why so lonely?

Summary:

jiung slowly stirred in bed, hungover from the night before, groggy and a little sore. as he attempted to peel his eyes open, he felt something, someone, touching his arm. jiung’s eyes shot open, looking over and seeing keeho laying beside him, his restful expression slightly changing upon sensing movement. “good morning baby…” keeho quietly said, his voice still hoarse from sleep. jiung gasped and almost jumped out of bed at the sight, immediately sitting up and rejecting keeho’s warm touch. “why are you in my room!? and WHERE ARE YOUR CLOTHES?!?” jiung exclaimed. “you took them off of me, don’t you remember?” keeho said, with a playful tone and a wink. “HUH?!?” jiung was stressed.

Work Text:

jiung slowly stirred in bed, hungover from the night before, groggy and a little sore. as he attempted to peel his eyes open, he felt something, someone, touching his arm. jiung’s eyes shot open, looking over and seeing keeho laying beside him, his restful expression slightly changing upon sensing movement. “HUH?!?” jiung was stressed.

keeho sat up, rubbing his eyes. “hm?” the plush white comforter failed to cover his bare muscular chest as he sat up, jiung noticed as his gaze drifted. he swiftly picked a shirt up off the floor and threw it at keeho’s face. “ack!- wait, jiung, do you really not remember anything from last night..?” he asked, slipping his t-shirt on. jiung winced, putting a hand on his head as if it’d ease his now pounding headache. “no i don’t remember!!” as he caught a glimpse of the time displayed on the alarm clock on the bedside, he sighed. “whatever, just, get out and go eat breakfast or something. we don’t have time for this today,” jiung said. why the fuck did i agree to drinking last night… he thought to himself as he sat on the edge of his hotel bed. keeho moved a little closer to jiung. “hey, later i could fill you in on what happened las-“

knock knock!

Shit.

jiung’s heart dropped into his stomach. “quick! hide somewhere they won’t see you!” he urgently whispered, before walking up to the door. he quickly checked the peephole, seeing theo stood there with his arms crossed. taking a deep breath in, jiung opened the door. “hey, you ok in there?” theo asked, his eyes already starting to study jiung. “oh, yeah, everything’s fine- what’s up?” jiung said, hoping and praying that theo wouldn’t notice anything, and that keeho wasn’t doing something stupid behind him. “well, i was just coming to check on you since me and the members were gonna go get breakfast, and you haven’t responded to any of our texts so,” theo continued. “ah, sorry… i haven’t checked my phone yet…” jiung said, rubbing the back of his neck. “‘kay, well we’re heading out now,” theo said, getting ready to walk back down the hallway. “oh, also, do you know where keeho is? we haven’t seen him since earlier last night.”

jiung’s throat went dry right before he spoke. “oh. um. i don’t know, i haven’t seen him either,” he said, his gaze nervously darting around. theo’s eyes narrowed slightly. “mkay… see you later.” jiung made sure that theo had walked far enough away before closing the door, and almost falling to his knees in his hotel room. “he’s gone now,” jiung called out to keeho, wherever he was in the room. he crawled out from under the covers of jiung’s bed, quietly getting up and putting his shoes on. walking past jiung, keeho went to put a hand on his shoulder, but stopped in his tracks the moment they locked eyes; jiung’s gaze cold and piercing. “…see you later,” keeho said, giving a tentative nod as he walked out. “see you,” jiung quietly responded, letting out a deep sigh as soon as the door shut. what the fuck is happening? he shook the thought out of his head. i need to go eat.

walking out into the street outside the hotel lobby, jiung double checked the address that intak had sent to him. the restaurant should be just down the street, right? he squinted, checking the signs visible down the way. ah, there it is! walking into the restaurant, he scanned the dining area for his members, briskly walking over when he finally noticed them. “sorry i’m late, i overslept a little,” jiung said, taking the one empty seat left next to intak and jongseob. “it’s alright! we’re just glad that you made it,” intak said, patting him on the back, eliciting quiet nods from the other members. as jiung listened to theo and intak start to bicker, he looked at keeho. how’d he get out here so fast… he thought. as jiung was pondering, keeho shot a glance back, making jiung immediately clear his throat and look away. fuck… i didn’t realize i was staring… no chill brunch atmosphere could save jiung from himself.

jiung’s food arrived to the table a little bit later than everyone else’s, but he didn’t mind. the sound of dishware clanking and light chatter filled the restaurant. there was a slight lull in the conversation as everyone was preoccupied with their food. “this place is so nice, we should come back here the next time we have a concert nearby,” keeho said. soul nodded next to him, sipping on some juice. “maybe,” theo said, taking another bite of his toast.

