Work Text:

It was an early Sunday morning, one both Lucy and Angela had off from the station.

It was a rare occasion that they both had off and they were both very grateful for it.

Finally getting a day that was just for them.

The bright morning sun shone through the curtains, streaking across their bedroom.

Lucy lie on her side, in just one of Angela’s baggier shirts that she had stolen.

The sun casted over her face, making her slowly blink awake.

The first thing she was aware of was the weight across her waist.

Her face instantly broke into a sleepy smile and she rolled over, burying her face in the curve of her girlfriend’s neck.

She took a moment to breathe her in.

The familiar comforting scent of Angela’s cherry shampoo, washing over her.

She pressed a kiss right there to her neck, letting it linger.

Angela was already half awake and felt Lucy shift in bed.

When she felt the light kiss to her neck, she tightened her hold on Lucy, pulling her impossibly closer.

She shifted so their foreheads pressed together.

“Hey, you.”

Lucy brushed her nose against Angela’s.

“Hey.”

She opened her eyes and glanced at the clock on the nightstand.

“You know it’s past ten, right?”

Angela hummed, not opening her eyes.

“So?”

Lucy’s smile only grew.

“You didn’t want to actually do anything on our one day off together?”

Angela opened her eyes then and shook her head, her thumb tracing over Lucy’s cheekbone.

“No. I just want to be here with you. That’s enough.”

“Thats oddly sweet.”

Angela chuckled softly.

“Don’t get used to it, I have a reputation to uphold.”

Lucy rolled her eyes.

“Right. How could I forget about that.”

They both laughed.

Lucy leaned in and kissed Angela gently.

It was soft at first, Angela letting out a soft hum against Lucy’s lips.

The sound spurred Lucy on and she deepened it slightly, pressing their lips more firmly together.

When Angela pulled back, there was a dazed smirk on her face that softened her features.

She let out a small huff that wasn’t quite a laugh and more of a breath.

“Well, I’ll be sweet more often if it gets me that.”

She was half joking but her eyes said that she was completely serious.

Lucy giggled and sat up, the blanket slipping from her shoulder and resting at her waist.

“You’re always sweet. Even if you won’t admit it.”

Angela just lie back against the pillows, looking up at her, the softest look in her eyes.

Lucy’s cheeks flushed slightly at the staring.

“What?”

Angela’s smile grew.

“Nothing. I just… I just love you.”

Lucy leaned down and kissed her again, more tenderly, sweeter.

“I love you too.”

After that, she rolled out of bed and stood up, stretching her arms above her head, Angela’s shirt lifting up to expose more of her thighs before she put them down again and padded out of the bedroom.

Angela groaned at the loss of her in their warm space.

“Where are you going?”

Lucy called out from the kitchen.

“Operation pancakes! We can’t be total slugs!”

Angela laughed and forced herself out of bed.

It wasn’t the same without Lucy in it anyway.

She made her way into their kitchen and saw Lucy at the counter, already pulling out ingredients for pancakes.

She leaned against the doorway, just watching her.

Something warm settled in her chest seeing her person so comfortable in the space of their kitchen.

Lucy looked up and saw her staring, that same flush returning to her cheeks.

“You just gonna watch? Or are you gonna come help?”

Angela pushed off the wall and stepped behind the counter, walking behind Lucy and looping her arms around her waist.

“I think I prefer watching.”

Lucy giggled and leaned back into Angela’s embrace.

“Mhm. Of course.”

She took a bowl and started getting the pancake mix together.

“Fine. If I’m making it, you have to at least make a very important decision for me.”

“Oh yeah? Whats that?”

Lucy grabbed the container of blueberries and the bag of chocolate chips, holding them up in each hand.

“Blueberries or chocolate chips?”

Angela pulled back and leaned against the counter, her arms loosely crossed.

“Really? Thats an important decision?”

Lucy nodded with mock seriousness.

“Oh yes. The most important.”

Angela shook her head fondly.

“You’re dramatic.”

Lucy shrugged unapologetic.

“Maybe. But you love me anyway.”

Angela leaned in and kissed Lucy’s cheek.

“Of course I do.”

She started walking towards the bathroom, calling over her shoulder.

“I’m going to take a quick shower.”

She disappeared into the bathroom, leaving the door slightly ajar so she could hear if Lucy needed anything.

“Wait! You forgot to pick!”

Angela turned on the shower and called out one last time.

“Pick whatever, baby. It doesn’t matter to me.”

That nickname was one that Angela used often, and every time it made Lucy forget how to breathe for a moment.

She smiled to herself and continued her very important duties of making their breakfast.

Angela was in the shower for maybe thirty minutes before the scent of something burning floated into the bathroom.

