Chapter Text
In the last few weeks, the Hoenn League has discovered 4 more wormholes opening throughout the region of Hoenn. That brings the total to over 50 discovered wormholes in the region. According to professionals, these wormholes may feature anything from a Rattata to a swarm of Metagross or even undiscovered new Pokemon that are highly dangerous. Citizens should be cautious around the wormholes and avoid them as much as possible. They are also extremely unstable and may expand or collapse at any minute. Do not, under any circumstances, enter the wormholes. You may not come back to Hoenn.
Calvin was reading a news article on his newly bought Rotom Phone.
Wormholes? That's quite weird. He thought. Surely these things won't appear around me.
As a Pokemon Coordinator aiming to become a Top Coordinator and master the Pokemon Contests in every region with his Eevee and Torchic, he couldn't care less about random wormholes appearing around Hoenn, as long as they didn't interrupt his journey.
Well, despite that, Calvin hadn’t participated in a single Pokemon contest and had not earned any ribbons. This is exactly why he was travelling to Slateport City, to finally earn his very own ribbon.
Previously, he had already earned two gym badges at Rustboro City and Dewford Town, so he was not so bad at battling after all.
While he was thinking about what he had done in the last few weeks, a Zigzagoon suddenly jumped out of the tall grass and bit his leg.
“Hey!” He shouted. “Eevee, use Swift!”
A fox-like brown Pokemon jumped out of a Poke Ball, and star-like objects appeared near the Pokemon. These objects moved rapidly and hit the Zigzagoon. “Zig!” Yelled the Zigzagoon, running away for its life.
Calvin’s Pokemon journey is always filled with these weird moments, for a reason he could not figure out. It seemed like every Pokemon just hated the name Calvin, as his friends Andres and Kristy never had this issue.
Before he could think about his horrible relationships with wild Pokemon, a set of structured buildings came into sight.
That’s Littleroot Town! He recognized. Finally, I can get some rest.
Calvin sprinted through various groups of buildings, including one that was unusually large and had a Poké Ball decoration outside, which seemed like a laboratory or research facility. As the sky went from bright cyan to yellowish orange, he stopped at a fully red building with a Poké Ball logo.
Pokemon Center. He thought. I haven’t seen this in days.
He quickly healed his Pokemon, had a quick dinner (which was fine, but it's about as good as what a Pokemon Center free meal could be), and got to rest.
In the early morning, before the sun had risen, Calvin woke up. He wasn’t going to do anything important, but he rushed out of the Pokemon Center and arrived at the Littleroot Promenade.
In front of him was a peaceful blue ocean that could soothe anyone’s mind. It was almost like a natural mirror created by Mother Nature. As he was admiring the beauty of the ocean, the sun slowly rose. This red, flaming ball, almost like an egg yolk, combined with its reflection in the water, left Calvin stunned.
“Whoa…” he exclaimed. “This is the best scene I have seen in a long time…”
He just couldn’t get himself out of this moment until the Sun had fully risen and the skies turned bright blue again. He restocked some items at the Poke Mart before continuing his journey to Slateport City again.
Calvin saw many more Zigzagoon and Poochyena on Route 101, and as usual, he got attacked by quite a few of them. However, none of this would even come close to what would happen next.
That's another Zigzagoon down. thought Calvin. I don't know how many more to go.
But when he turned back to the front to continue his trip, he saw one of the worst things he could have seen at that moment.
A purplish blue, irregularly shaped portal-like thing had opened up, and even seemed to be expanding.
Is that… a wormhole?! Calvin panicked.
Realizing that it was a wormhole and remembering that they are extremely dangerous, Calvin tried his best to run away to save his dear life. Unfortunately, it was too late. Calvin felt a pulling force coming out of the wormhole, and he couldn't do anything but attempt to resist this force.
Oh lord Rayquaza… Please let me come back after this…
“Eevee!” said Calvin. “Use Swift on the wormhole.”
Eevee jumped out of the Poké Ball, and rapidly moving stars were fired off against the wormhole, but they just flew into the wormhole, and no real damage was done. Obviously, wormholes can't be destroyed so easily.
With no hope left, Calvin thought about his family and friends, worrying that he may never see them again…
The inside of the wormhole was quieter than Calvin thought. There wasn't a single sound made, not a single human, not even a Pokemon, just a dark purple background and an invisible floor. This feeling of absolute silence gave Calvin goosebumps.
Wow, it's just dead empty here.
As the wormhole entrance quickly closed, Calvin knew his next best move was to explore the wormhole space and see if there were any more exits.
Calvin carefully proceeded with maximum alertness, but there was still no Pokemon.
What is this silence…? Is there a legendary Pokemon residing here…? Oh Lord Rayquaza, please no… Even thinking about that possibility almost gave Calvin a heart attack.
15 minutes passed, and Calvin had almost walked for a kilometer now. However, there was still nothing in sight. Until a minute later, when a strange building built from rocks came into view. Calvin, who was excited by the possibility of an exit yet afraid of a strong Pokemon, decided to examine the building closely.
This looks like an altar of some sort. Is it for a legendary Pokemon? I hope there's not actually a legendary here…!
Calvin, upon further inspection, found an ancient sign with some barely recognizable text written on it.
“This cursed crystal ball has been imprisoned here… to not bring further misery… One shall not come into contact with this crystal ball… or there may be dire consequences…”
What even are the consequences? I'm so confused and terrified right now… Will I turn into a Pokemon? Or disintegrate from reality??
Calvin looked at the pedestal of the altar and found a beautiful crystal ball that was purple with some blue patterns. Then, he looked down and found another piece of a sign.
“... objects move randomly because of your thoughts… communicate with the monsters…”
The rest of the text was unreadable.
Wait. Calvin paused. Is that… Psychic Power…? The power only very few possess…? No, Calvin, what are you thinking?! This crystal ball is cursed! I may become a Rattata or be cursed with eternal misfortune…!
Calvin didn't listen to himself. His curiosity overtook his alertness.
He was going to touch the crystal ball.
Stop, Calvin. Think! Think about the risks and potential outcomes of this. His mind tried one last time to stop Calvin from doing the forbidden.
Calvin touched the crystal ball.
It was a weird feeling for Calvin, to say the least. The moment he touched the ball, a flow of warmth went through his body. He felt a calming sense of peace, and all the worries in his mind perished at that exact moment. Then, a feeling of inspiration sparked in his mind. He felt like he could draw an art masterpiece better than those being displayed in the Lilycove Museum.
However, as he was having the best possible experience in his life out there, the crystal ball went dimmer and dimmer. Finally, the crystal ball went completely dark, and it happened.
The crystal ball shattered into pieces.
Calvin, in complete shock, was horrified.
What have I done…?
