Work Text:
Abolish walks through the forest, the moon high in the sky above him, though it’s obscured by the many trees surrounding him. Although the vampires are usually roaming around at night, meaning it’s much less safe, he was too busy during the day to look around the crypts for books. He shivers, not having realised how much colder the weather had been getting over the last week, and he wishes for what feels like the hundredth time that he’d brought his coat with him to Oakhurst.
He’s startled out of his thoughts when a snowflake lands on his nose, and he finally notices what seems to be the beginning of a blizzard. He curses under his breath as he realises just how far from town he seems to have wandered from the fact that he genuinely has no idea where he is.
“At least if I die of hypothermia out here, I won’t have to do any paperwork,” Abolish mutters to himself as he looks around for anything familiar. He’s been all over Oakhurst, but he never took into account the fact that things look different when it’s snowing. He finally picks a direction and starts to walk, hoping he’ll eventually see something he recognises.
Abolish starts to shiver uncontrollably as the snow picks up, already coating the ground and trees in a blanket of white. His teeth chatter and he starts to rub his arms to try and keep whatever heat he can. After what he assumes to be around twenty minutes of stumbling around blindly through the trees, he finds the lake, and sighs in relief. He finally knows where he is, and can make his way back to town, hopefully before he collapses from the cold.
As he starts walking in the direction he now knows to be town, he hears a weak noise, almost like a squeak. He squints through the snow until his gaze lands on a small, blue, white, and grey creature. It squeaks again, shivering as it huddles against a tree. Abolish approaches it cautiously, and only recognises the bat right as it notices him.
“Scott? What are you doing out here?” Abolish asks, his voice shaking as he continues to shiver. Scott just makes another weak noise, and Abolish walks up to him, kneeling in front of the bat and scooping him up. Scott squeaks in surprise, and Abolish tucks him against the crook of his neck.
Yes, vampires technically can’t die from the cold, but Abolish knows they don’t do very well in lower temperatures, especially when it’s snowing, because they can’t produce their own body heat. Normally, a coven stays together on the colder days, spending as much time as they can cuddling in their nest, so Abolish silently questions why Scott is out alone in the cold. Maybe he was trying to find food for his fledglings when the blizzard hit.
Abolish snaps himself out of his thoughts as he feels Scott’s little furry body nestle in against his neck. The bat still shivers, though whatever body heat Abolish has left must be enough for the vampire to be at least slightly content. Abolish resumes his walk back to town, knowing his house is closer than the castle.
After another ten minutes of stumbling through the snow covered forest, he finally spots the walls of town. He sighs in relief, knowing his toes and fingers are already numb enough to constitute a visit to the doctor in the morning to make sure he won’t lose any of them. He makes it through the town gates, seeing that no lights are on inside town. Everyone must already be asleep, or at least in bed.
He approaches his house, murmuring an invitation to Scott before opening the door and walking inside, ignoring the vampire’s small hiss against his neck as he walks past the many silver blocks by the entrance.
“Don’t be so dramatic,” Abolish scoffs with a small chuckle, relieved to be out of the snow. His house is still freezing, and his clothing is soaked. He climbs up the ladder to his bedroom, removes some silver to make Scott more comfortable, and grabs a towel, setting it down on top of his pillow. He pries a clinging Scott off of his neck, huffing at the little claw marks the bat leaves behind on his skin.
“I’ll be right back. I’m just going to go change into something dry,” Abolish explains, rolling his eyes. Scott glares up at him as he settles on the towel, watching as Abolish grabs some dry clothes out of his dresser and walks into the small bathroom, closing the door behind him. He quickly strips, dries off, and puts the clean clothing on before heading back out into his bedroom, hanging his suit jacket on his desk chair. He sits on his bed beside the pillow Scott’s on, pulling his blankets over his lap as he grabs his journal to quickly write the day’s events.
Scott lets out a curious chirp, inching closer. Abolish quickly shuts the journal and gives Scott a look, even though he writes in code that there is no possible way for Scott to be able to decipher. He notices that Scott is still soaked and shivering, his fur dripping onto the towel. Abolish grumbles under his breath before scooping both Scott and the towel up, placing them on his lap and drying Scott off. He refuses to admit how gentle he’s being, and he has to hold back an amused chuckle as he hears Scott let out a disgruntled squeak.
