“There?”
“Just a little closer, I think.”
The two voices kept it to no higher than a whisper, carefully adjusting the sofa until it sat just in front of the fireplace.
Close enough that the heat could gently warm them, but not too intense that it would be unpleasant.
Wordlessly, Black Sapphire added another log to the crackling flame, brushing his hands off and stretching his arms far above his head with a yawn.
Shadow Milk followed with a yawn of his own, settling down on the sofa just beside a bundled-up parcel of blond.
He sighed contently, leaning back into the cushions and letting his hand rest on the others head, running a hand through those golden locks as he watched as the orange glow of the fire scatter through the strands.
Black Sapphire settled down on the other end of the sofa, slightly pressed against the armrest as Pure Vanilla took up most of the length. Unsatisfied with how little room he was given, he shifted his hands to carefully grip the others feet through the blanket. Gently, he gathered the others ankles and tucked his legs, taking him deeper into a curled position to allow for some more room for himself to sit properly.
He was met with the slightest of protests, a small whine coming from the others mouth at the mild disturbance. Black Sapphire felt the corners of his lips rise slightly, a small huff escaping him as he sank back into the cushions himself.
He sighed contentedly, lidding his gaze slightly as he absently watched the flames in front of him with his arms lounging over the back rest, enjoying the atmosphere that this house brought.
The crackling of fire filled the room- one which he was so fond visiting from time to time.
When, of course, the opportunity so presented itself.
The body beside his adjusted, stretching both his legs and arms out and turning over to face the fireplace, eyelids still shut as he let out a soft exhale.
Black Sapphire looked down in surprise, now seeing that his lap was being half-occupied by Pure Vanilla, while his other half was currently occupying Shadow Milk’s very lap.
Looking up slightly, he could see that Shadow Milk was having the same realisation as him, both sharing a soft snort of amusement before their hands both joined in at stroking that soft, blond hair.
Black Sapphire looked up, shooting him a glare, silently asking him to take his fingers off of that hair. Shadow Milk returned the glare in full, taking the opportunity to push Black Sapphires off himself.
Their fingers fought with each other for claim over the scalp, trying to stay as silent as possible while maintaining their non-verbal argument over who got to pat Pure Vanilla. Black Sapphire nearly won, before Shadow Milk snatched his wrist away himself, holding it up high above his head.
Black Sapphire scowled, trying to tug it out of his grip, beginning to feel himself lean precariously over Pure Vanilla’s sleeping form as his wrist was dragged higher up and further away. Finding himself losing balance, he braced his other arm on Shadow Milk’s shoulder as he was pulled up to his knees to free his wrist.
“Unhand me- you’re going to wake up Nilla.” He hissed, keeping his voice as quiet as he could manage while getting his words out.
“Nuh-uh.”
Shadow Milk twisted his own arm behind him, pulling Black Sapphire even further towards him. Nearly losing his balance, Black Sapphire was made to take his knees either side of Pure Vanilla as he battled for his claim for his wrist back.
He gave one more tug, yet was interrupted when he felt a hand settle at his waist, giving a small pressure of its own to encourage him closer.
“Shadow Milk?” He whispered, confusedly.
He was answered with a mischievous smile, and a lidded gaze whos’ pupils flicked between his lips and his eyes.
“Gods, you’re insufferable…” He sighed, allowing himself to be drawn closer as his wrist was finally released, taking it to brace on the other shoulder as another hand joined his waist.
One last eyeroll from Black Sapphire, and Shadow Milk came forward to pepper his lips and cheek with brief kisses. Sighing, Black Sapphire tilted his head up, allowing for the other to access his neck.
Shadow Milk nuzzled against his neck, opting to kiss and nibble marks into the others collarbone, bringing a finger up to slide the fabric aside. The other hummed in satisfaction, prompting him to bring his hands to kneed at his hips while he brought his kisses back up to the others face.
Meeting his mouth, Shadow Milk gave a small nip to the lower lip, silently requesting the other open his mouth. Black Sapphire tutted, leaning his head back with “No, don’t feel like it...” before wrapping his arms around the others neck and pulling himself into a hug.
A hug in which he forgot there was a person underneath him, which he was quickly reminded of when he sunk his weight down onto said person and got a muffled squeal in response.
Shadow Milk blinked, before realising Pure Vanilla was quite literally getting squished by Black Sapphire, and using the hands at the Black Sapphire’s hips he lifted him high enough to give the blond some space.
Black Sapphire unwrapped his arms and shuffled backwards on the sofa, arms on either side of Pure Vanilla as he looked down on the half-asleep mess below him.
“Nilly? You alright?” He asked.
He received a slow blink in response, a short “Uh.” of affirmation, before the other immediately conked out again onto Shadow Milk’s lap.
Black Sapphire sighed in satisfaction, leaning down and pressing a kiss onto the star of the others forehead before moving his arms to lift the other up slightly.
Pure Vanilla was seated upright on the sofa, still unresponsive to Black Sapphire’s readjustments to his figure. His hair was swept behind his ear, before one last kiss was pressed to his cheek before Black Sapphire turned back to Shadow Milk.
Shadow Milk yawned, spreading his legs out slightly and patting his lap in invitation. Black Sapphire took a seat, facing away and avoiding eyecontact, simply hoping that the other would pick up on the fact he only wanted to fall asleep while watching the fire together.
To which, Shadow Milk intended to do, but not without a few more kisses to the others cheek.
Black Sapphire allowed it, leaning back onto the other, letting his eyes drift shut while the other rested his face at the crook of his neck.
The sound of fire snapping gradually faded out, leaving only the snoring sounds of Black Sapphire and the soft snoozing coming from Pure Vanilla, as Shadow Milk continued to watch the dying fire through his languid gaze.
Sleeping was stupid, anyways.
When was the last time he’d gotten a full nights rest?
He wished he’d had his pen with him. That way he could at least spend his hours lost to insomnia on writing his short stories instead of just watching the others get their nine hours.
At some point, the weight holding him down became heavier. Shadow Milk peered over, taking a look at the cause of extra pressure.
A short mop of blond hair leaned against a collapsed Black Sapphire, a small string of drool hanging out from his mouth.
Shadow Milk scoffed, taking an arm away from holding Black Sapphire and snaking it around to hold the other as well, drawing him closer and sardining the group even tighter together.
He let out a contended sigh and turned back to the fire, watching the pops of ash coming from the now smouldering wood.
He should be used to it by now.
In fact, he almost could say that he was.
He’d almost come to peace with it, too. Accepted the fact that the past couldn’t change and that he was in far too deep to tell Pure Vanilla now.
Accepted that the cavity in his stomach growing every time he saw Pure Vanilla was just an unavoidable cost.
He’d even reasoned with himself that she was only one of his many victims. It was silly to be caught up on the specifics, like how killing her felt a little less detached than usual. Or the fact he had to do her in with a rock.
And it was necessary. Justified. Or at least, understandable.
Anyone would understand. Pure Vanilla would, too, understand why he kept it a secret.
And surely Pure Vanilla would understand that her death wasn't in vain- heck, Pure Vanilla would never be friends with them if not for her death. That had to account for something.
It certainly meant a lot to him...
He sighed, closing his eyes and leaning back into the cushions.
This was stupid. Everything was stupid
Lying had always been so easy for him, so why did keeping this one have to be so hard...
