Work Text:

The fire was purple and blue, but super fucking warm. And the stars were twinkling above them. Obviously not stars in Hell, because they don’t have those. But stars from the human world.

A sign that a Prince of the Ars Goetia was with them.

Blitz glanced at Stolas before staring intently at his marshmallow. It always made him kinda nervous when Stolas was around. The fucker was just too handsome.

He watched the purple and blue fire dance around the sweet, trying really hard to not think about Stolas in his pretty clothes with his snatched waist. The stupid choker he liked wearing or the hot way his head feathers styled over his forehead, covering up one of his upper eyes.

He was the perfect emo to his punk.

The thought made Blitz blush and his hands tightened on the long metal fork that Fizz got from somewhere in the kitchen.

He could see Stolas moving beside him out of the corner of his eye, talking to Fizz about something, but Blitz wasn’t really paying attention to their conversation. Nah, he was trying to be super subtle about inching closer to Stolas.

Stupid cute bird in his stupid cute pants.

Blitz finally looked over and saw Fizz showing Stolas how to make a s’more. Barbie handed him the flaming marshmallows as Stolas stared at Fizz to make sure he could copy his movements.

Blitz smiled and watched Stolas’ red eyes brighten as he was passed a smore and swallowed half of it in one go.

He laughed, his own marshmallow falling into the fire. It was a goner. “Fuck, Stols. You’re supposed to actually enjoy the s'more. Not swallow it whole.”

Barbie rolled her eyes and waved another marshmallow at Stolas. “Don’t worry, I’ve got another one cooking.”

Stolas caught a graham cracker that fell from his mouth and tried to talk around the sticky marshmallow he couldn’t swallow. “I- Wait-”

Blitz laughed and passed Stolas his drink. “Seems like melting marshmallows and bird beaks don’t mix, huh?”

Stolas took it with his free hand and swallowed roughly. “Oh my, I didn’t expect it to be so messy.”

Blitz chuckled and scooted closer to him, leaning forward with a rag and wiping the bit of chocolate off of Stolas that was at the corner of his beak. Stolas blinked, blushing prettily, but leaned forward to bring himself closer to him. Blitz smiled softly at him.

There was movement out of the corner of his eye and Blitz looked to see Fizz leaning towards Barbie, whispering something in her ear that had her grinning.

“A- anyways.” Blitz coughed and leaned back, dropping the rag to his lap. “What were we doing?”

The fire crackled in front of them as Fizz and Barbie grinned at him, ignoring his question. He narrowed his eyes, aware that they were totally fucking scheming right in front of him.

Stolas wasn’t paying attention. He offered Blitz his drink back and gave him a small smile, “Thanks, Blitz. I’ll try to be more careful this time.”

Blitz took his drink and bumped his shoulder against Stolas’ arm. “Nah, it’s cool, birdie. We just gotta practice. We’ll get you campfire ready in no time.”

“Yes, this is much better than being at the palace right now.” Stolas seemed to deflate and Blitz hated that.

He moved a bit closer, hyperaware of the fact that their legs were now touching. His whole side was warm and tingly as he smiled up at Stolas. “Hey, don’t worry about that now. Let’s just have some fun.”

Stolas’ smile was bright and dazzling. Blitz felt like the wind was getting knocked out of him.

“So, what else do we do at campfires?”

Stolas was still smiling at him and blitz realized he was waiting for him to answer.

“Uh…”

Fizz cackled from across the fire. Blitz blinked, coming out of his stupor, and turned to glare at Fizz.

“It’s time for ghost stories! The best part of a campfire.”

“But…” Stolas looked at Blitz before looking back at Fizz. “Ghosts aren’t real?”

Blitz laughed and patted Stolas’ leg. “Of course not. They’re just fun stories.”

Fizz huffed and gave Blitz a look, “You don’t know that! Some of them are true.”

Blitz blinked at him, confused.

Fizz sighed and gave him another look and then slightly tilted his head towards Stolas.

“Oh!” Blitz cleared his throat. He looked up at Stolas and nodded, “There is one…”

Stolas tilted his head questioningly.