She quickly finished and dressed into more pajamas because she didn’t plan on leaving the apartment, and went back into the kitchen.

She saw Lucy standing at the stove with an embarrassed smile on her face.

Lucy held up the burnt blueberry pancake, or what was supposed to be a blueberry pancake.

“I burnt it.”

Angela laughed and grabbed the pancake, studying it more.

“I can see that. You know, when I said ‘you pick’ I didn’t mean charcoal.”

Lucy gently shoved her shoulder.

“Not funny.”

Angela chuckled anyway and threw the burnt monstrosity into the trash.

“It’s kind of funny.”

Lucy huffed a breath and had that little pout on her face that she got anytime she was frustrated or annoyed.

Angela found it adorable.

She placed her hands on Lucy’s shoulders.

“It’s okay, we can just order in.”

Lucy smiled faintly and nodded.

“I know. I just wanted to make it for once.”

Angela pressed a kiss to her forehead and Lucy already felt the frustration slipping away.

Angela pulled out her phone and went to order in pancakes.

“There’s always next time. Today we’re having amazing DoorDash pancakes.”

Lucy face brightened and she leaned closer to look at the screen, resting her chin on Angela’s shoulder.

“Don’t forget to get blueberry.”

Angela smiled and placed their order.

“I would never. I know they’re your favorite.”

She took Lucy’s hand and guided her to their couch, pulling her down onto the soft cushions.

Lucy settled comfortably with her head in Angela’s lap and grabbed the remote to look for something to watch.

Angela grabbed the throw blanket they had hung over the back of the couch and draped it over Lucy’s body with more care than necessary.

Lucy turned on the mindless baking show they always watched together when they just wanted something to fill the silence.

Angela carded her fingers through Lucy’s soft hair, playing with the silky strands.

Lucy let her eyes fall shut and a soft sigh of contentment escaped her.

Angela’s expression softened and she pressed a feather light kiss to Lucy’s hair.

“Comfortable, baby?”

Lucy nodded, a soft smile on her lips.

“Mhm. You’re a comfy pillow.”

Angela chuckled and just kept playing with her girlfriend’s hair in the way she knew she liked it.

They sat like that for a while in a comfortable silence, except for the sound of the Tv playing.

It was the kind of silence that they didn’t need to fill.

They could just be in it together.

It was the best kind.

After some time, there was a soft knock at their door, their food arriving.

Lucy groaned, this time it being her not wanting to get up.

“I don’t want to move.”

Angela gently guided Lucy off of her lap so her head rested back on the cushions.

“It’s okay, I’ll get it.”

Lucy nodded, keeping her eyes shut and nuzzling her face more into the couch.

She heard Angela open the door and exchange a few words with the delivery person, before her footsteps sounded, coming back into the living room.

Lucy finally forced herself to sit up as Angela sat down next to her.

The smell of fresh pancakes already drifted from the bag and into the air.

“Mmm it smells so good.”

Angela smiled at her before opening the bag and taking out the containers with their pancakes.

They both got blueberry, with little packets of syrup that was in the bag.

Lucy dug in, taking her first bite and letting her eyes close as the blueberry flavor flooded her mouth.

Angela laughed, taking her own bite.

“Good?”

Lucy nodded excitedly.

“Really good.”

They continued eating their food, stealing glances from each other every once in a while.

It was the first breakfast together that they didn’t have to rush out of, in a while.

They both felt very at peace and utterly happy, getting to spend a lazy morning with their favorite person.

Once their food was finished and their stomachs were full, they put the empty containers back in the bag and set it on the floor, to deal with later.

Lucy settled into Angela’s side, pulling the blanket over both of their laps.

Angela shifted so they were both comfortable, and took Lucy’s hand, intertwining their fingers like it was second nature.

Lucy let her fingers brush over Angela’s knuckles.

“I wish we could do this more often.”

“What? Stuff our faces with door-dashed pancakes?”

Lucy laughed and elbowed her, playfully.

“No. I mean, quiet mornings like this. No expectations, no station, nowhere to be. Just us.”

Angela nodded, agreeing completely and rested her head against Lucy’s.

“We’ll find time again.”

She said it almost like a promise.

Lucy nodded, satisfied, and let her eyes close again.

Sleep already threatening to pull her under again after the exhausting week they had.

“Sleep, baby. We have nowhere to be.”

Angela whispered softly.

Lucy let out a soft sigh before she finally drifted off in Angela’s arms.

Angela watched her for a while.

The rise and fall of her chest.

The way her face relaxed completely and all the tension drained from her face.

She smiled to herself, kissing Lucy’s temple one last time before letting her own eyes fall shut.

Because today they had all the time in the world, to just be.

And that was everything.