He finishes drying off the bat, and gives Scott’s furry little head a pat, lightly running his nails through his fur. Scott blinks up at him, a low rumbling noise starting to come from the vampire -purring, Abolish realises- and he tilts his head into Abolish’s hand. Abolish chuckles and continues to pet the vampire.
Abolish realises how late it must be when he yawns. He knows he hasn’t slept in at least four days, and the lack of proper rest is starting to catch up to him. He blinks a few times to try and stay awake through the sudden wave of exhaustion that washes over him. He quickly stands, throwing the blankets off of him, Scott still in his hands. Scott chitters in confusion and protests loudly when Abolish puts him on one of his pillows, carrying him over to the desk and leaving him there.
Abolish wordlessly walks back over to his bed, lying down and pulling the blankets tightly around himself to try and get warmer. Scott chirps from his spot on the desk, but Abolish is already asleep, too tired to be awake any longer.

Scott sits on a cold pillow in a cold room, all alone except for the human in a bed on the other side of the room. The human who looks very warm. Scott would like to be cuddled up with his fledglings, but the human would have to do. He flies over to the bed, landing on the pillow and approaching the sleeping human. He knows this human is normally very menacing when awake, but he looks very relaxed and adorable in sleep.
Scott climbs into the crook of the human’s neck, getting comfortable against the warm skin. Scott starts to purr as warmth seeps into his fur, chasing away the cold that had been so present moments before. The human shifts in sleep, his chin moving to rest lightly on top of Scott, making the vampire even warmer and comfier. Scott decides he likes this human. Maybe he’ll be able to get him to join his coven.

When Abolish wakes up, he instinctively presses his face further into his pillow. His pillow that feels a lot like hair. He doesn’t remember his pillow ever feeling like this before, but he decides to not think about it too hard. He tightens his grip on what must be his other pillow, which he is clutching to his chest. His pillow purrs in response and tightens its own arms around his waist, making Abolish hum contentedly. Wait, pillows can’t purr. And last he checked, his pillow doesn’t have arms.
Abolish opens his eyes and is met with soft white hair and pale skin. Scott is cuddled up against him, their limbs tangled together like a knot. Scott’s face is pressed against Abolish’s neck, and he continues to purr, nuzzling against Abolish’s skin. Abolish flushes slightly at the intimacy of the position, his brain not yet awake enough to properly comprehend what’s happening.
Scott lazily lifts his head after giving Abolish’s neck one last nuzzle, flashing a sleepy smirk at Abolish.
“Morning, handsome. Care to tell me how I ended up in your bed?” Scott asks, and Abolish can’t help but notice how hot the man’s voice is when he’s just woken up, his cheeks heating up more with the observation.
“I- uh… you don’t remember?” Abolish asks, blinking down at the man he’s still tangled up with.
“Should I?” Scott raises an eyebrow, smirking at Abolish’s flushed cheeks. He presses his body closer to the human, and Abolish lets out a strangled yet sleepy noise. Scott chuckles and leans back in to nuzzle his neck again, running his fangs teasingly against Abolish’s skin.
“Blizzard. There was a blizzard. I found you as a bat and brought you back here to warm you up. I left you on my desk, I’m not sure how you ended up here,” Abolish says, his voice slightly strained and much less nonchalant than usual as he feels the fangs against his neck.
“Mmm, that explains why I don’t remember. I must’ve been in my bat instincts. And I probably came over to you because you looked warm,” Scott murmurs against Abolish’s neck, fangs grazing skin with every word. Abolish tries not to panic as he realises he can’t feel the silver dagger he normally keeps under his pillow. He glances over to where he left his suit jacket, seeing the gleam of the dagger sticking out of one of the pockets.
“Your heart rate picked up a lot, there, handsome. Are you scared or excited?” Scott asks smugly.
