Work Text:
Ever since Gangle got stuck in the living hell known as The Circus, she'd always had certain feelings towards the ragdoll.
She didn't know what made Ragatha so attractive to her, whether it was her politeness, her friendliness or even a physical feature like her button eye or curly red hair that looked as if it were made of twisted pipe cleaners.
She had to keep it a secret for a while so she would have enough time to make sure she was ready; but months (or years, Gangle still wasn't quite sure how time worked in here), passed and it was finally the perfect moment.
Caine was in his office, Kinger was in his "impenetrable fortress", Pomni was still recovering from the last adventure in her room, Zooble was at the cafe and Jax was standing in the hallway, staring directly at a door with a frogs face that Gangle couldn't recognise.
So that left just Ragatha and Gangle alone after they'd returned from an adventure and hadn't left the main area yet.
Gangle could feel her palms (were they palms? She didn't really have what looked like "hands" as much as arm shaped ribbons) sweating as she looked up at the taller woman. Despite reading plenty of webcomics with the exact premise, she'd never actually asked someone out before, and with this being her first time, she was pretty anxious.
"Can– can I talk to you for a second?" Her voice came out even more high pitched and squeaky than usual, like one of those toys for dogs to chew on. F&@$, she knew Ragatha could tell how worried she was.
"Of course! What would you like to talk about?" Came the cheery response, a warm smile on her knitted face.
"I was– I was just wondering if– if maybe you'd... you'dwanttogooutwithme..?" Gangle whispered the last part so quiet that not even Caines all seeing eyes heard her.
"Sorry, could you please speak up a little? I couldn't quite make out that last part." Ragatha asked warmly.
Gangle felt her mask warm where her cheeks would have been if she still had a human face. She was starting to regret doing this. What if she didn't like her that way? What if she messed up? What if she made it weird and was forced to live in the same circus with her for years while sharing awkward looks at each other for all eternity until they abstracted‽
"I– I was wondering if... if you'd maybe want to- to go out with me some time soon..?" She was still quiet this time, but at least it was audible this time.
"Oh! Uh,"
The second thise words left Ragathas mouth, Gangles heart sank. She felt pathetic, no, she was pathetic; for crushing on someone who doesn't even love her back, for telling someone she has feelings for them without them feeling the same way, for-
"O– of course! I thought you'd never ask!"
And when those words hit her, despite wearing her tragedy mask, a smile spread across her face.
