s laughing until it physically hurts to keep at it, the other is clutching a palm to his mouth, desperately trying to keep the giggling from coming out.

Megumi takes out his laptop, trying to prove that Yuji had cheated during their card game, taking another swig from the bottle for losing.

H doesn’t remember why they ended up opposite ends flat on their backs. Yuji laughs to himself, what a weird situation he’s ended up in.

“What’re you laughing about?” Megumi slurs, tipsy or drunk, he can’t really tell. Yuji is definitely past tipsy, enjoying that swaying feeling every time he closes his eyes. Basking in it, he sort of wishes it was pouring rain outside. An excuse to be even closer to Megumi, maybe.

“Nothing” he replies late.

Megumi doesn’t say anything, though he feels that familiar burn of someone looking his way. A shock rockets through his body as Megumi’s fingers creep up to sift through his hair, fixing the overgrown bangs to hook into unruly strands. It’s gone, like a blink in time; Yuji wants more of it.

Yuji huffs a breath through his nose. Megumi watches, all the same. He’s entirely too zoned out to understand why he laughed in the first place.

Yuji turns his head, their faces are so close, it’s painful to not move. Megumi’s eyes are a deep blue, soft in the warm lighting. His deep blue eyes map out his every detail. Yuji wants to move closer. Definitely closer.

“Feeling alright, Fushi?”

Megumi takes a deep breath, minty and alcoholic.

Unlike this, their interactions as of late have done nothing but torture Yuji’s heart. Megumi’s long glances, not steering away compared to the start of their second year here. Usually when caught looking at each other, they departed as fast as possible, or awkwardly smiled to move on.

Now the tension is unbearable.

Yuji vaguely remembers during training as he sat on the sidelines, Megumi using his shirt to wipe the sweat from his forehead, down his chin. Their eyes met, still and glued, features softened. Until Maki called out to start on the next exercise, then everything that happened in those few seconds was washed away, back to scowling and sharp eyes.

Now their lips have brushed and he’s about to lose it.

“You’re so drunk” Yuji says against Megumi’s lips, he can feel his grin tuning. This should be considered very strange. Friends don’t touch lips and act like it’s not bursting something within.

“You talk too much,” Megumi whispers.

“It’s my charm”

Megumi hums, wrapping a hand by the back of Yuji’s head, softly clutching strands of hair, playing with the growing locks, feeling the short undercut that needs another shave soon. He lightly laughs, Yuji breathing it in. It’s so intimate that he can’t even name it.

Yuji almost motions to lick his lips, when he feels Megumi move over a little more. He’s drunk, but he’s not that stupid. Not now at least. So Yuji presses his lips against his, for some reason expecting the other to push him off.

Megumi doesn’t stray away, instead he kisses back. Yuji feels the pressure, taking his bottom lip between his own, and he can feel Megumi’s hand shaking in his hair. Running his thumb behind his ear.

Their lips are overlapping, like feeding a starving man, he pushes further. The sound of their mouths are putting him in a frenzy. Megumi gasps as their lips part, striking a ping in Yuji’s chest. He licks along his top lips, intertwining breaths. It’s hot and steamy, and he feels a different pang in his sternum at the reminder that they’re not sober. He cracks his eyes open, giddy taking over that thought; not ready to be brought up yet. The sight of Megumi’s flushed pale skin, running down his throat. Yuji laughs, oh god they really are making out on Megumi’s bedroom floor. Nobara could walk in or worse Gojo, their tormenting and snarky comments would never end, not to mention their drunken state underage.

The room is shifting, the earth is slowing its speed. Though, his heart is taking all the momentum.

They break away to breathe as Megumi shifts to sit up. The burning red over his cheeks is still present. Yuji’s hand drops from hastily trying to combine their distance—which he doesn’t remember doing—he sits up too. They’re quiet, only shallow breaths taking up the room.

Yuji smiles, chuckling at the imagery. They kissed. They kissed and that deep need aching all over his body is simmering.

“Itadori..” Megumi speaks to the intense air, still sitting close, his body sways as he settles. Yuji stares at him, mouth gaped open slightly. He moves his head to the side a little, swimming the room in a flooded dream. He wants to kiss him again. Bite him. Something stupid. This is so stupid. He glances at the door, imagining, with bated breath, that someone will burst in.

