Robin and Cordelia - Alternate Supports for Fire Emblem Awakening

Summary:

Summary

Ahh... Fire Emblem Awakening...
The supports in this game make me so happy to review sometimes, even so many years since my last playthrough! Some characters are so goofy, others so sweet... so many unforgettable interactions and some genuinely fun writing.

But... what if... they were a little longer? What if we took those good story beats, some creative liberties, the characters, and fleshed them out into, say, 10 (or so) interactions? It works great for Persona, so why not Awakening?

I find so many of the female cast of Awakening just delightful: Lissa is sunny and happy, Lucina struggles with a dark past, Tiki with the prospect a long and lonely life... They make for delightful love stories.

So, without further ado, please enjoy my own fan-written support between:

Robin and Cordelia

Notes:

Notes

I struggled with this one for quite a while trying to write Cordelia right, but I think I've got her down... okay. Haha! I guess I, like her, am not totally satisfied with myself! But that's okay. I based her off of some very wonderful, high-performing young women in my life whom I look up to and love, so I hope it's good.

Originally, I felt Robin and Cordelia's story capped off nicely at 10, but... somehow Severa came into the picture on her own, perhaps not wanting to be left out. I get the feeling some people will be upset with how she's not a stone-cold-tsundere... But really, after having studied her supports, I think she softens up for her parents, especially because I believe Robin is a VERY perceptive father... and it's a shame that her supports with her dad are copy-pasted, as I think she deserved a unique one with Robin.

I went to my local holy place and meditated and prayed while writing this, and I felt the ending come to me as if from heaven itself as I pondered how to finish their sotry. It's... not something I would normally write, but variety is the spice of life, they say...

When I played Awakening, I married the following ladies in this order, if I recall correctly: Nowi, then Lissa, then Cordelia. So this one's special to me. I mean, they ALL are, but she's one I actually played an entire run with, so I hope you enjoy it.

General Notes and Apologies
- I have not read *every* support convo for every single character in the game with every other. I have played a LOT of this game, I did do some homework and reading before writing this, but if you find any lore inconsistencies in a character's story, sorry!
- Not 100% perfect English! I'm a native speaker, but I don't have anybody to help review these. Apologies if the occasional spelling, punctuation, or grammar error breaks the immersion for you!
- I do take some liberties (duh, it's fan fiction, haha!) with some of these; drawing on other games, lore from other games, and other Awakening Fan Fiction I've written. If you think "Chrom would never say that!" Or "Robin would never!" That's fine, amigo/a! I'm just sharing this with any who might enjoy them.
- Robin has some minor changes to his abilities to make it more lore-consistent:
- He can use magic without tomes
- He has very potent dark magic skills that he doesn't like to use often, but still has. (Taught by his mother.)
- Since Grima was created with divine dragon blood, Robin has divine dragon magic, albeit corrupt magic. That means that he can use his fell blood-empowered magic for feats of sorcery and magic that others might not be able to do. (Similar to Gotoh, or the Rainbow Sage.)