“hey jiung-hyung, what’s up with the hickey on your neck?” intak asked. the table was already quiet, but now it was dead silent. jiung almost choked on his tea. “the what on my neck?” he felt himself burn up and turn bright red. “oh yeah, that is a hickey,” theo said as he looked over. “wow, didn’t realize that jiung-hyung had found a special someone,” jongseob said, flashing a smirk. keeho and soul were still silent across the table. “i… don’t know what you guys are talking about…”

jiung felt himself melting under everyone’s intense gazes. he wanted to curl up and hide under the table, or run to the bathroom and cry, or run out of the restaurant into the street. but there’s no way he could do any of that now, it’d only serve to embarrass him more with how many people would see it. intak nudged him with his elbow, just smiling. things had gotten awkward and quiet again, but once plates were starting to get cleared off, normal conversation picked back up again. jiung still couldn’t shake off his deep embarrassment. how did i not notice that i had a hickey visible… the moment kept replaying in his mind, over and over.

once everyone had finished their food, they left the restaurant and split up into various groups. soul and jongseob went to go shop for books and collectibles, keeho and intak went to go to the nearest mall and jiung and theo went to go to some vintage stores. it was a lot of shopping, but they figured that they might as well seize the day if they have nothing else going on.

jiung hummed as he browsed a rack of nice jackets in their first vintage store of the day. honestly, he wasn’t looking for much but everyone else wanted to shop and he didn’t wanna stay cooped up in his room all day, especially not today. he shuddered. “jiung, what do you think of this shirt?” theo held up a t-shirt, it was cute but pretty plain. “mmm, it’s okay,” jiung said, still sorting through jackets. “ooh, this is so your style,” he said, picking out a nice leather jacket and showing it to theo. “oh, that is nice…” he said, inspecting it and draping it over his arm. nearing the end of the rack, jiung noticed a cool denim jacket with some patches on it. taking it over to the nearest mirror and trying it on, he admired the reflection of his find. wow, it fits me perfectly. maybe i should get it… he wondered, returning to where he found the jacket to continue his search for the time being.

sifting through the last few garments, jiung noticed a big letterman jacket. woah, i swear i’ve seen keeho wear that exact jacket before… he thought. jiung sighed, still not feeling very inspired. quickly glancing around the shop a little, the jewelry case off to the side caught his eye. he admired the pretty bracelets and earrings, the colorful beads and stones glowing in the light. looking at the selection of rings, one in particular caught his eye. that looks like the ring i got for keeho. jiung blinked. why do i keep thinking about keeho?! before he could get too hung up on it, theo walked over. “i’m ready to go if you are,” he said. jiung nodded.

the two of them strolled down the street, theo carrying his goods in a few miscellaneous bags. jiung still hadn’t found much though, despite them hitting up a few stores now. all he had gotten for himself so far was a bottle of nice perfume, which he was carrying in its box. “oh, let’s stop in this cafe real quick, i want a drink,” theo said, dragging jiung into the cafe they were walking past. as theo was putting in his order, jiung sat at a little table in the corner. he watched as theo stood waiting at the counter for his drink to be ready. resting his eyes for a moment, he could feel himself almost start to drift off.

“ugh, i hope it doesn’t rain on us while we’re still out,” theo said, sitting down across from jiung, hot drink in hand. “did you want anything from here? sorry, forgot to ask,” he inquired. jiung shook his head, finally getting his eyes open again. “no, it’s fine,” he yawned. “alright, just checking,” theo said, loudly sipping his beverage. “you okay? you’ve been kinda out of it today,” he said. “i’ve just been tired, and i’ve had a headache since i woke up,” jiung said. “oh, okay. did you drink too much last night? well- we all drank too much last night.” theo laughed. “i guess… i barely remember anything,” jiung groaned. “really?” theo tilted his head.