Megumi looks at him like he wants to kiss him too, and maybe punch him. Yuji doesn’t entirely hate that idea, “like spiderman” he giggles

“Shut up” Megumi laughs, breathless and whispers like they’re the only people left alive.

Yuji shoots out, desperate “We did that right? Like we just— I’m not drunk dreaming?”

“This isn’t a dream. I think you’ve had more wine than me”

He laughs “yeah you’re probably right”

Their eyes meet again, plates connecting, that sensation of something clicking in their tension is back again. Needing each other, now feels more cherished.

With bated breath “Fushiguro..”

“Fuck, I kissed you”

Yuji snorted, surprised “uhm, yeah, yeah you did. We did”

“I did”

Megumi runs his hands through his hair, then covers his mouth in shock.

Yuji opens his mouth to speak, but nothing comes out. Megumi sighs softly, eyes awake, analysing his whole being. He frowns, moving in closer as if it’ll burn him.

“You seem oddly calm about this” Megumi trembles leaning on his hands, sort of failing to not show how nervous he is. Yuji isn’t doing much better, eyeing swollen lips and really having nothing else on his mind right now.

“I.. I guess I’m not upset about this.. like at all”

Their mouths a breath away again, he could really get used to this.

“I uh..” crap Megumi is so close again, eyes meeting, they’re deep blue and asking. Pretty sure the other isn’t aware of just how desperate he looks hidden under that nonchalance. Megumi backs away by a fraction, watching Yuji’s every move.

“You look sick”

“I’m fine”

“Yuji.”

It can’t be all that horrible now can it.

Yuji closes the gap once more, falling into their already built rhythm. Urgently, crazily, a mixture between the two. He’s wanted this for too long. Yuji isn’t sure when he’ll get the chance again. Is this just a drunk thing? Worry seeps into his bones again, but Megumi pushes him down onto his back, climbing over him. He senses Yuji slowing down, pressing a simple kiss before parting.

“I want this,” Megumi whispers, then kisses him again. Yuji feels weight lift from his shoulders, practically forgetting the worry he felt as they properly kissed. Shit, it feels so much better this way. Megumi cradles his jaw with one hand, rubbing along the blushed skin with his thumb.

Fluorescent light halos Megumi’s midnight hair, falling around his face, Yuji runs his hands through it. Silky and thick like he imagined, then he cups the back of his neck, pushing them impossibly closer. He turns his head, deepening the kiss, earning a pleased hum from above. Yuji inwardly laughs at his response. Their bodies collide, clothes create humidity, Yuji gets the ridiculous idea to take his shirt off.

Megumi’s hand falls down his chest, on the edge of clawing his top and down his abs. His knee sits between Yuji’s thighs, this is too much. Not enough. He wants more, to be selfish, take Megumi in his arms and combine. Subconsciously he shifts his hips, the motion sends a jolt through his abdomen, he almost whines. Megumi bites his lip, hooking his hand under his thigh, hithering their bodies.

“Shit” Megumi exhales.

They part to breathe, lips wet and lungs fighting. Yuji laughs again, exchanging expressions softly as Megumi lays his face on his, like some attention seeking cat. His forehead against his brow bone, then gliding his lips over his cheek, planting light kisses on his jaw; down his neck with maliciousness.

This feels so real, so much more. Locking lips spiderverse style was great but damn, Megumi kissing with the hushed breath he always does when distracted feels a whole lot better.

Then Megumi’s sucking his skin, catching Yuji’s breath. Hands climb up his chest, memorising every carving and hard work, taking place over the curve of Yuji’s neck. Megumi continues to suck and lick the bruises. A particular spot staggers his breath, he clutches the back of Megumi’s neck, nails in dark hair. Yuji whimpers an embarrassing noise, but too drunk to care. Eventually feeling funny and ticklish, Yuji giggles, bubbling breathless. Once he feels Megumi’s hands tighten, his lips curving up in a smile, it’s not helping the situation.

He’s getting tired, he wants more. Wants and wants and wants. Megumi stops, slowly collapsing on top of the shorter. Yuji brings him closer, trying to sync their hearts.

“Fushiguro..”

Megumi wraps an arm around his waist, “it’s okay” the words settle the air a little more, his lips lazily closing on the skin he can reach. Yuji runs mindless patterns over Megumi’s back, outlining the muscles and blushing at how just the thought makes him crumble.