“I’m too tired for this,” Abolish mumbles, dropping his head to bury his face in Scott’s hair. Scott chuckles and starts to purr again, pressing even closer to Abolish. Abolish blinks in surprise as exhaustion washes back over him and he struggles to stay awake. He finally gives in, letting himself fall asleep with Scott still in his arms.

Abolish wakes up to a pounding on his front door. He groans softly and moves to get up, only to realise that Scott is still wrapped around him. The vampire growls quietly, tightening his grip possessively on Abolish, obviously still mostly asleep and therefore taken over by his instincts.
“Scott, I have to go see who that is,” Abolish murmurs, trying to separate him and Scott, only to make the vampire growl in warning again. Abolish sighs and relaxes back against Scott, giving up. “If they barge in and see this, I’m going to kill you.”
Scott just chirps happily, nuzzling Abolish and pressing further against him, as if trying to meld their two bodies into one. Abolish raises an eyebrow at just how far into his instincts Scott seems to be, then he frowns slightly when he notices a streak of blue in the vampire’s white hair.
“You need to eat, Scott,” he murmurs. Scott lightly touches his fangs to Abolish’s neck before chirping as if to ask if he can have some of his blood. Abolish realises that he likely won’t be able to get the vampire to eat some raw meat or drink a bottle of blood while he’s attached to him like this, and he sighs.
“Fine, but don’t take too much. Just enough to keep you from dropping to level one,” Abolish says with a small huff.
The banging on the front door comes again, but Abolish ignores it as he hears a happy little chirp, followed by the feeling of fangs sliding into his neck. He tenses for a moment, until Scott’s venom starts to flow through his system, numbing the pain and almost making the process feel good. Abolish closes his eyes as Scott drinks, relaxing into the vampire’s grip. Scott pulls away after a moment, leaving Abolish only the slightest bit woozy. Scott lets out a thankful chirp and presses his forehead to Abolish’s the way a sire would to give appreciation to a fledgling.
“Don’t expect this to happen again. It was a one time thing,” Abolish says, sighing as Scott lets out yet another joyful chirp. “Can you at least turn into a bat so I can keep you relatively hidden and answer the door?”
Scott purrs loudly, his instinct-ridden brain taking a few seconds longer to process the question. He eventually huffs before turning into a bat and immediately cuddling up against Abolish’s neck. Abolish sighs in relief and gets out of bed, stretching as he stands. He quickly climbs down the ladder, almost falling off of it as the knocking starts up again. He doesn’t even bother to smooth his hair before he opens the door, which he regrets immediately when both Legs and Cleo look him over with twin expressions of disbelief at his disheveled state.
“What?” Abolish asks, slightly irritated, the fact that he just woke up obvious in both his voice and appearance. Cleo stifles a giggle and Legs raises an eyebrow. They both seem to notice the bat that’s attached itself to Abolish’s neck, and their expressions become slightly more hesitant.
“Is that Scott?” Legs asks, his gaze flicking between the sleepy, purring bat and Abolish’s face. Abolish just sighs and nods.
“Why in the world is the most dangerous vampire cuddled up against your neck?” Cleo asks, raising their voice in disbelief.
“Shush. You don’t need to wake everybody up,” Abolish mumbles, leaning against the doorframe sleepily.
“It’s the middle of the day, Abolish. Everyone’s already awake,” Legs says with an expression made up of both amusement and worry. “We hadn’t seen you since early yesterday morning. We were worried about you, we thought maybe the vampires got you- Did the vampires get you? Are you a vampire now?”
“No, no. I’m not,” Abolish mutters, clearly already done with the conversation.
Cleo huffs and reaches for him, pulling his shirt collar to the side, ignoring both Abolish’s sleepy protests and Scott’s quiet hissing. She raises an eyebrow at the bite mark on Abolish’s neck, opposite to where Scott is attached. Legs’ eyes widen at the sight, and he looks at Abolish with a slightly betrayed expression.
“I’m not a vampire. I just let Scott have some blood because he’s kinda deep in his instincts right now and won’t let me go, even to grab food,” Abolish explains before shutting the door in their faces, too tired to deal with people right now.