“i remember dinner and that we were drinking then, i remember heading back to the hotel and drinking more with everyone there, but everything after that is fuzzy at best,” jiung continued. theo looked puzzled. “you didn’t seem that drunk last night…” he thought out loud. jiung just shrugged. “you and keeho had a lot of fun last night though,” theo said, jiung immediately burning up and widening his eyes at the implication. “you guys are really funny when you get all fired up like that. it really makes games fun,” he continued. the tension in jiung’s shoulders released when he realized that theo wasn’t talking about him and keeho’s little sleepover. “i wonder what him and intak are up to right now,” theo pondered. “who knows.” jiung scoffed.

after their fairly successful afternoon out on the town, jiung and theo eventually parted ways. theo went to go meet back up with keeho and intak, and jiung went back to the hotel alone, his fatigue and aches finally catching up to him as he collapsed onto his bed. as he lay there on his side, he stared out the window across from him. it wasn’t a marvelous view or anything, but the sight of all the tall buildings against the misty gray sky was nice nonetheless. jiung slowly started to drift off to the gentle pitter-patter of rain against the window.

jiung awoke with a gasp, not knowing where he was for a moment, feeling his phone vibrate in his pocket. he sat up, placing a hand over his heart to keep it from beating out of his chest. he had no idea what time it was; the hotel room was completely dark except for the sliver of light coming in from the hallway, and the glow of the cityscape outside the window. the sky which was once a light overcast gray was now a deep charcoal shade, with fluffy rain clouds still rolling through. turning the bedside light on, jiung pulled his phone out of his pocket, checking his notifications.

intak: 2 new messages

we’re getting dinner

you coming?

intak: 2 missed calls

theo: 1 missed call

jiung rubbed his sunken eyes, typing a quick response.

sorry, didn’t see this til now

i’ll just get my own food

after quickly ordering a meal for himself to be delivered, he yawned, throwing his phone down onto the bed and heading into the bathroom. flashing the light on, he went straight to the shower to heat up the water. as the water started to run, jiung stood there and finally got a good look at himself in the mirror. i’m a mess. his skin hasn’t been amazing lately, and he hasn’t had any makeup on to cover it up today. and it turns out, he really does have a hickey on his neck. he touched it in disbelief, feeling butterflies in his stomach just thinking about it. oh- the water should be good now. he thought, stripping down and getting in the shower, letting the steam cleanse him.

walking out of the bathroom in his cute white and baby blue striped pajama set, he heard a knock on the door. perfect timing! after quickly poking his head out and grabbing his food, he sat down cross-legged on his bed, turning the tv on and channel surfing while he started to eat. settling for some generic melodramatic movie, jiung continued working on his meal. he was tuning in a decent way into the movie, but he could still generally tell what was happening. the leading lady and her love interest were having a falling out, and she seemed clearly sad and unsatisfied. by the time he was done with his food, the love interest was showing up at her doorstep in the rain, begging for her forgiveness.

jiung rolled his eyes at how cliché and played out it was, but still didn’t make an effort to change the channel. with the amateur dialogue playing in the background, he started to clean up his room a little since it had gotten thrown into minor disarray the night prior. “seriously, i’m not drinking like that again,” he declared as he remade his messy bed. he fully opened the heavy curtains, and turned all the lights off except for a dim lamp in the corner. jiung cozied himself back into his bed, the soft comforter gently enveloping him. the artificial glow of the tv in front of him illuminated the room.

“and that’s when i realized that… i can’t live without you, yoona…” the love interest said, his voice quivering. yoona turned her tear-ridden face away from him, starting to walk away, before getting grabbed by the arm and pulled into his tight embrace. what would i do if i was in yoona’s position? jiung wondered, trying to come up with something more interesting to think about. yoona and the brooding love interest kissed, finally having their moment. he sighed. i guess i have felt a little lonely lately… he thought to himself as the two on screen kept kissing, the mood getting slightly steamier as it continued.