“Fushi..” he says to the still air, he wants to laugh again. An unknown reason or the fact he’s already feeling the crink in his spine from laying on the hardwood floor. Megumi is all he can picture now, vibrant eyes and dark bangs he wants to brush his fingers through.

Yuji cups his cheek, feeling Megumi smile, somehow feeling it is better than seeing it.

“C’mon, we should get up” Yuji huffs, twisting their melted forms, like liquid to the ground beneath them, soaking up every ounce of energy. The boy on top of him inhales, deep aligning his lungs. He leaves a lingering kiss, light on the column of Yuji’s throat, before putting all his weight into sitting up. The lamp on Megumi’s bedside table springs gates through his dark hair, making him more ethereal than Yuji thought was possible.

Once they’ve pulled back the covers and huddled in bed, late night fatigue fully sets in. Yuji breathes in the familiar smell of Megumi’s sheets, somber and always comforting. His name rings in his head. Megumi isn’t pulled away to the dark just yet, still awake to wrap his arms around Yuji’s waist and kissing the tan skin available to him.

“Can’t believe you got us wine” Megumi whispers, tingling Yuji’s skin, the hair along his arms stand up.

“Making me feel exposed. I look so dumb right now, I can tell”

Yuji chuckles, closing his eyes. The whole world is turning, that thrilling feeling when on a swing or spinning in circles as a kid, weird. Good weird.

Keeping his fanatic trail, like prints around his neck hovering over his form again. Yuji’s too tired to reciprocate, but he’s melting under Megumi’s touch and for some time he just rests there, sinking in the sheets and letting the boy do what he wants. Kiss and lick from the jaw down to the sternum. It’s nice, shooting stars in the void of sky, lips catching them.

“I’m not making you do this Fushiguro..” Yuji jokes.

Eventually Megumi lifts again, faces an inch apart. He opens his eyes to meet blue. Something fond and so altering washes over Yuji as dark lashes flutter over his features, feeling exposed and under a beaming spotlight. Megumi connects their foreheads, just breathing each other in. It felt soothing, as if they’ve done this a hundred times already.

“I shouldn’t need alcohol to spill my feelings”

“Now you’re the one talking too much”

Megumi ever so casually connects their lips again, not the rush from earlier or heated thrill. Just simple and thoughtful, soft like clouded sugar. Separating didn’t have that needy taste to take it back, instead a kind of promise they can do this again. Megumi finally collapses into the comforter, tucking the other under his chin and relaxing.

“..Are you tired?”

Yuji wants to give him a bit of his own treatment such as a punch to the gut; he’s clutching Megumi’s shirt instead. He’s very tired, who knew the movies weren’t lying about people passing out no matter what they’re doing after getting drunk.

“Yeah.. are you?” Yuji responds anyway.

“Very, just can’t stop wanting to..” he groans “kiss me again?” Pleading and it’s almost convincing. Feeling Megumi kiss his head of hair as he stirs for an answer.

This creates a wicked idea, and since Yuji is drunk enough with both gross alcohol and glowing wisdom. He sighs, “kiss me in the morning” humour thinning his voice.

The words don’t fully render yet, despite replaying it in his head. With the remaining reply like dust caught in sunlight, “I will”

Sleep is engulfing them, taking over whatever mess they had created.

It’s fine. Yuji says in his head. They’ll be fine.

——————

When Yuji wakes, he is not fine.

An awful hit to the gut erupts, pain vibrating his brain. The light shining through the windows hurts his eyes despite not even opening them.

Nausea is a villain to the body, except his arms are wrapped around a lithe waist, legs tangled, and a thumping heart drums through his ears. It almost soothes him back to sleep.

That idea sounds wonderful now, but he feels ill. Life is so unfair.

Megumi’s arms are holding onto him, nails scratching in such a delicate manner. Yuji swears this is going to be the death of him. Crap this is terrible timing, he’s about to be sick and his best friend is tugging all his heart strings.

Oh god we kissed last night.

Shit I was acting like a horny weirdo! Yuji hisses, quietly as he can to not startle the other. Who is probably wide awake, sneaking a look upwards to see his theory; he’s correct. Well, partly.

Megumi’s lying flat on his back, seemingly zoned out and slowly blinking at the ceiling. Hands fiddling and creating sparks with the soft touches completely unaware of the other looking at him.

His stomach is twisting and whatever he ate for dinner yesterday was about to come up to say good morning. Yuji has no other choice than to get up, startling Megumi anyway, and rush to the conjoined bathroom.

