It's been 20 years since Baran's eyes had seen her face. It's been long enough that she's almost started to forget what the auburn-haired woman looked like. Her eyes, her smile, her scent. She had already forgotten what her hands had mapped out so painstakingly slowly during nights that ran on too long, where she seeked asylum in a bed and body that gave her comfort, how her mind would quiet itself easily in her arms.
It's been a whole different way of life since Cassie had thought about her. The way she approached the world, the way she fit into Cassie's life like a book sliding into the perfect spot on a shelf, or like a key into a lock. She had forgotten the love and patience she'd been given by her during the lowest point in her life.
