I would be doing this a lot differently. Honestly, I think you outta listen to me more.
Kris shook their head and walked faster. "You keep getting me into endless messes. Is your goal to just constantly embarrass me?"
Sweetheart, you do that all on your own. What was that back there?
They thought back to what exactly they were running away from.
Susie and them were at the schools playground, empty of course. The security lights from the school casted the brightly colored playground in harsh shadows and the droning sound of cicadas has been giving Kris a headache.
"And then I ate the whole thing in one bite! You should have seen MK's face!" Susie's booming laugh echoed around the enclosed plastic jungle gym the two had squeezed themself into.
How much longer are you two going to be out here in this freezing weather? As entertaining as it is to watch y'alls flirting, ITS COLD! And if you get sick, I get sick.
"Fuck off, it's not even that cold." Kris though. And they were only half lying. They'd be okay with getting sick if they got to stay out with Susie. Although they had definitely picked an interesting hang out spot this time.
It was cramped for sure, meant for much smaller children than the two teenagers. Susie took up much more room than Kris but they didn't mind. It was cold that night anyways, the two of them bundled in heavier coats and jackets than their usual oversized outerwear. Susie's body heat warmed Kris up the most though. Maybe that's why they were pressed so close together, sitting across from each over but limbs crossing over each other in every direction. It was because it was cold. No other reason.
Kris chuckled softly and sat up a bit straighter, pulling their knees to their chest. "So that's why your breath stinks so bad today," they said flatly.
"Does not!" She shoved them roughly, almost knocking them over.
Barf!
Kris yanked their hand out of their pocket and slammed it down on the cold plastic to steady themself. "Well, worst than usual." they shot back, a faint cheeky smile speading across their lips; chapped from the dry winter air.
Susie leaned forward, somehow managing slinging an arm around Kris's shoulder. "First I'm hearing about it. Why didn't you tell me before, asshole. Aren't you supposed to be my friend? But really," She leaned her face in closer, the cloud of her breath warming the air around Kris's face. "Is it thaaattt bad?" She exhaled loudly, slightly blowing Kris's bangs away from their face.
They pressed their back hard against the plastic enclosure and tried to push their knees away from their chest. They were suddenly dizzy and didn't know why, and their face felt so so hot. Wasn't it just so cold?
Hey, Kris. Heartbeats going a little fast now.. Huh. Wonder why that is!
Kris ignored them, shaking their head quickly to try to get that voice further away. (Not that that had ever worked before).
"Susie you're crushing me, you giant lizard!" Kris struggled to push away from Susie, who's head was chasing them every time they tried to move away. "You're gonna kill me with your deadly breath!" Kris's laughter was starting to get to a delerious point. There was usually a point like that each night when Susie and Kris were hanging out late. Everything was suddenly the funniest joke they'd ever heard, and their already low shared intelligence dwindled even lower.
The two were now nearly tangled together, which was not uncomfortable but it should have been. Kris laid on their back, squeezing their stomach as laughter shook their chest. YOU leapt, seemingly not enjoying being josseled around all of a sudden.
Watch it!
Susie was in full Suziezilla mode, leaning over Kris, arms curled out infront of her. "You shouldn't be laughing! You're going down, Dreemurr!" She roared with a wide smile showing all her teeth.
Starting to become short of breath, Kris pushing themself up on one of their arms. Their laughs turning into coughing and wheezing.
Then it was Susie's turn to laugh. "Haha, defeated." she sang triumphantly, but then suddenly dropped nearly all her weight on Kris, her large head laying on their chest with a prideful glint in her eyes.
"It this a kind thing to do to someone who is hyperventilating?" They complained hoarsely, unable to move.
You arent hyperventilatin-
"You aren't hyperventilating dumbass. God, so dramatic!" She snickered, looking down her snout at them. She did lift her head off their chest though, rolling her eyes.
The human took a unnecessarily large breath. "Thank you." They muttered, sneering. They let their breath settle before tilting their head to meet Susie's eyes.
Her face was a lot closer than she needed to be. Well.. none of this was really nessecary to begin with. And Susie had been up in Kris's face earlier, but now she was looking at them differently. Susie's often looked like she was ready to jump to the next thing whenever necessary. Always expectant, always hyper-vigilant, thoughts racing at mock speed. Kris loved to watch ever tiny micro expression light up her face to reflect what was going on inside her head. But right then- right then she was just still. Just looking down at them, pupils dilated and unmoving; locked onto Kris's. Not turning her head, she brought up one of her arms to the space beside Kris's side, leaning less on them.
Kris thought that i'd be easier to breath but it wasn't. "Stop looking at me like that. You're creeping me out." They murmured, furrowing their brows.
Susie blinked hard and cleared her throat. "Uh- my bad dude. Guess I was still Susiezilla or something." she said, but she was still so close. And she was still just staring into their eyes. It felt like YOU was even starting to feel restless.
Looks like the perfect moment. I say do it.
"Susie.." Kris felt themself lean in closer, and so did Susie. It wasn't YOU's doing, as much as Kris wanted to blame it for this. Kris's own thoughts of panic screaming in their head. They didn't understand, what had suddenly changed? Was it them, or was it Susie too? She wasn't even looking at them anymore her eyes were closed. Kris felt their eyelids getting heavier and nearly gave in.
Painfully frantic, Kris managed to squeezed themself from under Susie and rolled away from her, refusing to looking at her. They pressed a hand to their cheek and could image how red their face probably was.
I gotta get out of here.
"Kris- hey, wait!" Susie tried to grab onto Kris's sleeve, equally flustered and confused. They managed to slip away from her grasp and hurled themself down the playground slide.
And they fumble the bag again, ladies and gentlemen!
"Dude! If you were about to kiss me you better get your ass back up here!" Kris heard her yell as they scrambled to get a footing in the tiny peddles underfoot.
"My- my mom wants me home! It's late!" They called up to her, not turning around the face her. "Goodnight!" and they were gone.
Remind me why you ran almost all the way home. It's not like she was following you. We both know you're not in shape for allat.
"I don't wanna talk about it!" Kris thought, shoving their hands in their pockets and shaking their head.
But I want to, YOU grumbled. I just don't get you Kris. You like her, why didn't you kiss her? She wanted to-
"There's no way. Why would she want to do that??"
I already told you! As your honary SOUL, I see these things . I know more than you. She liked you, believe me! You said flatly.
"Yeah, some help you are. Shut up." Kris muttered as they opened the front door to their house and slammed it shut behind them, grumbling something under their breath.
Teenagers. So controlling..