“Itadori—”

Being hungover is the worst thing ever and he’s been at it for like five minutes. Yuji pauses, he spits the gross taste in his mouth into the bowl and flushing it, then snagging toilet paper to wipe his mouth. He rests his head on the seat, not sanitary at all but hell he must have drank more than he thought. Or ate too much. He shouldn’t think too hard when he can still feel the sting in his cheeks, the light of the bathroom hurts his eyes so closing them and sinking there like a worthless worm is the smartest choice.

A moment passes as he regulates his breathing, frowning from the cloudy mind and yet so much to feel, so much to memorise. Yuji feels a radiance nearer, a hand on his shoulder, grounding and intricate. Blindly he cradles said hand, needing that closeness.

He lets go as soon as that rising sickness climbs up his throat again, this sucks. It’s also heaven as he feels a hand rubbing circles on his back, the fray drag of nails along his spine.

After a few seconds of pure disgust, the toilet is flushed again, and he cracks his eyes open to find Megumi sitting by his side. He runs a hand through pink hair, lightly scratching his scalp and Yuji feels a lot better actually. Megumi smiles small, an uplift the teen doesn’t show often.

“You okay?” He asks, groggy with sleep, deep and scratchy it rumbles his bones. Yuji stares for a moment, then remembers he’s hutched over a toilet bowl and suddenly feels like the most vile person ever. He wipes his mouth with another square of paper, what a morning.

“Hrnngg” he grimaces, enjoying the feeling of Megumi’s nice fingers in his hair. He closes the lid and flushes the toilet before it takes his sanity too.

Megumi rolls his eyes “seems I drank a little less than you,” which earns a frown from Yuji.

“Man.. I didn’t drink that much.” Megumi huffs air through his nose, shaking his head.

“I don’t feel 10/10 either, I’m surprised I’m not joining you.”

The room is less painful to the eyes, brightening in a welcome way. Yuji lifts his head, causing the hand to fall away. He scowls a little at that, then looks Megumi in the eye, fully focused and wanting that attention on him again. Needing that attention on him again. It takes a second for Yuji to realise Megumi’s cheeks are tinted pink, dark eyes downcasted just below his face, seemingly focused for a moment.

They’re quiet for a while, how do they bring last night up? Do they act like a couple now? Aren’t they supposed to talk it all out like they do in movies and romance novels? Or horribly worse: avoid each other like the plague. He really doesn’t want a ‘friends with benefits’ sort of situation.

It didn’t seem to go that way, Megumi is here, rubbed circles on his back and ran his fingers through his hair. The memory of that last kiss between them filters again.

“Fushiguro..?” He starts, not actually knowing what to say next. Megumi answers quickly, too fast.

“Yeah. Um. I should get us painkillers or something, my head is killing me” he doesn’t move yet, gradually watching Yuji sit up more comfortably. He looks like there’s something he wants to do, but isn’t sure how to grasp it. Yuji breathes in, then Megumi’s hands are gently cradling his jaw, eyes avoiding honey brown and may as well call it an electric shock to restart his heart as the feather of a kiss is pressed on his forehead. Yuji lets go of the breath he’d been holding, stunned.

“I’ll be right back” it’s sheepish and gentle, said to the small space around them and then Megumi is gone, leaving his face cold from the missing touch. He catches the site of Megumi’s back, muscles strong underneath the layer of fabric. Yuji can already feel the touch from hours ago just by looking.

Staring at the bathroom tiles, he realises that it’s about time to stand up and brush his teeth. Only to remember that he isn’t in his room. Crap. Looking in the mirror, he sees a wreck. Pink hair growing out and brown undercut tickling the backside of his ears. Eyes hazy with sleep, being hungover sucked more than they showed in movies. He looks down a fraction.

Well shit. No wonder Megumi was a blushing mess just minutes ago. His neck is a bruising canvas like he’d been mauled in his sleep; this shouldn’t be too bad. He could hide them. Surely.

He turns the tap on to wash his mouth out, lost in the routine. What would Megumi think? He kissed him just then, surely nothing bad comes from this. Being in a relationship isn’t exactly new to Yuji, it’s just never been with such a friend like him; his best friend. A guy. Megumi.

Come to think of it, that’s his first kiss. Well, first real kiss. Any other lip to lip contact in his life has been no more than a peck.