being so busy with work, practice, touring, etc. jiung really hadn’t had much time to think about romance and relationships, let alone act on anything. unless jokingly flirting with his members counted as something. and it was always a joke- well, except for how he really does think his members are attractive. not all in the same way, but he doesn’t lie in his flattery. they're all charming, but i don’t know that there’s anyone i’d want to be with, he thought. maybe keeho if i had to pick. i’ve known him for the longest, he’s kind, and silly and handsome… wait, slow down. they’re still my members though. i can’t just go messing around with them like that. it’s too risky. jiung had zoned out and had missed quite a few minutes of his movie. oh well… he checked his phone for the time. 8:47pm. he let the screen go dark, and grabbed the remote on the bedside, turning the television off. he had been bored of the movie since he saw the title while browsing.

standing in front of the bathroom mirror again, jiung brushed his teeth, the minty toothpaste overwhelming his senses. after spitting and putting his toothbrush away, he decided to pick out a hydrating face mask to wear for the next while. i could use it, he thought. as he carefully applied the cooling mask, he caught a glimpse of his nails. a lot of my nail polish came off yesterday… his once pristine black manicure was now very chipped. a few of his nails barely even had any polish left on them at all.

jiung always looked a little silly with these face masks on, but they felt good and really did help his skin. sitting back down on his bed, he checked his phone. intak had already sent him a few instagram reels, a nightly ritual for him now, even after long days. jiung wondered why he keeps sending them to everyone when he barely gets any responses. after scrolling for a little while, he decided to take a quick picture to post on his story: a super close up shot of his eye, the face mask he’s wearing visible. he decorated the story with a few stickers and a silly audio, pressing post and feeling quite satisfied with himself.

knock knock!

the noise startled jiung. ugh, what does intak want this time… he quickly took his now dry face mask off, throwing it in the bathroom trash can as he walked past. swiftly opening the door, jiung was stunned when he saw keeho stood in front of him in his pajamas and slippers. “hey, can i come in?” he asked, breaking the silence. jiung snapped out of it. “yeah.” he nodded, holding the door open for keeho. walking in behind him, jiung closed the layer of flowy white curtains, leaving the blackout layer open. sitting down on the edge of his bed, jiung turned the bedside light back on. “so, why are you here?” he asked as keeho sat down beside him. “do i have to have a reason?” keeho teased. “kidding, i just wanted to check on you.” he smiled.

“how was dinner?” jiung asked. “it was fine. the food was good, but otherwise you didn’t miss anything,” keeho said. “shopping with intak earlier was fun though. the mall we went to was surprisingly busy, but we still got what we were looking for,” he continued. “good. i’m glad,” jiung said. “wait, look at this though,” keeho said, pulling something up on his phone. “look at these photobooth pictures of me and intak,” he said, cracking up while showing the silly photos to jiung. “you guys are cute.” jiung giggled. “i know, right?” keeho said, setting his phone down on the bed. “how was shopping with theo?” he asked. “mmm, it was okay. i didn’t really get anything, but theo found all that he was looking for,” jiung said, picking at his nail polish as he spoke. “ah, well that’s good,” keeho said. “hey, um, i did have something i wanted to talk about while i’m here,” he continued.

“hm?” jiung looked back up at him. “it’s about last night, i… i’m sorry,” he said. “about what?” jiung tilted his head. “i didn’t realize that you were that drunk, i mean, i was drunk too but… i didn’t mean to do anything to you in that state, i just didn’t know, i was being stupid,” keeho rambled on. “what happened?” jiung asked, wondering if he even wants to know at this point. keeho took a deep breath. “well, after the group dinner, everyone came back to the hotel and drank more, and after doing that together for a while and playing games and whatever, the two of us came back here and…” he cleared his throat. “um.. well, earlier when we were playing games as a group, theo and intak dared us to kiss each other, so when we came back here we just… picked back up where we left off,” keeho finished, avoiding eye contact.

jiung’s heart was beating out of his chest again. jiung would be the first person to admit that oftentimes, keeho effortlessly brings out the worst in him, but this was an all time low. no petty argument aftermath they’ve had could ever compare to the shame he felt bubbling inside of him in this moment. “again, i’m so sorry!!” keeho said, clasping his hands together and fully bowing to jiung, well, as much as he could while still sitting on the bed. jiung couldn’t help but crack a little smile before sighing. keeho peered up at him with big hopeful eyes, making jiung turn away in embarrassment. “stop looking at me like that,” he scoffed. “like what?” keeho asked with a faux-innocence, inching closer to jiung. “don’t play dumb with me, yoon keeho.” he glared at him. keeho just laughed.