Blitz cleared his throat and stood. “One night, very late. There was a sudden sound…deep…guttural… It was like someone was drowning. And then, all of a sudden it would stop. This kept happening, every night for a week until someone was brave enough to see what it was.”

Stolas was leaning forward, eyes glowing and standing out against the purple and blue fire. He was leaning towards Blitz, his mouth slightly parted.

Fuck, he looked so cute. Why was he so fucking cute?

He glanced at Fizz and Barbie and felt his face heating up at the looks they gave him.

Blitz narrowed his eyes, trying to gather his thoughts as he started looming over Stolas. He probably couldn’t scare Fizz and Barbie, but he could Stolas.

“It was…it was…” Blitz jumped towards Stolas, “It was just Mr. Jenkins gargling before bed.”

Stolas fell back in surprise and Blitz reached forward quickly, grabbing Stolas’ arm. He pulled him forward, catching the owl in his arms. Blitz chuckled and pulled Stolas closer. “Don’t worry, birdie. I got you.”

The white feathers on Stolas’ face were completely red as he looked up at Blitz with wide eyes.

Blitz froze as Stolas’ eyes met his. “Oh, uh…sorry.”

Stolas coughed, trying to right himself. “No…I’m sorry.”

Fizz and Barbie started laughing as Blitz helped Stolas straighten himself.

“What a terrible story. Why not the House on the Hill?” Barbie ate another s’more while pointing a thumb over her shoulder.

Blitz sat back down next to Stolas. “Because there’s nothing scary about that house?”

Fizz waved his words away, “Sure there is. It’s not even just the story. Have you seen that thing?”

“It’s not even that scary!”

“You know what, Buckzo?” Fizz stood up, stretching his arm across Stolas to point at Blitz with a menacing finger. “I fucking double queef dare you to go into the Haunted House on the Hill and get the owner’s painting in the attic.”

Blitz threw his head back and laughed. “Are you fucking serious, Fizz? That ain’t shit.”

Fizz put his hands on his hips, grinning at him. “So, it shouldn’t be a problem, should it?”

Blitz stood and spread his arms, “No, it won’t be.”

“Well, I’m gonna want proof you went in the house and didn’t climb up to the attic.”

Blitz shrugged and pointed at Stolas. “I’ll bring Stols with me. You trust him more than me.”

Fizz rolled his eyes, “I trust the hellephants more than you.”

“So bringing Stols shouldn’t be a problem.”

Barbie nodded, still sitting on the ground, munching on another s’more. “That sounds good to me.”

Blitz grinned and grabbed Stolas’ hand, pulling him up and dragging him to the house. “Well, bitch. I’m about to prove your red ass wrong.”

The house looked terrifying as they got closer, but Blitz wasn’t going to let the fear show on his face. Not in front of Babie, and especially not in front of Fizz.

He could hear Stolas behind him, talons clicking against the pavement. That was the only sound as they walked towards the house. How the fuck did it get so quiet all of a sudden?

It wasn’t hard to get into the house, the door was basically hanging on its hinges. Blitz let go of Stolas’ hand to climb inside, over the rotting wood that used to be the door and doorframe.

He turned around and reached out for Stolas to take his hand, helping him through the doorway. Stolas’ long legs could’ve easily cleared the door, but Blitz didn’t care.

And if Stolas did care, he didn’t say anything. He reached out and grabbed Blitz’s hand gently, a small smile on his face. “Thank you.”

Blitz nodded, too nervous to say anything in reply. He led Stolas past the entrance before dropping his hand to take a look around the room.

The inside was just as broken: furniture was ripped apart, glass was laying everywhere, spider webs and dust covered everything so thickly that Blitz could barely tell what color the furniture even was.

Blitz picked up a lamp, noticed it was still plugged in, and tried to turn it on. Nothing. Well, he should’ve expected. Who the fuck was going to pay the electricity for the place?

He tossed it to the ground, shaking off the creepy feeling he had. They needed to find some sort of light if they were going to make it up to the attic in one piece.