Acting like they’re together after all this does send a few flips in his stomach. Not the sick kind that’s for sure. Was this their breaking point?

Shoulders brushing, fingers grazing, faces so close they go cross eyed. Butterflies are set aflame. Now all of their instances are replaying in his mind, Megumi remembering his obnoxiously sweet dessert order, the smile he sends after Yuji makes his coffee, especially after a mission and dinner had been prepared beforehand; those smiles of pure joy and being able to relax makes his heart restart. He can’t forget when Megumi would lean his head on his shoulder some movie nights, or he’d do the same in the car; Megumi always leaning to the touch.

Now it seems a little too obvious. Has he been horribly blind to Megumi’s feelings this whole time or just.. dumb. Actually Yuji reckons Megumi has been hiding more than he shows. Planting a hand on his thigh to stop him from jostling in the car (and attacking Nobara), is so plain obvious, Yuji groans to himself.

he hears footsteps heading his way, Yuji should just wait for what comes next, speak his mind right? They’re best friends, not strangers that hooked up at a club. He cups his hands under the running tap, splashing his face and the cold water feels effortlessly refreshing.

Megumi walks up to him, hands full with painkillers, a bottle of water, and.. his toothbrush. Dammit, Yuji’s a total loser for him.

“What’re you upset about?” Megumi asks, handing over the toothbrush, his voice sort of nervous. Yuji takes it, running the brush under cold water, “nothing..”

He expects Megumi to leave, or some other motive to not be in this position of dignity. Instead Megumi is leaning on the counter, blinking away sleep before picking up his own toothbrush and following suit.

The morning is quiet and seeping with heat from summer knocking in. He stays by Yuji’s side, brushing his teeth with a hand on the edge of the sink to keep upright. For some reason he looks good doing it, or just about anything.

“Sure ya dim’t drink less than me?” Yuji asks, mouth full.

Megumi looks at him through the mirror, giving Yuji a small heart attack, reminding him how those eyes last night were intense and doting. Megumi leans over the sink, spitting out minty foam and washes his mouth out.

“I haven’t thrown up my dinner so yeah I’m sure”

Yuji pauses to speak, taking his toothbrush out “dude, don't remind me about two minutes ago” he cringes.

Regardless of spending so much time together, seeing the other dress in comfortable clothes and unbrushed bed hair is forever satisfying to see even a couple years later. Megumi’s constant attire is his trademark uniform, although they graduate this year, it’s hard to envision him outside of the outfit when older. His t-shirt is black and crinkled, the lines continuing along his pale skin to emphasise the deep sleep. Yuji finishes up, keeping the sight treasured.

It’s charged now. The sight of Megumi’s arm flexes in the corner of his eye as he shifts. Is Yuji the only person still drunk? Seriously, watching this intensely should be criminal, he feels like a stalker.

He watches Megumi stumble a little, holding the side of his head and take the medicine he brought in. Now Yuji’s watching the bob of his throat, he should stop. Like genuinely what is his problem.

“Eugh we should shower” the former says, voice clearer and setting the bottle down. That sentence does not give Yuji ideas. Yuji wipes his mouth and looks over his features for a moment too long. Megumi’s lips wet from the water. Fucking fuck.

“Right. Yeah”

“You’re staring”

“Shut up!” Yuji takes his things, painkillers and all his outrageous thoughts with him and heads to his own room, not without the other chuckling at his reaction. He may as well physically bite him. So awesome! Score? Newbie relationship goals?..

——————

Yuji gives both of them until, well.. more like Nobara gives him until she basically punches him during training the next day, because he was staring off to the side for too long.

“What’s your deal? You’re all loopy and spaced out” she tightens her ponytail, her hair is getting longer, a slick caramel against the afternoon sun.

“Ugh, sorry, just lost in thought” he slumps, adjusting his footing again.

She watches him for a few seconds, up and down with the sight of judgement “tell me what’s up, you’re not slick at all and I’m sure Fushiguro can feel your staring”

Yuji blushes “wha— I wasn’t staring. Don’t be so loud”

“Not even that loud”

“He’s right there”

“it’s miserable watching you ogle him while you’re supposed to be focused right now” Nobara rolls her eyes. Yuji cowards his gaze away.

“Spill!” She yells this time.

“Okay!”

Yuji fiddles, standing upright “we kinda.. got drunk the other night and did things I’d rather not discuss here and we have not talked yet, do you think he regrets it? I can’t stop looking at him and feel like a perv Kugisaki, help me out!”