jiung always thought keeho’s smile shined the brightest out of all the members. he’s glowing in this light… “you stop looking at me like that!” keeho said, leaning back a little and hiding his smile behind his hand. “someone’s blushing,” jiung teased. “now you’re just imagining things,” keeho quipped. jiung just rolled his eyes. keeho leaned back in closer, brushing aside a misplaced strand of jiung’s hair. “you look so pretty like this,” he whispered. jiung swallowed hard, he wasn’t expecting such a straightforward compliment from him. “oh yeah?” he said, his voice low. keeho nodded. “do you like it when i call you pretty, jiung?” he asked.

“maybe.” jiung smirked. “why do you wanna know?” he asked, raising an eyebrow. keeho gazed into jiung’s dark eyes. “maybe i just wanna tease you.” jiung glanced at keeho’s glossy pink lips, just a few inches away from his. “don’t you already tease me enough? you’re insatiable,” he said. keeho smiled. “so? it’s fun,” he said. “you’re just too cute not to tease.” jiung was trying his hardest to stay strong and steady out his breathing. what’s gotten into me? he didn’t know that keeho’s flirting could have such an effect on him; the adrenaline felt as electrifying as it does when he performs on stage.

“look what you did to me,” jiung said, pointing to the dark hickey on his neck. “hm? oh, i’m sorry baby.” keeho traced his fingers over the mark. jiung whined at his delicate touch, his body reacting to keeho before his mind can even process anything. “i got you good, huh.” keeho giggled. “you can’t just go around leaving hickeys all over me, and calling me ‘baby’, and..!!” jiung paused, and took a deep breath. “it’s what you want, isn’t it?” keeho asked. a frown formed on jiung’s face. “what would the members think? our families? keeho…” there was silence for a moment.

keeho held jiung’s hand. “i don’t know everything, but i don’t think that they would care. honestly, at least with the members, i think they’d have more of a problem with us being weird and repressing our feelings, rather than us doing something about it,” he said. jiung relaxed his shoulders a little, feeling torn. “we don’t have to figure it out right now. it’s okay,” keeho assured him, squeezing his hand. “you’re right.” jiung resigned. the sound of rain pouring outside his shrouded window grounded him.

catching a glimpse of the time, keeho sighed, standing up. “it’s getting late, i should-“ “don’t go. please.” immediately after jiung said it, he cringed internally at how desperate he sounded. keeho’s eyes widened in shock, a faint smile creeping across his face. “okay. i’ll stay then.” he sat back down beside jiung, assuming a more relaxed position. a slightly awkward silence had started to form.

“your hair looks nice,” jiung blurted out.

god, i’m so stupid…

keeho burst into laughter. “suddenly?” he said through giggles. “it’s true!! it looks nice like this,” jiung said, exasperated. keeho’s hair was just plain black, and his bangs were pretty grown out, the ends grazing his eyelashes. “you think it makes me look handsome?” he joked. “i think you’re already very handsome,” jiung said matter-of-factly. “oooooh, jiung!!” keeho was beaming. “i think you’re very handsome too,” he said, brushing a thumb over jiung’s rosy cheek. jiung’s heart couldn’t take it anymore.

our faces are so close… “keeho…” their gazes intertwined, their breathing in sync. jiung’s worries melted away as their lips met. in contrast to the intensity in keeho’s eyes in the moment before, his plush lips were so gentle, moving slowly against jiung’s. he wrapped his arms around keeho’s neck, pulling him closer. jiung could feel keeho smirking against his lips, slipping his hands under his shirt, caressing his bare waist. his hands are so warm… the intimate touch sent chills down jiung’s spine. keeho gently pushed jiung down flat onto the bed, making himself comfortable on top of him. he pulled away and peppered kisses along jiung’s jaw, and down his neck. “ah- fuck…” he squirmed under keeho. “ngh… don’t leave another hickey,” he whined.