Blitz looked around and picked up some weird looking book.

The Horrors of the Living Cell

What kind of fucking title was that?

He repressed a shiver and started flipping through the pages as Stolas wandered to a table with melted candles on them.

“B…Blitz?”

He turned to look over his shoulder and noticed Stolas frowning at everything around him. If he didn’t know him any better, Blitz would think that Stolas was allergic to the dust the way he was holding his hands together.

“Are you sure this place isn’t haunted?”

Blitz dropped the book and turned to look around the room. The trees outside looked terrible and there was a door open on the other side of the room, but it was too dark to see what it led to.

There was a creepy ass clock, Blitz could see the big hanger swaying slightly. The ticking was loud.

“Eh.” Blitz took a deep breath and then swallowed, trying to sound more confident than he felt. “Don’t be such a wuss. There’s no such things as ghosts.”

Something flashed across the room and they both jumped.

“What was that?!” Stolas reached out and grabbed Blitz’s hand, squeezing it tightly.

Blitz’s eyes widened and he felt his face heat up. Stolas was holding his fucking hand, he reached for him first. Fuck, Blitz’s heart felt like it was going to thump its way out of his chest.

Be cool, Buckzo. Be cool.

He placed a hand on his hip, grinning and puffing out his chest. “Don’t worry, Stols. I’ll keep you safe.”

Blitz’s tail wrapped around Stolas’ wrist, pulling him closer so that Stolas was right beside him.

Stolas had his hand on his chest and gave Blitz a small, shy smile.

Blitz turned around, still holding Stolas’ hands. “So, it's gonna be a bit hard trying to find a way to the attic in the dark. We’re gonna need to find some sort of light source.”

There was a snap behind him and the entire room was filled with a soft purple glow.

“Does this help?”

Blitz didn’t expect Stolas to sound so close to him. He felt like he was right behind him. “Uh…yeah. Yeah, that’s great.”

They made their way through the first floor, stepping through layers of dust that seemed to coat every inch of surface in this place. Blitz unwrapped his tail at some point, but they kept holding hands as they walked through the first floor.

Across the room, a door creaked open.

“Uhm…” Blitz took a step back, accidentally pressing himself into Stolas’ chest.

Stolas caught him, gently holding him by his forearms. “Are you okay?”

His nerves were fried, Stolas was holding him! Fuck. “Y-yeah. Sorry.” Blitz jumped forward, but not far enough out of Stolas’ grasp before the same door slammed open.

Blitz jumped.

Stolas jumped a moment later, but kept a tight hold on Blitz.

Blitz felt his heart drop and butterflies erupt in his stomach. “Stolas…” He turned around and looked up at the owl, who had a sheepish grin on his face. He wasn’t even trying to hide it.

Blitz narrowed his eyes. “Stols, that ain’t funny.”

Stolas used one of his hands to hide a giggle. “I’m sorry, darling. I couldn’t resist.”

Blitz turned around quickly, tail twitching by his leg.

Darling? Darling! Oh, fuck.

Blitz felt like his heart was gonna beat out of his chest. He held Stolas’ hand tighter and tossed him a grin over his shoulder. “Sure, sure. Let’s keep going, birdie.”

Blitz pulled him forward, toward the door Stolas had been playing with earlier. The house creaked as they moved their way across the hall, shadows dancing on the walls.

Something fell behind them and Stolas jumped closer to Blitz, grabbing his shoulder with his free hand. “What was that?”

“Stols…c’mon.” Blitz rolled his eyes affectionately. He turned to look up at Stolas, only to see his rare pupils shining in the red. He glanced behind him, “You didnt…?”

Stolas shook his head.

It was ridiculous, they were in a creepy, old house and completely fucking spooked. But Blitz felt himself floating closer to Stolas, looking at his beak before meeting his eyes again.

He heard Stolas’ breath catch, but he leaned down, closing the distance-

The massive clock fell and the sound of glass breaking and a bell screeched through the house.

“Shit!”