Nobara shifts her weight to one leg, her jaw falling off the hinges. Eyes widening with every blink. Like usual, it’s tradition for her to yank him by the signature red collar, tight in her grasp and yell at him until it stains his eardrums.

“what?!—” suddenly, her whole focus flies down, something catches her eye. Her brows fly up, mouth agape. Oh no. Yuji knows what she’s looking at. Oh NO.

“Itadori Yuji..” her brow raises, letting him go with a push. He stumbles a little, shoving his hood back to its high place. Nobara howls, high and amused. Yuji shrinks, this is so bad. “Is that what I think it is?” Now he’s sweating heavy bullets.

Yuji stands back, tightening the red fabric around his neck “uh, look we don’t have to talk about this here..”

“Oh, no I think we should” she folds her arms, a snarky grin falling upon her face. The sun is beating down on them, doubling his nerves with uncomfortable spikes. Nobara’s knowing gaze adding to the hot melting heat was a terrible mix. May as well call them both the same thing.

he blushes, shutting in on himself “we really don’t.”

Nobara laughs again. Yuji never told Nobara about his feelings for Megumi, although he’s sure she figured it out all on her own. Their bond was close enough to be wordless, lingering touches and eye contact too strong to ignore, Nobara wasn’t stupid. Yuji’s a little surprised Megumi hadn’t locked him in a room and forced the confession out of him months ago.

“I know how it looks..”

“It’s exactly how it looks. Where’d you get alcohol anyway? I thought you were too dumb to steal”

He halts for a second “Excuse you. I stole some from Shoko.. don’t say anything!”

“Oh I won’t. But I think you should start by saying something to Fushiguro” she deadpans.

He shivers, “why? Is he looking? what do I even say?”

“calm down, jeez. First option Itadori: how about— confessing your feelings??” a drip of sweat rolls down the side of her face “I’ve dealt with enough of your shenanigans these past couple years and this mess between you guys will not be one of them.” Yuji whines like a miserable dog being put outside, feeling the gross sweat all over him too, and inwardly sobs at this situation. Nobara moves to leave before backtracking and crossing her arms.

“Wait. Has he not said anything either?”

Yuji nods, taking in a sharp breath at the memory of Megumi cupping his face and pressing a soft kiss to the middle of his forehead. Shit he already misses him. It’s been literally one day.

Her eyes float, half lidded with disbelief “ugh, you’re both so hopeless I can’t believe this. I’ll think about praying for you” and she’s stalking off, hinting under her breath about boys and their dumb feelings; catching up with Maki to talk about.. girl things. He doesn’t know, or care actually because he catches Megumi’s eye by accident and has never turned around faster in his life.

Not feeling so safe now though. Megumi has his uniform jacked off, heat from up above dressing him down to just a tight grey shirt that will not stop ruining his brain with images.

Yuji horrendously wants to kiss him again, hold hands, touch, and honestly anything. He wants to be his boyfriend and call him stupid names to make Megumi blush that cute red. It’s a miracle he made it through the night without dying to crawl back in Megumi’s room. How he’s even surviving right now, who knows.

He’s bolting away from the field, needing a drink. Preferably non alcoholic this time.

Yuji kicks the vending machine in hopes it’ll give him his soda, or a refund at this point. Until a familiar presence stalls behind him.

“Itadori.”

Whipping around to find Megumi, light blush painting his cheeks and brows creased. He blinks owlish, “Fushi..” he wobbles a smile, “what’s up?”

“We should talk”

“..right, talk. That is something, we should do”

“Why are you being weird?”

“How can I not be weird right now”

Megumi sighs “look, just, about the other night..”

The words spilling before him have all of Yuji’s senses heightened, this is it. A harsh thumping ringing in his ears, Yuji hopes that the other can’t hear his own heart skipping along the line. Just as he’s pulling himself together, ready to hear what he can’t stop thinking about—a strong burst of energy pops the bubble they huddled into.

“Oh my lovely students! Gossiping between lessons I see”

“Sensei!” Yuji gulps.

Gojo smirks, raising a brow at their frozen stances. Megumi turns, scowling at how their quite obvious— very important—conversation was interrupted. “Gojo. Now is not the time for this. Never is a good time actually”

“Why? Having serious boy talk? Do I need to input some advice, because I have plenty”

Yuji would laugh at his ridiculous face if he didn’t feel so awkwardly interrogated.