Legs ignores Abolish’s obvious and relatively rude dismissal as he opens the door and follows Abolish into his house. Cleo stays outside for a moment before sighing and following Legs inside. Abolish sways slightly from a mix of sleepiness and the remaining effects of Scott’s venom, along with the blood loss. Legs grabs his elbow, stopping Abolish and turning him to face him and Cleo.
“What is going on with you, Abolish? You’re acting weird,” Legs asks, holding onto Abolish’s elbow to keep the man steady.
“I’m fine, Legs. I’m just tired, I’ve been busy and haven’t had the chance to get much sleep,” Abolish mumbles with a small huff.
“You have a vampire on your neck, Abolish!” Legs exclaims.
“Yeah, and he won't let go of me!” Abolish says, his voice getting louder, something Cleo and Legs aren't used to from the normally calm and composed man.
Cleo just sighs and places their hands on their hips, staring disapprovingly at Abolish and Scott.
“You’re sleeping with him, aren’t you?” she asks, though it’s phrased more as a fact than a question. Abolish flushes and stammers in disbelief.
“What? No! Why would you-” Abolish stammers in disbelief, flushing at the question. Scott chirps in obvious amusement, taking the opportunity to purr louder and nuzzle his little head against Abolish’s neck. Cleo and Legs notice Scott’s reaction and each raise an eyebrow, making Abolish’s cheeks redden further.
“Scott, are you back to normal?” Abolish asks, slightly irritated.
Scott just chitters in response, pressing himself more against Abolish’s neck, digging his claws in slightly to ensure that Abolish won’t be able to remove him from his perch. Abolish tenses at the claws and mutters a few barely audible yet very graphic insults to the bat.
“Did I hear that Abolish is sleeping with someone?” M asks, bursting through Abolish’s front door excitedly, notebook in hand. Abolish sighs and buries his face in his hands, walking to the ladder to his second floor and going up it, ignoring as the three other humans protest, none of them wanting to invade his privacy too much by going into his bedroom without permission.
“Yeah, him and Scott,” Legs responds sarcastically, though the writer squeals and starts writing furiously in his notebook, obviously believing the doctor. Cleo glares at Legs, who smiles and shrugs sheepishly.
“Okay, let’s leave Abolish alone. He seems to get grumpy when he’s tired,” Cleo says, herding M and Legs back out the door.
Abolish sighs in relief when he hears them leave, collapsing backwards onto his bed with a groan. Scott climbs from Abolish’s neck to his chest, perching there and staring down at Abolish’s face, somehow wearing a smug expression even as a bat.
“You’re the worst,” Abolish mutters, sitting up and grabbing Scott before he can move off of his chest, holding him in his palms. “Why are you still here? Shouldn’t you be checking on your fledglings?”
Scott chirps and lightly headbutts one of Abolish’s thumbs to ask for pets. Abolish sighs again and reluctantly gives in, shifting Scott to sit in only one hand and using the other to lightly scratch behind the bat’s ears. Scott immediately starts purring and practically melts into Abolish’s hand.
“You like that, huh?” Abolish asks, a small smile appearing on his face without his permission. Scott purrs louder and leans further into Abolish’s hands.
After indulging the vampire for a few minutes, Abolish rests him on one of his knees, reaching for his journal. Scott stops purring and glares at him from his perch on Abolish’s knee, and he squeaks loudly, demanding attention. Abolish ignores him and continues to write in his journal. Scott huffs, then gets an idea. Abolish yelps in surprise, dropping his journal onto the bed beside him as a fully grown man appears in his lap, straddling him and pushing him onto his back.
He stares up at Scott in disbelief as the vampire smirks at him, pinning him down easily. Scott’s hands rest on Abolish’s chest, keeping him from moving.
“What the fuck, Scott?” Abolish asks with a huff, flushing slightly from having Scott sit on top of him like this.
“You weren’t giving me enough attention,” Scott replies smugly, leaning down until their faces are only inches apart. “You’re cute when you’re flustered.”
