Work Text:
WE WISH WE WERE REAL.
How many times has he said this? Seek doesn’t need to read the pop-up to know what it entails. Truthfully, they can hardly even remember what they usually said to that. Maybe they just left him on read after a while, but they don’t need to say a word after all as another pop-up from him appears.
WE’RE SORRY WE CAN’T COME OUT OF THE SCREEN.
“Why do you feel this need to apologize…?” Seek mumbles. “You have no control over that. It’s pointless to say you’re sorry.”
The next pop-up’s arrival is delayed. Seek considers changing the subject in the downtime, but the reply comes before they can.
FOR SO LONG WE’VE BEEN SO DRAINED. WE JUST WANT TO FALL INTO YOUR ARMS ONE OF THESE DAYS. The strength of which he grips his sword fluctuates. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HELD SOMEONE? DON’T YOU WANT IT TO BE US, TOO?
“That doesn’t matter, and it never will,” they squint, gaze slowly becoming more and more unreadable. “I’ll boil your flesh as soon as I touch it.”
BUT OUR FLESH WILL BE REAL?
The words can’t help but make their head suddenly hurt violently, their voice containing a light hiss that wasn’t there before. “Look, I’m just as wearied as you are-”
SO WE DON’T SEE A PROBLEM. PLEASE, SEEK, JUST WHY CAN’T YOU CONSIDER THAT?
“RANSOM, STOP CHERRYPICKING.” Their eye fills with a sudden rage that makes him flinch in his window. “Your dream is INANE. Let go of that impossible desire and you’ll be so, SO much happier.”
His void eyes expand, and his knuckles turn whiter from how tight he clenches his sword. Another pop-up never comes, the laptop shuts off by itself.
Suppose they should give him some space.
