Work Text:
SB was running from Pentar and Yungy like his life depended on it.
Actually, his life did depend on it. I mean, this was Lifesteal after all.
And how did he get into this situation, you may ask?
Well, SB would like to take you back a few hours ago.
SB and Rek had been the only two people of Team Apocalypse around, Clown and Minute doing something or another on Unstable Universe. The two of them were relatively silent, Rek occasionally saying something to fill the silence. Unfortunately for him however, SB was very much an introvert, responding in a SB-typical dry way. Which left awkward silence that SB appreciated.
SB was busy building up more of the Team Apoc base, since there was still a lot of it that was unfinished and it was Clown and Minute’s least favourite job. Rek was sorting out all the items they had as not only would it make it easier to search for stuff, but it would also, and SB quotes (from himself), “not give us a Grian-esque or Scar-esque shulkur monster”.
The silence stretched on for a while, until Rek finally said, “Okay, this is getting really awkward. How about we play 20 Questions? To fill up the time while waiting for Clown and Minute?” SB nodded, before remembering that Rek was sorting the items, and could not see him, so he replied with an affirmative.
Rek clapped his hands. “Great! Uh, I’ll start first. What’s your favourite food?”
SB tilted his head. Favourite food? He had a few foods that he really liked, but there was one that, not only can it be made in every version, but also tasted good. “Probably mantou or youtiao.”
SB could practically hear the questioning in Rek’s voice as he asked, “Wait really? They’re from China, right? And they’re also one of the few food items that can be made in every version I believe?”
“Yeah. Mini introduced them to me when I was helping him with redstone on a Server that went from the oldest version to the newest version. I’ve enjoyed it ever since. You might be the first person besides everyone on that Server that I’ve told, actually.”
“Wait, that's so cool! Nice to know I’m the first,” Rek joked.
SB smiled, before asking his question, “Favourite colour?”
“Hmm… definitely blue for sure!”
“Blue is a nice colour.”
“For sure. Favourite animal?”
“Do you even have to ask? Penguin.”
“Yeah, that makes sense. I don’t know why I thought it would be different, considering the fact that you’re a penguin hybrid.”
“Haha. Favourite game?”
“I don’t really have a favourite, but I’d say… Terraria for the moment? It’s a really fun game! What about you? What’s your favourite game?”
“Sonic for sure.”
“Ohhh, yeah I can see why.”
“Least favourite fruit?”
“Least favourite… it’ll probably have to be durians. I dislike the smell.”
“I agree. It’s not the best.”
“Yeah. Can you get some materials from the overworld?”
SB opened his mouth, about to reply, then paused. He spun around to face Rek, who had paused sorting the items to stare sheepishly at him. Rek scratched the back of his head, an awkward smile on his face. “That wasn’t part of the questions, I assume?” SB questioned, amused.
Rek chuckled. “Yeah… I realised that we didn’t have chicken eggs, some plant seeds, amongst other things. Do you think you can help me get it? You’re the only one who knows how to reset a chunk anyways, so…” Rek trailed off at the end, eyes drifting downwards.
SB smiled, replying, “Sure. Just send me a list.” Without waiting for a reply (he could hear a few noises of indignation from Rek), he quickly grabbed a few needed items and jumped into the portal, landing on the grass at Spawn.
His Comm buzzed, and checking it revealed that it was Rek who messaged.
Rekrap2 whispered to you: Ok so we need chicken eggs, beetroot and pumpkin seeds, probably should get more dirt and stone too, maybe some ores? And netherite from the Nether if you can
Rekrap2 whispered to you: Oh and make sure you don’t get caught
You whispered to Rekrap2: Got it
SB turned around, preparing to go get the materials. And came face to face with Yungy and Pentar.
“You’re getting materials for Rek?” Pentar questioned, a bewildered expression on his face. SB sucked in a sharp breath. Okay, this was- well bad was an understatement. Of everyone, people from Team Bing were the people who wanted to encounter the least.
SB gave them a shaky smile, raising a hand, “Hello. Can I leave?” Yungy gave him a bored look, gripping his sword tightly. Pentar mimicked his action, gripping a potion tightly in his other hand, excitement visible on his face.
“And why should we let you leave?” Yungy drawled, pointing his sword at SB’s neck. SB slowly raised both his hands in a placating manner, hoping that would let them leave him alone.
“Because I’m only here to gather materials? Will you leave me alone if I gave you each a heart?” SB tried. He knew he would not be able to win that fight, not in the slightest. So, he was trying to bargain with them in hopes of being allowed to leave without dying. Seeing as they didn’t appear convinced, he increased the offer. “Two each?” No reaction. “Three?” he tried meekly. Pentar turned to look at Yungy, clearly swayed.
Yungy’s face only hardened, and he asked, “Where would you rather die, SB?” SB could hardly get a word out before Yungy swung at his neck, barely managing to dodge the swipe.