“No, god don’t even start on that”

He flips his glasses up to rest upon his fluff of white hair “shame! Well, sorry to ruin your talk kiddies, but you Megs, have a mission!” He checks his wrist for a nonexistent watch, “right about now!”

“Of course it’s right now,” Megumi squinted.

He looks back at Yuji, who squirms under the spotlight.

“We’ll talk later”

“Yeah, for sure”

“I mean it” he says, walking away with Gojo, Yuji nods to keep up the performance before they’re completely out of sight. Then he slumps against the vending machine, dragging his hands down his sweaty face, holding around to the back of his neck. Suddenly the feeling of those bruises spiked his anxiety, did Gojo see?

Who is Yuji kidding, Gojo can see everything.

———

Yuji spends the next couple of hours training, ignoring Nobara’s suspicious glances, and daydreaming of spikey hair.

He’s reached a new stage of the down low. He can’t even exercise the memories away, trying to get the feeling out of his head of every single touch Megumi has ever given him. Replaying the scene of Megumi on top of him in the middle of fighting examples is terrible timing and so embarrassing he wants to explode.

Only another round of training, lounging around the grass and chatting, has time passed until dinner should be plated. Megumi must be on the way back by now, the mission he’d been sent on might’ve been a bit harsh.

Yuji turns the corner, heading down the corridor after a steaming hot meal and notices Megumi unlocking his door. The other was covered in grime, dirtied shoes and possibly a mix of curse blood and his own caked along the side of his face.

He rushes over to him “woah! Fushiguro, are you okay?”

Megumi whips his head his way, oddly relaxed for being in such a state “yeah, I’m fine”

“You’re bleeding!”

“It’s nothing, Shoko fixed me up already, now I’m just dirty”

Well thank goodness for that. Despite the look of his friend, that prior conversation about their talk is still stuck in his head.

He’s stepped closer now, really looking. Far past staring, Megumi must have noticed. Still frozen after unlocking his door, he pockets the key, and fully faces Yuji.

Yuji believes he has one more blood rush before his heart gives out. Cause of death: Megumi Fushiguro. For what? Being really slick and weird and hot and he’s going to suffocate. Yuji doesn’t reply, too stunned; so he just ends up blushing really red.

Megumi looks over him again before entering his room, with a few seconds passing, Yuji hadn’t moved. Glued to the spot like an idiot.

“You coming in or what?”

“Yeah, yep, coming” he mainly rushes to himself as he walks in and closes the door. Megumi’s shoving off his dirty jacket, grunting at the ripped slash the curse had left behind.

Yuji can’t take it anymore, he’s never held in words for so long in his life.

“Fushiguro I just gotta know, did I make you uncomfortable or something that night? I’m getting very mixed vibes right now” with Megumi now folding his jacket and dumping it in his dirty clothes basket, he continues to go in his bathroom and get a towel, just doing his nightly routine like there isn’t a ball of exertion in the room.

“Would I invite you into my room if it made me uncomfortable?” The tap starts running.

“Well no, it’s just that you seem, weird I guess”

“I think getting drunk and giving my friend hickeys is the weirdest thing about this”

Yuji curses under his breath, running a hand over his face.

“So.. what’s— what are we even talking about anymore. I thought you’d want to talk about this?” He cries, sick of this beating around the bush theme going on. The tap turns off.

Megumi steps out, face cleaned up and parts of his hair pushed back from water “what do you think we should be discussing, Itadori?”

Yuji groans, pressing his lips together. He shoves into Megumi’s space, faces so close he had missed it. Now their tension is thick, coated in syrup sweet enough to rot their bones. Yuji doesn’t remember it feeling this electric.

“What do you think, Megumi?” He says, voice low to the tone of their tension. Prodding a finger into Megumi’s broad chest.

He watches Megumi’s eyes widen at the use of his name, then flicker down to his lips; waiting, like before, asking.

“Y-Yuji—”

He pulls Megumi by the hem of his stupid tight shirt that stayed underneath his uniform all day, and crashing their lips together. It’s hurried and full of nerves, Megumi meeting with the same hunger.

Yuji pulls away, grasping a tad tighter at the hem. It’s like something snaps. He can’t get over it, he just kissed him again.

