“Oh yeah!” Phineas said suddenly. “I had a dream about you last night, Isabella!”
Isabella froze, heart thumping. As casually as she could, she replied, “Really?”
“Yeah, there was something funny about it, but I don’t remember what it was,” Phineas frowned.
“So… what happened in the dream?” Isabella probed, fists balled to contain her excitement.
“Ferb and I were at your softball game,” Phineas recounted, “and I wished you good luck.”
Isabella had never played softball in her life— a fact she did not mention as she vibrated eagerly. “And then?”
“Well, Ferb and I sat down,” Phineas continued, furrowing his brow as he tried to remember the details. “But the stadium was really big and we couldn’t see you very well, so Ferb and I had to build a pair of giant binoculars.”
Isabella chewed her lip. “Was I… wearing something cute?”
“Oh yeah, all the players were wearing onesies with bunny ears on them,” Phineas nodded. “You were on the pink team and Baljeet was on the yellow team. It was weird. That wasn’t the funny part, though. I can’t remember what was so funny about the dream…”
“So, then what happened?” Isabella asked cautiously.
“You hit a home run and the team carried you off the field,” said Phineas. “And I ran up to you.”
“Yeah?” Isabella sqeaked, suddenly excited again.
“Yeah, and I said, ‘Congratulations!’” Phineas stroked his chin thoughtfully. “And Buford was wearing a dress, but that wasn’t the funny part either.”
Isabella’s shoulders fell back to their usual position. “And then?”
“We all got ice cream to celebrate,” said Phineas, “and then the newspaper took your picture.”
Isabella cleared her throat. “Was it a pretty good picture?”
“Oh yeah, it was a good picture,” Phineas nodded. “Also, Spider-Man was the reporter, but that wasn’t the funny part either.”
Isabella suppressed a groan. “Anything else?”
“Then we drove home.”
“Right.” Isabella deflated. “Well, it sounds like it was an interesting dream.”
“Yeah, it was pretty cool,” Phineas agreed. “Oh yeah, also, you wanted to tell me something.”
“Yeah?” Isabella’s eyes widened with sudden renewed interest. “What was it?”
“I don’t know,” Phineas shrugged. “I woke up.”
“Oh.” Shoulders sagging again, she said, “Well, I’ve got Fireside Girl stuff. See you around, Phineas.”
“Bye, Isabella!” Phineas waved cheerfully. His brow furrowed as she left. “I wish I could remember what was so funny about that dream. I know I’m forgetting something.”
As he and Ferb walked back into the house, Phineas lit up. “Oh! I remember! Isabella and I were married. Man, that was a neat dream.”