And that brought SB to where he was right now.
SB grimaced. He grabbed his ender pearls, and started pearling out of Spawn. He could faintly hear the shouts and yells of Yungy and Pentar behind him. He knew he was likely not going to make it out of this battle unscathed. He did not have a lot of PvP materials with him and Pentar and Yungy were much better fighters.
SB was soon proven correct as he felt a slash at his arm, hissing as he felt blood slowly drip down it. He threw another ender pearl, but unexpectedly, it landed in a ravine. Thankfully, he didn’t fall far, but the fall was enough to deal a good few hearts of damage, and he was pretty sure his leg was broken.
Leg screaming in agony, he dragged himself into a standing position, using the wall for support, grabbing a golden apple and eating it. He used his pickaxe to mine into the wall, quickly replacing the blocks behind him. He tried to go in a random zigzag pattern so they would not manage to find him, but he was mining at a slower pace than usual due to the slash on his arm, which had thankfully sealed, but was still throbbing.
Choosing to stop so that Yungy and Pentar would not hear him mining, because he could hear their muffled voices, he took out his Comm to message Rek about the developments.
You whisper to Rekrap2: Pentar and Yungy were at Spawn and they’re chasing me right now
You whisper to Rekrap2: I’m hiding in a wall in a ravine right now but I think they may find me
Rekrap2 whispered to you: WHAT
Rekrap2 whispered to you: Do you need me to come help??? I can make an escape tunnel or hold them off
You whisper to Rekrap2: No, it’s fine
You whisper to Rekrap2: We need someone to take care of the base anyways
Rekrap2 whispered to you: I’m not convinced but alright, stay safe
Xelqua bless Rek’s kind soul. He’s too pure for this world.
(Somewhere on Hermitcraft whilst fishing, Grian sneezes.)
SB leaned against the stone wall, and took a shuddering breath. He could hear mining, and the voices of Yungy and Pentar slowly coming closer. He didn’t really notice it before, too focused on escaping, but now that he had time to think, the only thing on his mind was how overwhelming the darkness was. He was in a two-by-one, and the darkness only served to make the already small space even tighter. He slid down the wall, bringing his knees to his chest and wrapping his arms around them.
The darkness felt ever-consuming, yet SB didn’t want to put a torch down, just in case Yungy or Pentar mined the block above him. If he stared at the darkness long enough, he could imagine Mini was there, perhaps waving at him or dragging him somewhere. Then Mini would sit him down, and tell a different tale of something funny that happened on Evolution, or perhaps walk him through a new idea. Then there would be a light, and Yungy and Pentar would walk-
wait what? Mini didn’t know Pentar or Yungy well.
SB looked up, and was greeted by Yungy’s stern expression and Pentar’s indifferent look. He could see what appeared to be a web of tunnels, likely from them trying to find him. SB chuckled nervously, stumbling to his feet. “I don’t suppose we can talk?” SB tried, a weak grin on his face. Judging by the raised eyebrows from the two of them, he would guess not.
“Drop all your items SB,” Yungy replied coldly, pointing his sword at SB’s neck, his own blood visible on it. SB scanned the space in front of him. Pentar and Yungy were full body blocking the way out, but there was a small gap between Pentar and the tunnel wall.
Trying his luck, SB slipped to the side, and ran to the gap between Pentar and the wall, Yungy going rigid with surprise. “Do something, Pentar!” Yungy yelled. Pentar, unfortunately, seemed to get the memo, slamming his body against SB. The penguin hybrid choked, air leaving his lungs at the sheer force as he hit the walls. He knew Pentar was strong, but oh Xelqua he was not expecting that.
Two sets of hands manhandled his body to the ground, gripping his wrists tightly against his back, a heavy weight (probably Pentar’s) on his leg, essentially pinning him down to the ground. His armor was forcefully wrenched off his body, a sword cutting the leather straps that held his chestplate and leggings in place, while his helmet and boots were simply yanked off.
“SB, bro, drop all your items. I won’t repeat it again,” Yungy hissed, a sword pointed at his neck again for the third time today.
“Can I at least keep my food?” SB asked, in what was, in his opinion, a valid question. From the sword pressing harder at his neck, and the fact he could feel a bit of blood dripping down it, SB assumed not. “Then can my hand be freed to… well… you know?” Thankfully, one of his hands was freed, and he dropped everything in his inventory on the ground.
The weight on his leg lifted, but the hands on his wrists remained, and he was practically lifted up by someone grabbing his arm and another gripping his wrists. Yungy grabbed the front of SB’s hoodie, a threatening tone in his voice as he spoke, “We’re going to Team Bing’s base right now. You better not run, or we’re banning you off the Server.”
Well, SB did not want that, so with a sigh, he nodded. As they dragged him out of the ravine and to their base, SB had only one thought on his mind: Well, this was going to be fun. Not.