Blitz pulled Stolas down the rest of the hall, yanking him up the stairs. They climbed the three flights and then they stopped, both of them huffing.

Blitz was bent at the waist, tail wrapped around Stolas’ to keep him in reach.

Stolas was also breathing hard, leaning back against a wall and staring at the ceiling. “I…I could have… floated us up. Or something.”

Blitz stood up and put his hands on his waist. “Sorry. Didn’t think about it because I was pulling you to safety.”

Stolas was still taking deep breaths as he smiled at Blitz. “You did…indeed.”

“Oh, we gotta get you working out more. You should be able to keep up with me with legs like your’s.”

Stolas waved a hand at Blitz, ignoring his comment.

Blitz laughed and looked around.

They were definitely in the attic. The whole place gave a weird and creepy vibe. The place was dusty and had webs everywhere. It was so dark, Blitz could barely see five feet in front of him.

Stolas stepped up beside Blitz, snapping his fingers to create a small flame.

Blitz jumped. He didn’t realize Stolas was so close to him.

Stolas leaned down to Blitz’s level and whispered, “Are you okay?”

Blitz couldn’t think straight. Stolas was so close he could smell the fancy oils he said he had to use all the time.

He turned his head and noticed that Stolas’ face was so close to his. “Stols.”

Stolas blinked in surprise, finally realizing the position they were in.

They didn’t move any closer, but Blitz felt warm. He could feel the butterflies in his stomach and his palms started to sweat.

“Stols.”

“Yes?” Stolas didn’t move and Blitz could tell his eyes were on him, even without the pupils.

“If it’s good with you, I’m gonna kiss you right now.”

Stolas squeaked and Blitz found it adorable as fuck. But he did nod, and Blitz didn’t hesitate.

Blitz leaned forward, holding Stolas’ face in his hands, and closed his eyes. He didn’t think it was going to be so terrifying to kiss him, but it’s Stolas…his friend that he’s been crushing on for literal years.

Stolas pressed forward and closed the gap between them.

Blitz’s heart exploded in his chest, there’s no doubt because why else would he be fucking shaking this much from nerves? And his tail moved on its own, tightening around Stolas’ waist, pulling him closer.

Stolas pulled back for a moment, gasping for air.

He wasn’t any better off, huffing through a smile. “Wow.”

Stolas giggled. “Yes. My thoughts exactly.”

Blitz’s claws ran through Stolas’ face feathers. “I’ve been waiting a long time for that.”

“Would you believe me if I said I’ve been waiting, too?”

Blitz laughed loudly, pulling away from Stolas for a moment. His tail didn’t move though. “Wow, so we’re both fucking stupid.”

Stolas laughed and ran a talon down Blitz’s horn. “Would Stupid One be interested in joining Stupid Two on a planet he’s just discovered?”

Blitz nodded eagerly and grabbed Stolas, “Lead the way.”

Fizz squinted through the dusty window and punched Barbie in the shoulder. “It worked!”

Barbie pumped a fist in the air. “Fuck, yeah! Those two fucking idiots finally did it.”

They laughed and stared up at the green sky of greed.

“Do you think Blitz will be mad when we tell him we dropped the clock?”

Barbie shrugged, “Probably, but then he’ll thank us. He’s been making eyes at Stolas for ages now.”

The sound of a portal opening caught their attention. They turned around and saw Stolas leading Blitz through the purple glowing hole in the center of the room before it closed behind them.

“Well, guess they’re going on a space date.” Barbie huffed a laugh and turned around to help Fizz climb down the house.

They made it down the two stories and then jumped from the first floor down.

“Yeah, good thing, too.” Fizz brushed off some of the dust that coated his sleeve. “The thing they were supposed to grab from the attic wasn’t real.”

Barbie raised her eyebrows. “You said you were gonna plant something!”

Fizz laughed, “Yeah, well. Now it doesn’t matter! But I don’t know how long we’ll be waiting for them to come back.”

Their purple campfire was still burning when they made their way back, bright against the dark green sky of Greed. Barbie shrugged, “More s’mores for us.”
