We really should be more carful

Summary:

Lieutenant Kelly finds out the relationship between Warwick and Carrie

Work Text:

“Where to today, Lieutenant?” Asked Warwick as he looked up at Kelly. Kelly looked down at the group of four men. Warwick at the front, Carrie right behind him, and then Monroe and Mophead next to each other at the back of the group.

“Infantry, black alley. Same place as last time.” She responded. Warwick gave her a polite nod before walking to that direction, Kelly watched on as his group following close behind him, carrie jogging a couple steps to be walking beside Warwick.

“Nice, secluded little place. Love that spot, eh Wick?” Said Carrie, glancing up at his superior.

“Yeah. Not many people come by. If so, it’s only the occasional mail boy.” Replied Warwick. After that, the group had walked to far away for Kelly to overhear, but she did see Carrie turning his head to look at Warwick, chuckling, and Warwick patting carries shoulder. Her attention was quickly snapped back to the next group that was waiting to be assigned their place.

The pit they were in was surprisingly dry since it had not rained in a bit, there were a couple of empty crates and two foxholes in the sides. Mophead and Monroe decided to sit on the ground, leaned against the dirt wall, while Warwick and Carrie sat on the crates. The last couple days in the trenches had been slow. There had been no action, both sides just waiting for the other to make a first move, so they guessed today would be the same.

The last few weeks the four men had been regrouped together, they had gotten pretty comfortable with each other , even Mophead wasn’t as anxious and jittery around the group as before. Although, Warwick and Carrie had always been close. They’ve known each other in the early stages of the war, being in the same platoon, it’s no surprise they were closest with each other, always seen together, in the dining hall, in the barracks, and of course, in the trenches, even getting somewhat emotional when the other died even with the knowledge they would be put through the rezzer. It was no surprise they’d start falling for one another.

“Oi, give me a light, luv.” Said Carrie as he put his cigarette to his mouth, clamping down on it with his teeth

“Here” said Warwick, Carrie leaned into Warwicks open flamed lighter that he had offered.

“‘Luv’?” Sprung out Kelly’s deep voice from the entrance of the pit they were in. After assigning the platoons to their pits, she had decided to pay Warwicks group a visit. “Who you calling that, lover boy?”

Carries heart dropped. Both him and Warwick snapped their heads to look at their lieutenant, carries eye wide open and Warwicks mouth slightly agape. Monroe and Mophead had also looked up at the voice, the both of them glancing at each other, not knowing if things were going to take a turn for the worse.

“Ah- lieutenant, I-“ Carrie quickly stood up, starting his sentence, but was interrupted by Kelly’s laugh.

“Ha, save your breath, private. I already know who it is.” Both Carrie and Warwick glanced at each other. They were fucked, they were sure of that. It was scandalous enough for two soldiers of the same platoon to be in a relationship with each other, but it being two men? Warwick could loose his position as Sargent, the two could be kicked out of the military, sent off to prison, or worse (depending on who’s asking) be executed, and the people doing wet work using your body parts as scrap pieces for other dead soldiers to be rezzer back to life. The two looked back at Kelly, not knowing what to expect.

“Cmon, lads. I’m only teasing. I won’t tell anyone.” Kelly says before turning around and starting to walk away.

“Phew, think I almost had a heart attack..” said Warwick with a huge sigh of relief, which Kelly heard, and chuckled.

“Yeah. I think you guys really should be more carful about this next time. Especially out in the open like this. “Spoke Mophead from their place on the ground, Monroe nodding in agreement. Carrie let out a hum while Warwick responded.

“We really should.”
