Work Text:
Welcome to La La Land
With the buildings so bright
Where we all dance ‘til we fall over at night
You'll agree, you’ll say
"I've fought the good fight
I've tried the good try
And I have dreamt this dream before"
Oh, dance
Dance until it's all you know
You won't stop; it's in your bones
You don't remember learning the steps
But you perform them so very well
It will start to feel like a film you've seen before
But it's a good film, n'est-ce pas?
The people come to watch
Isn’t that the point?
This is a circus.
This is what you signed up for
So, paint on a smile
Just like the horses riding round
On that carousel of broken dreams
Try to keep up, darling...
You best pick a god and make yourself busy
Virtues and vices get lost in the city
Perhaps all the buildings are merely paintings
The cut grass or the city bricks or the gravel drive or the flamingos pink
All one big performance set on my stage
If the world is a stage the world is a cage
...But the show will not stop
So scream
Tear yourself apart
Scratch at the strings
They'll clap and call it art
This is a circus, starling;
And the show must go on