Abolish’s cheeks go from pink to red within seconds. He lies there, helpless underneath the vampire, refusing to admit to himself how much he likes it.
“Shut up,” Abolish mutters. Scott chuckles and leans in, pressing a quick kiss to Abolish’s nose, making the man splutter in surprise. “What are you-”
Scott cuts him off by giving him another quick kiss, this time on the corner of his mouth, rendering Abolish speechless and even more flustered than before. Scott chuckles, then lets out a surprised noise as Abolish grabs the fabric of his shirt and pulls him closer, crashing their lips together in a rough but passionate kiss. Scott stays still for a moment out of pure shock, before quickly regaining his composure and kissing Abolish back with just as much fervor.
Abolish wraps his arms around Scott’s neck, pulling him even closer. He doesn’t even try to stop for air, though Scott realises the human actually needs to breathe, so he pulls away after a moment, staying close. Abolish quickly catches his breath before pulling Scott into another kiss.
“I still hate you,” Abolish murmurs against Scott’s lips.
“Sure you do,” Scott replies, taking the opportunity to pull away and trail kisses down Abolish’s jaw, moving to his neck. He nips at the sensitive spot below the human’s earlobe, and Abolish’s breath hitches, his eyes fluttering shut.
Scott makes sure all the marks he leaves are in spots Abolish won’t be able to easily cover.

Abolish and Scott eventually got back to the cuddling they had been doing before they had been so rudely interrupted. Scott purrs soothingly, completely content with his face buried against Abolish’s neck and his arms around the human’s waist. Abolish rests his chin atop Scott’s head, half-asleep. Scott can’t help but find the human utterly adorable like this. His hair and clothing are even more disheveled after their make-out session, and his chest rises and falls steadily, betraying how close to sleep the human actually is.
Scott knows he should go check on his fledglings and get something to eat, but Abolish is just so warm and cosy, and he can’t bring himself to pull away. Abolish murmurs something unintelligible and tightens his arms around Scott, pulling the vampire tighter against his body. Scott coos at the adorable action, nuzzling Abolish’s neck and pressing a soft kiss to his skin.
While vampires don’t need to sleep, and Scott’s already spent his fair share of years asleep, he decides he might as well sleep for a few hours more as soon as he feels Abolish fall asleep against him. A few more hours, then he’ll go to his fledglings and get himself some food.
<><><>
Abolish wakes up yet again with Scott in his arms. He has absolutely no idea how long he slept for, but what he does know is that he could get used to waking up like this. He always tends to run hot while sleeping, so holding a body that’s naturally cold leaves him at the perfect temperature. Not to mention the vampire’s purring, which instantly calms him down and makes him forget about half his worries.
He notices that Scott’s hair is reverting back to blue again, and he sighs, gently shaking the vampire awake. Scott lifts his head and blinks lazily at Abolish, humming softly to ask what Abolish wants.
“You need to eat again, Scott,” Abolish reminds him, twirling a blue strand of Scott’s short, fluffy hair around one of his fingers. Scott makes a noncommittal noise of agreement before burrowing back against Abolish.
“If you’re going to refuse to get up, just take a bit of mine,” Abolish sighs.
“Thought you said that was a one time thing,” Scott murmurs against the human’s neck, smirking.
“Shut up and bite me before I change my mind,” Abolish huffs.
Scott chuckles softly before biting Abolish, the human relaxing fully against Scott as soon as the venom kicks in. Scott takes just enough blood to bring him back to halfway through stage two, knowing he can hunt on the way back to the castle. He presses a kiss to the bite mark before pulling away, sitting up and stretching slightly. Abolish sits up as well, blinking sleepily at the vampire.
“You leaving?” Abolish asks, yawning softly. Scott nods and wraps his arms around the human, pulling him closer and kissing him one more time before pulling away, turning into a bat, and flying out an open window. Abolish watches as he flies into the night sky, and realises how long he slept. He sighs and gets out of bed, walking over to his desk to put his suit jacket back on. He stocks up on tools and stakes, and walks out into the night. Now that he’s gotten enough sleep for at least the next week, it’s time to continue looking for the cure.
