Robin and Emmeryn - Alternate Supports for Fire Emblem Awakening

Summary:

Ahh... Fire Emblem Awakening...
The supports in this game make me so happy to review sometimes, even so many years since my last playthrough! Some characters are so goofy, others so sweet... so many unforgettable interactions and some genuinely fun writing.

But... what if... they were a little longer? What if we took those good story beats, some creative liberties, the characters, and fleshed them out into, say, 10 (or so) interactions? It works great for Persona, so why not Awakening?

I find so many of the female cast of Awakening just delightful: Lissa is sunny and happy, Lucina struggles with a dark past, Tiki with the prospect a long and lonely life... They make for delightful love stories.

So, without further ado, please enjoy my own fan-written support between:

Robin and Emmeryn

Notes:

Notes about This Story

In my own personal Awakening-verse, Robin has a crush on Emmeryn, but naturally, due to them not spending much time together, nothing becomes of it.

But... what if Emmeryn survived?

I'm not a fan of them shoehorning her into the plot of Awakening as a DLC character...
That said, I wanted to write a What If here... what if Emmeryn survived?

This one is close to home for me. I've watched somebody very close and dear to me go from being barely functioning due to mental health to becoming one of the most resilient, sweet, and caring people I've ever met.

Note the support time in this one is over months and years... healing takes time, but I truly believe that true love is patient, long suffering, and kind... and that love given to a person can help them heal, and they can grow strong and beautiful.

As for what Emmeryn's condition is here... I didn't have anything SUPER meaningful to base it off of... So if you're looking for a real-life parallel to what she has, good luck, I've got no idea.

General Notes and Apologies
- I have not read *every* support convo for every single character in the game with every other. I have played a LOT of this game, I did do some homework and reading before writing this, but if you find any lore inconsistencies in a character's story, sorry!
- Not 100% perfect English! I'm a native speaker, but I don't have anybody to help review these. Apologies if the occasional spelling, punctuation, or grammar error breaks the immersion for you!
- I do take some liberties (duh, it's fan fiction, haha!) with some of these; drawing on other games, lore from other games, and other Awakening Fan Fiction I've written. If you think "Chrom would never say that!" Or "Robin would never!" That's fine, amigo/a! I'm just sharing this with any who might enjoy them.
- Robin has some minor changes to his abilities to make it more lore-consistent:
- He can use magic without tomes
- He has very potent dark magic skills that he doesn't like to use often, but still has. (Taught by his mother.)
- Since Grima was created with divine dragon blood, Robin has divine dragon magic, albeit corrupt magic. That means that he can use his fell blood-empowered magic for feats of sorcery and magic that others might not be able to do. (Similar to Gotoh, or the Rainbow Sage.)

Chapter 1: Robin - Emmeryn 1

Chapter Text

(Ylisstol Palace)
Emmeryn: Thank you for the report, Chrom.
Chrom: Anytime, Emm. Come along, Robin. Let's take our leave.
Robin: Right.
Emmeryn: Chrom, would you mind if I borrowed Robin for a moment?
Chrom: Of course. I'll be in the barracks when you're done, Robin.
Robin: Understood.
___
Robin: ...Is there something I can help you with, your grace? You look tired.
Emmeryn: You call my siblings by their first names. Will you do me the same pleasure while it is just the two of us?
Robin: Of course, Emmeryn. Or, Emm? Do you have a preference?
Emmeryn: Either is fine.
Robin: Emmeryn it is. It's a beautiful name. Are you well? Can I help you with something?
Emmeryn: Yes. I see that Lissa just lights up around you, and Chrom looks upon you as an equal, a friend without reservation... That brings me great joy. I'm told that he'll... even joke around with you, and that the two of you spend a good deal of time together outside of battle and work. You have no idea how happy that makes me to hear.
Robin: I enjoy their company greatly, and... simply try to be there for them however I can. I owe them much.
Emmeryn: That's delightful, Robin. Please, continue to do as you have done thus far. Chrom bears a heavy burden, and I'm ashamed to say, has few he can rely on, and even few he chooses to rely on. Lissa's heart is young and tender, but burns with an innocent light that should be both protected and allowed to shine.
Robin: I will do so, Emmeryn. I can see you love them deeply.
Emmeryn: They are my whole world, and my only family.
Robin: Then I will protect them all I have.
Emmeryn: Thank you. That was the reason I wanted to speak with you: My request for you is to not limit yourself in your relationships with my siblings, as others do. Please, continue to see them and love them as people and friends, beyond titles and stations. They need it.
Robin: Of course! That won't be a problem your gra-ahem. Emmeryn. I'm... not sure how to treat people of station anyways!
Emmeryn: Heehee! Thank you, Robin. That will be all. I'm sorry to keep you.
Robin: Of course. But... is that really all? Chrom and Lissa worry about you constantly, and love you deeply as well. Surely it would be helpful to them if I could do something to lighten your burden? After all, my... ignorance of how to treat a person of their station extends to you as well, and if you find it useful, I'd be happy to extend a hand in friendship to you in... heheh... ways I'm sure many people would consider overly casual, as I do with Chrom and Lissa. That is, erm... to be a friend to Emmeryn the woman, not simply a servant of Emmeryn the Exalt.
Emmeryn: You are very sweet, Robin. Knowing they are well, protected, and loved is a large weight off of my shoulders. You are, in many ways, the older sibling to them that I cannot be to them: a figure upon whom they can rely to keep them safe, to share laughter and down time, free from the burdens of office and expectations. Long have they yearned for such a relationship, and long have I failed to give them enough of my time, laughter, and love.
Robin: ...Emmeryn... Is there... *nothing* I can do for you, and just you? You work yourself so hard.
Emmeryn: I am truly touched by your offer. Care for them, and think of me as you do so, for it is unto me that the greater kindness is offered in this.
Robin: Hmmm... Very well. And if, perhaps, a package of... sweets were to arrive with your name on it?
Emmeryn: Well, hahaha, I would never say no to that! Thank you, Robin. You honor me with your, sincerity.
Robin: I'll have Lissa help me pick. I'm sure she knows your favorites...
Emmeryn: Thank you, Robin.
Robin: I'll... see myself out. Have a pleasant day, Emmeryn.
___
Robin: My word, she is beautiful. My heart was jumping out of my chest! Phew... Voice as soft as silk, hair as soft as... silk... and she's so caring and sweet. No wonder the people adore her... Wait... Do I have a crush on her?! Haha! Seems like it... Oh well. Nothing will ever become of it, given the difference in our station, but it's harmless enough, I suppose... Erm... which was was the barracks again...?
