Work Text:

The clock said tick,
the clock said tock,
the office was empty,
my mind was not.
She hopped a flight,
it left at 9, arrived at 5,
left her house and took her home.
Fresh eyes see the adventure,
even if it’s all the same.
It doesn’t have to make sense.
Oh, to be young.
Oh, to have the soul of a child again.

The clock said tick,
the clock said tock,
she opened the door,
I told her to knock.

She never knocks.

The first thing you learn is that nothing comes for free.
There’s an exit price and an opportunity cost to everything.

Standing on the cliff side with all the years rattling inside she jumped in the water.
Free as a bird,
stuck as a flea.
Flying for a moment before the moment breaks.

“Who exactly do you think you are?”
the ocean asked as she breathed it in.
“I’m Ellenor!” she told the thing.
“I’m Ellenor,” it whispered back.
As her head broke the surface
she tried to wipe her eyes.
She was pulled back under
she gasped with surprise.

“Who exactly do you think you are?”
the ocean screamed as she breathed it in.
“I don’t know anymore!”
She told the thing. “I don’t know.”
It spit her back on the shore.
She opened a new door,
fingers in the sand, the gravel, the rocks, the boulders, the mountains.
The earth, it won’t open.

The first thing you learn is that nothing comes for free.

The clock said tick,
the clock said tock,
a list to be judged,
two-faced sea scum.
