Work Text:

Tonight you decided you were going to let go and have some fun. An old college roommate was in town and had invited you to go with her and some friends to a newer club two cities over.

It had been a long week so it was an easy yes to go have drinks for a night.

You were about to get off from your shift at the pitt, telling your plans to Trinity and Dennis. Jack Abbot happened to be nearby too. The night shift attending had a major crush on you so he always seemed to gravitate towards you.

Overhearing your plans he subtly chimes in “Be careful while you're out sweetheart.”

The comment makes your heart race because you are just as smitten with him as he is with you. Neither of you ever commenting on the lingering tension.

“Always am Abbot” you smile at him.

He scoffs playfully at you "I've heard that a million times. Drink lots of water and make sure to eat something. You do not want all that alcohol to take you out before you can get to the dancefloor.”

You jokingly hold out your pinky “I swear on it Jack”

“No, this is a pinky promise, I take that shit seriously sweetheart” he chuckles interlocking your pinkies.

“Alright Abbot, I pinky promise” you give in with a wide smile.

And that smile? That made his heart soar.

After your shift you rushed home and showered quickly before getting ready. You picked a short but stylish black dress and a pair of cute heeled boots.

After finishing your hair and makeup, you ate a quick snack as a text from your friend came in

‘𝘖𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘵 𝘩𝘶𝘯!’

You type back you're on your way down. Grabbing your wallet you flick off the lights and make your way down.

The drive into the new city isn't too bad and soon enough your group is headed inside the club. Drinks are ordered and you finally start to relax over different stories and fun conversation.

After your second drink you had started on a glass of water to pace yourself.

See Jack? Pinky promised I would.

You smile to yourself.

After a few hours the majority of the group were pretty drunk and all over the place. You though, had cut yourself off after the fourth drink. Slightly tipsy but nowhere near the level of drunk everyone else was at.

Needing to use the bathroom you find your friend and let her know you’ll be back. You don't get a solid reply but she seemed to have acknowledged you with a drunk nod.

Okay, no worries. I won't be long anyways.

You make your way into the bathroom and do what you need to. After washing your hands you adjust the top of your dress and fix your hair a bit, the dancing having made it a little crazy.

You pull out your phone to check the time and see a text from Jack from a few hours ago. Oh god. Your hands shake nervously as you tap to open it.

‘𝘏𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘩𝘰𝘱𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶'𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘧𝘶𝘯 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵. 𝘑𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥. 𝘊𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨’

Oh SWOON. Jack Abbot the man you are.

You grin so wide it meets your eyes. Making your way back to the table, you see the table cleared of everyone's things and a whole new group of people occupying the table.

Okaaay. You thought. Maybe they were still on the dance floor.

You scan the building, walking around and don't see your friend. Actually, you don't see anyone from the group.

You walk up to the bar and flag down a bartender.

“Hey! Did you see these people recently, like where they went?” you show him a group picture on your phone that was taken earlier that night.

The bartender leans in to look “Uuuh yeah actually. That girl there,” he points out your friend “she closed the tab and they all walked out. Everything okay?” he asks with concern.

Your heart starts to race and not in a good way.

“Yeah everything’s good, I just lost them in the crowd a bit ago” you force a laugh “thanks though” you say as you make your way outside.

Again you look around and don't see the group. You see the bouncer and show him the same picture.

“Oh yeah they caught a cab maybe 20 minutes ago? All piled their drunk asses in there, poor driver” he laughs.

There's no. fucking. way.

No fucking way that they just left you here with no way home.

You check your phone for any missed text or calls. Nothing. You try calling your friend but it keeps going straight to voicemail. Shit.

Your phone alerts you that it's at ten percent. Great. Your phone's about to die and you're all alone in a city you don't know.

You remember Jack’s text from earlier and groan. He said to call if you need anything but it's so late and today will be his only day off. Your thumb hovers over his contact.

Hopefully the offer still stands.

You cross your fingers as you hit call.

﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌

Jack is starting to doze off on the couch when he hears his phone ring. He looks at the clock on the wall. 2 a.m. Damn, he was almost asleep early this time.

Wait, who's calling this late? He leans over to grab his phone off the coffee table and looks at the screen.

Your name stares back at him. A smile tugs at his face.

He picks up quickly, nerves running wild “Hey sweetheart” he answers softly.

“Jack?...” you sniffle.

The way you say his name makes him freeze. “Sweetheart, what's wrong?”

“I’m sorry to bother you b-but I-I need you, they left m-me and I-” your words broken up by light sobs.

“Whoa whoa whoa baby, they did what?” He's hoping he's hearing this all wrong.

You try taking breaths between the cries “My college friend, t-the one I went out with. H-her and her other friends, they l-left me Jack. I don't know where I am and my phone’s about to die” you barely make out the words.

Each one breaking his heart.

He's in disbelief and disgusted that your so-called “friend” would leave you drunk and alone in a city you've never been to. He puts you on speaker and starts getting dressed.

“Okay sweetheart listen to me carefully. First, send me your location immediately. Second, get inside and stay there until I come in and get you. I'm on my way right now” he instructs you while grabbing his keys and hurriedly getting to his truck.

