Work Text:
Peter was swinging back to his apartment, selfishly hoping Harley was in. His whole body felt as if it was on fire - which it was only 30 minutes ago - and his limbs felt heavy. He was trying his best to keep his eyes open, but all his efforts went to staying in the air. His body was on autopilot, so his mind had to deal with the pain now the adrenaline had worn off.
He swung into the open window, crashing to the floor. Harley was sitting on the couch, watching whatever was on, but did a double take once he saw Peter. He immediately rushed over, and Peter knew how bad he must look.
“Peter, can you hear me?” he asked, not even trying to keep the worry and anxiety out of his voice.
Peter mumbled something that even he didn’t know, trying to reassure Harley. But Harley just tried to help him stand and carried him onto the sofa. Peter tried to protest but they both knew that it was in vain. He was in too much pain to even cry, the only noise he could make was a horrible groaning sound, which to Harley felt like nails on a chalkboard.
“I’ve already called Tony, he’s on his way in the suit. He’ll only be 5 minutes,” Harley reassured, but Peter could barely hear him above the noise in his head. Peter didn’t notice, but tears were now rolling down his cheeks, as well as Harley’s.
He could feel Harley’s hand in his, taking in the warmth, even if he just wanted to cool down. He just kept thinking about the heat, the feel of burning, and the pain. His voice was hoarse, he had done a fair bit of screaming, but now he was sobbing, gasps and groans that sounded painful.
Harley couldn’t stand to listen to his boyfriend in pain, but he couldn’t leave. He could hear his blood rushing in his ears, and he could see Peter’s blood, everywhere. It was quiet now, silent tears streaming down both the boys faces. Well, it was, until Peter whispered, “I need you to tell me that it’s okay.”
It broke Harley. He was ugly sobbing now, bent over Peter’s body. “It’s okay, Peter,” he replied, “It’s all going to be okay.”
He wasn’t sure if he was reassuring Peter or himself, but it made Peter smile slightly.
“Harls,” he mumbled, his words slurring as his world darkened.
“Yes, darlin’,” he answered.
“‘m tired,” he grunted, blinking slowly as his eyelids got heavier.
“I know, baby, I know. Tony’s here now, okay,” he reassured. “We are gonna get you all fixed up, alright.”
And as much as it pained him to say, he choked out, “Close your eyes, I love you, I’ll see you in a minute.”
Tony came in the window just as Peters eyes fell shut, and he lifted the boy off the sofa, while the other boy held on tight and hoped his partner would be okay.