“Fucking hell” Megumi hisses so softly it hurts and crushes the distance again. Eager and nervous all at once. His lips were soft and wet, the feeling was so different and yet so similar to their first; does kissing someone you really like feel like a gift every time? Megumi’s act of surprise and slow control is buzzy. Like trying your favourite food again and again, it’s addicting. Tipping his head to the side, taking Megumi’s bottom heavy lips between his; biting and licking into the seams.

Megumi pulls him to his chest, pressing somehow even closer with a daring part. It’ll slow and quicken with their movements, Megumi dragging the palm of his hands to the tip of his nails over every muscle. Unconditionally cold, Yuji shivers from the touch.

His arms wrap around Megumi’s neck, fingers trailing in dark hair much like the other night.

Yuji gasps as Megumi pushes him backwards, gently colliding with the door. He whines, broken and scratched.

Then he’s whining even more when Megumi pulls away, the smack of their lips electrifies his body.

“Do you know what I said that night?”

Yuji blinks a few times, trying to figure out what's being asked, sorting through his answers, “I only really have one thing to remember Fushiguro” he jokes.

Groaning and not without grinning, Megumi rolls his eyes from the moon and back “I said..” he hesitates. His hands leave Yuji’s waist to cradle his cheeks, soft and delicate.

“I said I want this,” Megumi continued.

Yuji breathes it in, just breathes it all in.

“I want this too”

Their faces inch closer “..I like you”

Yuji smiles, toothy and bright “I like you too. A little too much”

When their eyes meet, he sees it. Feels it. Megumi looks between his honey eyes, searching, and laughs. The sound angelic and raspy, quiet for just between them.

“I think I’ve liked you for ages” Yuji states, playing with the end of Megumi’s shirt. The latter hums, “you think?”

“Who are you and what did you do with the real Fushiguro?”

“You’re a dork” and he kisses him again.

——————-

Laying in Megumi’s bed feels more like his own now. Yuji sits up to rest on his elbows, glancing outside as birds call out, that humid air slowly making its way into afternoon light.

After one mixed up night with wine and another declaring true feelings, Yuji’s heart jumps at every memory, the mind taking every opportunity to remind him of Megumi’s lips and hands and body warmth. Everything about him is heart attack worthy.

The bed is empty, a silhouette slightly printed where Megumi slept and had quietly pulled back the covers. He trickles out of bed, yawning and stretching the tension of his muscles. Without much thought he recovers a t-shirt from the wardrobe, and adjusts his sweats before leaving.

Making his way to the kitchen, he can smell Megumi’s morning coffee brewing, and hear voices hushing. The sun shines bright throughout the room and he notices Nobara sitting at the counter, waving her hands as she talks, then he notices Megumi peeling an apple with a knife in hand, hair all messed up as if he’d been running his hands through it.

Nobara looks woken up, bright as the season and ready to conquer the day. Her cereal is half gone and a hair tie is wrapped around her wrist, hair thrown around her shoulder.

Megumi looks up after taking a sip from his coffee mug sitting hot and steaming by the cutting board. His eyes loosen on their constant scowl. He smiles at him, heart now pumping with this form of excitement, a new stage to their lives. Yuji really, really likes it.

“Hey” Megumi greets him, nodding his head and his words are formed from a smile Yuji can’t stop looking at. It all flows like a starry creek.

Smiling, Yuji responds “Hey” cheeks hurting from the upturn of his lips and he swoops around Nobara, brushing arms with his boyfriend (boyfriend!) and starts making his own breakfast.

A loud gasp is shocked through the air, startling both boys.

“Finally!” She screams, hands clasped in a prayer as if to thank whoever answered her wish.

Yuji slowly puts down a cereal box from the cupboard, getting out a bowl next “good morning?”

“Uh.. what?” Megumi frowns at her, baffled.

“He listened to me! You guys actually handled your feelings, I’m proud”

“He did?”

“I told Itadori to confess his feelings to you or face impending doom"

Megumi raises a brow “..impending doom?”

“How many questions are you going ask” she slumps in her seat.

“She’s not the best wingman” Yuji comments, immediately regretting it.

“Shut up Itadori! You should cover up by the way” she smirks, pointing at her neck to emphasise her point.

He chokes, hands flying to cover his neck, bowl clattering on the table. God dammit this nightmare will never end. He whips his head to glare at her, not without catching sight of Megumi blushing horrifically red.

Well, maybe he should thank Shoko.