His phone pings ‘𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘺/𝘯’ thank god.

He taps on it and sees you're 40 minutes away. He still can't believe they’d leave you like that.

“Okay baby I see where you are. I’ll be there as soon as I can. Again, please stay ins-” the call disconnects before he can finish.

Fuck. Your phone must've died.

He steps on the gas pedal harder.

I'm coming, sweetheart.

﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌

You pull the phone away from your ear.

Dead. Just great.

You're embarrassed you cried on the phone to Jack like that but it was all just too overwhelming. A little alcohol in your system also didn't help. But at least he's coming.Thank god.

You make your way inside and take a seat at the bar.

The same bartender from earlier stops in front of you, seeing your eyes red and wet from tears. “Ma’am is everything okay?” The genuineness in his tone has you tearing up again but you nod to reassure him.

“Y-yeah. I have someone coming. Jack…” you trail off quietly, a combination of exhaustion and leftover alcohol in your system taking over. You lean your head on your arms and close your eyes.

You drift off slowly on the bartop.

﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌

Jack finally makes it to the pinned location and parks against the curb.

Fuck the parking toll.

He quickly makes his way inside and scans for you. Not spotting you right away he makes his way to the bar to maybe get a better vantage point.

“Yo man! You Jack?” he hears his name and looks towards the voice.

He spots a man, the bartender, at the other end of the bar

 “Yeah… who's asking?”

The man gestures toward the sleeping figure leaning on the bar in front of him

 “She said you’d be coming”

He sighs in relief and makes his way towards you. “Is she okay? What did she drink? Did anyone mess wi-” Jack’s line of questioning is cut off by the bartender.

“Nah man. She's okay. Hasn't had a drink besides water for a few hours. Came in crying and fell asleep. Must've been a rough night but I’ve stayed down here with her. No one's come close to her.”

Jack nods feeling reassured “Thanks man”

He then faces you, shaking your shoulder a bit “Sweetheart, I'm here. It’s Jack”

You stir slightly and groan “J-Jack?”

“Yeah baby it's me. C’mon I’m taking you home” he helps you stand, bringing one of your arms around his neck and one of his firmly around your waist.

He leads you to his truck and opens the passenger side with one hand.

“Alright, up you go sweetheart.” Jack says as he picks you up bridal style and helps seat you in the truck.

After situating you and getting your seatbelt on, he gets in on his side and starts the truck.

“Thank you Jack” you say sleepily as your head lolls to the side closer to him.

He chuckles lightly at your soft and sleepy state, worry still lingering “Of course sweetheart. I’ve always got you.”

﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌

You don't even realize he didn't take you to your apartment but to his. He leads you into his place and guides you towards his room.

He sits you on the edge of his bed as he grabs a shirt and boxers for you.

“Here baby, change into this while I grab you some water, okay?”

You nod silently, a little more awake but barely.

“Be right back” He leaves, closing the door behind him.

You change with slow movement but manage to get yourself changed, sitting back on the edge of the bed.

A knock makes you look up.

” Can I come in sweetheart?”

You smile “yeah J”

Jack comes in with a large water bottle and a bottle of tylenol.

“Alright lets get you into bed” he helps you get under the covers and makes sure you're comfortable.

He bends down to your level and looks you in the eyes “I’ll be on the couch. Yell if you need me. For anything. Sleep tight” he whispers, pressing a gentle kiss to your forehead.

You close your eyes at the gentle touch as sleep pulls you under.

﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌﹌

You slowly wake up, eyes blinking slowly and adjusting to the light from the window.

What happened?

You sit up but don't recognize the room. It's definitely not your room. You look at the bed. Okay, definitely not your bed. And then you look at the clothes you have on, These are definitely not your clothes.

Looking around you see water, tylenol, and a note on the nightstand. You pick up the note.

‘𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘴𝘭𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘺𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘥 :) 𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘸𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘶𝘱, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘯 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵. 𝘪 𝘭𝘦𝘧𝘵 𝘵𝘺𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘦. 𝘱.𝘴. 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘭 -𝘑’

You can't help but blush at the sweet note.

Oh shit. Last night. It all starts coming back to you.

You search for your phone and find it plugged in and fully charged. Checking your notifications, you find…nothing. No ‘sorry’ text, no ‘are you okay”. Nothing.

Well, dealing with that could wait.

You had breakfast and a hot doctor to get to.

Stepping out of the bedroom, you can smell bacon and what seems to be pancakes. You spot Jack in the kitchen with said breakfast ready and pouring a coffee.

“Jack?” you call out hesitantly, making yourself known.

He quickly turns, a small smile appearing “hey sleeping beauty, how ya feelin?” he comes and engulfs you in a comforting hug.

“Much better” you mumble into his solid chest.

“Thank god. I was so worried about you last night” he whispers against your head.

You squeeze him tighter “I don't think I can thank you enough for everything you did. I’m sorry if I interrupted your night.”

He shakes his head against yours “Dont ever apologize for calling me. I insist you do. Day or night, if you ever need something, you call or text me. I'll do anything and everything I can to help.”

You lean your head back to look at him and bring your pinky up

“Pinky promise?”

Laughter fills his chest as he brings his pinky to yours

“Pinky promise, pretty girl.”