Chapter 1: Robin - Cordelia 1

Chapter Text

(Mountain Pass - Road to Western Palace)
Robin: Hyaa!
Cordelia: Behind you!
Risen: Ackk!
Cordelia: Hyaa!
Robin: Yikes! That was close!
Cordelia: Watch yourself, and don't get careless!
Robin: ...Whoh. Now THAT'S a pegasus knight.
Risen: HISSS!
Robin: You! We've unfinished business!! Graa!
___
(Camp - That Night)
Chrom: *Sigh...*
Robin: ...How many?
Chrom: ...I'm not in the mood.
Robin: Come ooooon... What was it, 12? You only killed 12 measly risen today?
Chrom: ...26.
Robin: You---! I only got 25.
Chrom: Heheh. You almost had me this time.
Robin: Yeah, well, *almost* only counts in blasting magic... And that weird horseshoes game, I guess.
Chrom: Oh, don't worry, buddy. You'll get there.
Robin: Gah, I doubt it.
Chrom: Come on, Robin. Where's your manly bravado? And you're the prince's right-hand man and the second biggest thug on my brute squad for good reason.
Robin: HA! After Vaike?
Chrom: No, after me.
Robin: Hahaha!
Chrom: Heheh... *Sigh...*
Robin: ...
Chrom: ...
Robin: ...We'll march like the wind to Ferox, and crush that snake Gangrel's skull beneath our boots. I'm already cooking up plans to keep your sister safe and dice Gangrel up like Valmese hot pot.
Chrom: Heh. That's a good man... She's... *sigh...*
Robin: ...There's nothing I can say to take the pain away... But I will bear it with you to hell and back.
Chrom: ...I know you will. It means more than you know.
Robin: Oh, by the way, who is that pegasus knight? The one with the red hair?
Chrom: Oh, that's Cordelia. She's one of Phila's knights. Hell of a good soldier and very diligent, but I don't know much about her other than that, but she's Sumia's childhood friend, so you can talk to her if you need to know something about her.
Robin: I see... Thanks, Chrom.
Chrom: You *see*, you say... Did she catch your eye, my friend?
Robin: Heheh! You could say that. Hard not to be impressed, though. She's very graceful and elegant.
Chrom: You should go tell her that. I know most women in the company would swoon if they got a little attention from you, her doubly so.
Robin: HA! And you say I'm the court jester.
Chrom: Heh. You are, because you think I'm kidding, and that's what's funny... and sad. Don't talk yourself down, buddy. If you're interested, go talk to her.
Robin: I... I don't know...
Chrom: ...Look. I'll tell you what. You talk to her, and I'll go talk to Sumia.
Robin: Pssh! You're head over heels for that girl.
Chrom: Damn right I am. But that doesn't mean I'm always, erm... as suave as I'd like to be. You know I get... flustered, sometimes.
Robin: ...You're still a prince, though. I'm just a tactician.
Chrom: Come on, buddy... Lighten up! You're tough as a stone wall, hit like a charging wyvern, and your fire magic is... like a wyvern... And you eat... like a wyvern... And you smell... like a wyvern...
Robin: Haha! Gosh, I'm such a catch... Maybe I should go flirt with a wyvern, then.
Chrom: Heheh. Just messing with you. You're good lookin' guy. Trust me. I know from Lissa's own mouth that the ladies here all like you.
Robin: You're just trying to hype me up.
Chrom: Yeah. What's so wrong with me wanting to see you go try to talk to a girl?
Robin: I... I'm just...
Chrom: Would you rather I go back to worrying about Emmeryn?
Robin: Yeah, no. You go find Sumia and before my courage abandons me, I'll go find Cordelia. ...just so you're not worrying, though.
Chrom: Atta boy! You need you a girl of your own to obsess about... I'll buy you a whisky in Ferox if you can make her blush. And you buy me one if I make Sumia blush.
Robin: Hey! What kinda competition is that?! Sumia will blush if you *look* at her!
Chrom: Heh. Playing with a tactician, here. Gotta get every advantage I can get. Meet back here once you're done.
___
Cordelia: *...Sigh...*
Robin: Uhh... Miss Cordelia, was it?
Cordelia: My, aren't you the formal one, Robin?
Robin: Ah. I see my... reputation precedes me.
Cordelia: There's a grand total of one person in the army who wields magic without a tome, fights back-to-back with Chrom on the battlefield and struts around in a... rather shabby Plagean mage's coat all while being reckless and devastating on the front lines all at once: you.
Robin: ...I... wow. I'm impressed.
Cordelia: Why? It only takes a functioning ear and half a brain to know who you are. Tales abound in the army about Chrom's right-hand man, the tactician with no memory...
Robin: ...Wow. I had no idea people, erm... knew all that.
Cordelia: Well, they do. Did you... need something, perhaps? I'm rather busy.
Robin: Oh, yes. Sorry. I just wanted to thank you for the save back there. You're... amazing.
Cordelia: It was nothing. I'm just doing my job.
Robin: (...Not gonna let Chrom get this one on me! Come on... think...!)
Robin: Ahem... well, you're doing a great job at... your job. And you... you looked amazing while doing it. I've never seen such a mix of beauty, speed, and deadly precision. I'm a bit enchanted, to be honest.
Cordelia: B-beauty...? You're... you're teasing me, certainly...
Robin: (Aww, look at those cheeks... She's adorable...) Look, erm... I mean it. I don't mean to be, erm... well, flattering or flirtatious... But credit where credit is due, I think you're amazing, and I'm grateful that you're here with us.
Cordelia: W-well, I'm far from Ylisse's best pegasus knight...
Robin: And I am far from our strongest warrior or mightiest mage, but... I'm glad you're here all the same. It's... a pleasure to meet you formally, Cordelia.
Cordelia: Yes... of course.
(Robin leaves)
Cordelia: ...Beautiful? No, stupid, he meant the pegasus, certainly... *You're* not beautiful...
___
Chrom: Well?
Robin: Did it.
Chrom: I'll be damned.
Robin: And you?
Chrom: Heh. Yeah. Effortlessly. Just... shot her one of *these*.
Robin: HA! Chrom, you're gonna make *me* fall for you.
Chrom: Haha! Sorry, buddy, but I think Sumia's already claimed me, and no offense... I choose her over you for snuggling on those long winter nights.
Robin: Heheh. Good. And... thanks. I... I don't regret doing that.
Chrom: So? What do you think about her?
Robin: She's... very beautiful. And smart.
Chrom: Just your type.
Robin: Heh.
Chrom: ...Just because we're at war doesn't mean we can't be men. Talk to her, if you'd like. She could use a friend, and you're a good one.
Robin: ...Likewise, buddy.