“it’s a little too late for that…” jiung gasped. “KEEHO!!” he was mortified, covering his abused neck with his hand. “i’m joking! i’m joking! i didn’t leave another hickey, i swear!!” keeho pleaded. “don’t mess with me like that!” jiung slapped keeho’s chest. “ow… i’m sorry babe, i’m sorry,” keeho said, still giggling. jiung could feel himself burning up out of embarrassment again. keeho hummed, cupping his face in his hands. “cutie…” jiung sighed, still hesitant to accept keeho’s doting, even after all these years.

resting a hand on the back of keeho’s neck, jiung pulled him back in for another kiss. it was a little rougher this time, sure to leave their lips swollen afterwards. he felt up keeho’s muscular back, pulling up the back of his t-shirt as he went. breaking the kiss, keeho sat back up while straddling jiung, pulling his shirt off in one swift motion. jiung stared up at him, intently studying every inch of keeho’s body he could see, trying to permanently burn the image into his mind.

has he always looked this good?

he mindlessly bit his lip. he knew keeho had a handsome face, and a nice body, but something felt different about him this time. maybe it was just how horny the both of them were. “my eyes are up here, pervert.” keeho couldn’t help but crack a smile at jiung’s desperate ogling. he leaned back down, his delicate silver cross necklace dangling in front of jiung’s face. he still couldn’t get used to the feeling of kissing keeho.

what if i’m still asleep and this is all just a crazy dream? he thought, swiping his tongue over keeho’s lips, getting a taste of his lip balm before his mouth welcomed jiung’s warmth. so sweet… softly caressing his neck, jiung swore he could hear keeho moan into his mouth. his tongue was so soft, and warm. all of keeho was so warm. despite the air in the room being cool and pleasant, jiung was sweating with keeho on top of him. he was already always pretty warm, but in this moment it felt like he was jiung’s personal human-sized heater.

keeho pulled away, kissing down jiung’s neck again. his lips traveling lower, across his shoulder and collarbone as he unbuttoned jiung’s shirt. as each button was undone, he felt the cold air graze him more and more, goosebumps spreading across his sensitive skin. keeho pulled the front of jiung’s shirt open now that it was unbuttoned, pressing soft kisses down his chest, to his waistband. he paid special attention to his tattoos, kissing each butterfly adorning jiung’s stomach. the delicate touch made jiung’s back arch off the bed. “keeho,” he breathed out.

“hmm?” keeho nestled his face into the crook of jiung’s neck. “mmmm, you smell good,” he said, planting another kiss onto his shoulder. jiung hummed. “it’s my new perfume.” keeho climbed off of jiung, laying on his side next to him, their limbs still entangled. “i like it,” he said, studying jiung’s face as he stared at the ceiling. “yeah…” he was deep in thought. keeho carefully traced his tattoos with his fingers.

“are you gonna go back to your room?” jiung asked quietly. “do you want me to?” keeho questioned. “i… don’t know,” jiung said, his mind still buzzing with excitement and doubt as they lay together. before keeho could respond, they heard his phone vibrating at the foot of the bed. sitting up and reaching over, he checked the caller id. “hang on, it’s theo,” he said as he picked up the phone. “hello? oh yeah, i’m hanging out with him right now,” keeho said, glancing at jiung as he spoke. “yeah yeah, we’ll be there in a minute,” he continued.

jiung could barely make out what theo was saying on the other end, only catching a few words here and there. “theo!!!” keeho yelled, exasperated, blushing profusely. “oh my god, i hate you…” jiung just stared up at him, puzzled. “yes, okay, see you,” he finished, hanging up and sighing. “what was that about..?” jiung asked. “oh, he just wanted us to come over and do a little livestream since we didn’t do one last night,” keeho said, rubbing his eyes.

that doesn’t exactly explain that reaction… jiung thought to himself, deciding to just let it go this time. “oh, okay, sure,” he said, getting up and grabbing a hoodie to put on for a little more coverage. as keeho pulled his t-shirt back on, he quickly went up behind jiung, grabbing him by the waist. “ack!- keeho,” he groaned in frustration. keeho just laughed. “save your little games for the camera,” jiung said, rolling his eyes as he stepped into his slippers. “whatever.” keeho dramatically sighed, leaning over and grabbing one of jiung’s discarded zip-up hoodies to throw on. “hey, that’s mine!” jiung protested, keeho just sticking his tongue out in response. interlocking fingers, keeho dragged jiung by the hand out into the hotel hallway. “come on, let’s go.”
