Work Text:
Everything felt like ash in his mouth. There was rubble all around him. Tim was bleeding somewhere and he was sure he should have felt the pain. But all the noise, the pain, his surroundings was like static in his ears.
Maybe it was his brain and body failing... It must be...
he wanted to look away. To close his eyes. Anything to prevent looking at the scene in front of him any more. A blink and maybe what he was seeing would change. A lie, fabricated by his brain. Fear Toxin, anything but reality.
But he could not. Despite all his efforts Tim was unable to close his eyes or move his head.
He wanted to scream at himself, to move, to do anything. To help him. But all he could do was look at Kon. Body unable to move, to help, to reach out.
Kon, who was laying on the ground in front of him, with a gaping hole in his torso. Kon who was covered in so much blood, that it was hard to tell where it came from.
Kon, whose lifeless empty blue eyes stared at him. Whose mouth was open in a silent scream.
“Kon,” The sound caught in his throat. Tim was sobbing.
“Kon-el,”
“Kon!”
Tim started calling for Kon willing him to answer. “No, please,”
“Kon!”
Somewhere within Tim knew that Kon would not answer. That he was unable to answer... Never answer again.
The irrational part of Tim was disbelieving. Tim was just resting, healing.
The sun. The sun would do its part.
The fortress! If they were able to get Kon to the fortress they could use the sun chamber to heal Kon. And then he would be okay again. Kon would wake up and Tim would be able to see the light blue eyes sparkle with emotion. He would be able to feel Kons touch, listen to his obnoxious flirting (he secretly loved) and feel his touch. Tim felt frantic as he planed his rescue mission. Clark would be able to help carry them.
“Tim!”
Slowly Tim scooted forward. He just needed to reach Kon. Everything would be okay, once he had Kon in his arms.
“Tim!”
Time felt like it was moving slow. Maybe it was Tim who was dragging himself forward at a snails pace.
Panic seemed to settle in his bones. Kon was getting further and further away.
“No KON!” Tim clawed at the ground, desperate to crawl faster. His breath was ragged uneven but Tim did not care-
Kon was getting further and further away. Darkness seemed to blend into the edges of his vision, swallowing everything but Kon.
“Don't leave me,” No!! Don't take Kon away from him! No someone do something!
Kon!
Now the darkness was swallowing Kon, slowly eating the body away! No!
“Kon!”
“KON!”
“Tim!”
The darkness had shallowed Kon whole, leaving Tim in this endless darkness.
“Tim!”
Someone was sobbing and screaming somewhere. Someone was holding Tim, pressing him close to a firm chest. His heart thudded painfully fast in his chest.
It was like his consciousness was slammed back into his body. Realising he was the one screaming and crying. Repeating Kons name over and over.
Someone was humming and rocking them back and forth.
“Shh, its okay Tim. I am here,” Kon. It was Kon holding him. Tims ear was pressed against Kons chest. Right where his heart was.
His cries had died down and he was shaking. Straining his ear he listened to the steady beat of Kons heart.
Tears ran down his cheeks as he listened to the answering. Thumb thumbthumb Thumbs.
“I am here Tim. Everything is okay. It was just a nightmare,”
“focus on my heart. Hear that beat? That means I am okay. I am here. With you. I am never leaving again,”
A nightmare. It was only a nightmare. One build from memory but a nightmare none the less.
Kon was okay. The super was here, cradling Tim to his chest, making him listening to his heart and whispering comforting words in his ear.
They stayed like this for a while longer. Tim seeking comfort in the words and touches grounding him back in reality.
Kon relieved that Tim was getting more responsive and calmer the longer he was there.
“sorry that I made you come over,”.
Kon sat up a bit better, shuffling Tim around in his lap, so he was able to look down into Tims face.
His boyfriend was mushed against his chest, hands tight around the shirt he had worn to bed earlier.
“You did not make me come over, I wanted to be here.”
Shrugging, Tim pulled away a bit so he could see Kons eyes.
“I am glad you came,” it was a whisper but Kons super hearing picked it up as clear as If Tim had been yelling.
“Me too,” Kissing Tims forehead he pulled him close again and buried his face in Tims hair.
“I will always be here for you. Weather it is an emergency, a nightmare or you're just bored,”
“You know you don't have to come over just because I have a nightmare...”
“maybe I don't have to, but I want to. Tim, I don't mind. Where else would I be at this moment? If you have a nightmare, there is nowhere else I would rahter be. Bringing you comfort, holding you like this. Pulling you back, helping you heal. That means the world to me... You mean the world to me. So please do not put yourself down or downplay your nightmares, Tim. Showering you in affection is all I want right now. I know you think this is burdensome or that you can handle it on your own.- and I know you can – but I am here too. You don't have to do it alone. That is what partners are there for. Why I am here. Because I love you and I want to share even the bad things with you. I want to be able to help you and be a comfort to you.” Kon gently squeezed tighter.
Showing he meant business. “I can handle it alone... But I hope you know, that I appreciate that I do not have to. You being here after an episode like this, means more to me than I can express.”
“Thank you Kon,” Tim leaned up and pressed his lips against Kons in a short kiss.
Smiling gently at Tim, Kon chased his lips and gave him another sweet kiss.
“You wanna talk about it?” Kon had an idea what Tim was dreaming about. There was only one reason why Tim was calling for Kon so desperate and frantic.
“...Maybe in the morning,” “Okay, that’s fine. Do you wanna cuddle for a while?”
“please,”
Kon leaned back into the pillow pulling Tim with him, so he was situated on top of Kon, still able to listen to his heart beat.
They lay in silence, Kon tracing patterns onto Tims back, listen to his breathing get deeper, meaning sleep was about to pull him under.
Rao knew, the man needed sleep. It did not help that when he slept, Tim was chased by nightmares... Kon prayed that his lover would be able to dream good dreams while he was here.
“Sorry you had to come over, I am sure you had better things to do.” Tim apologised again, quietly. Voice sleepy.
“Imagining about cuddling you... yeah. Totally beats the real thing..” Kon teased.
“I was about to go to bed. When I noticed your heart racing. So I decided to fly over, the bat be damned.” On the way Kon hurried when Tim started calling out Kons name. Batman disliked Kon entering his city without any notice but ever since Tim had his nest, Kon just made sure to take a route without being seen by Batman or Robin. Tim made sure Kon would always be able to enter, so that was not a problem either.
Most of the time, Kon just flew in and collected Tim so they would be able to spend a day away from Gotham or Metropolis at the farm. Getting away from all the daily trouble.
“I love you,” “I know,” Kon listened to Tim fall asleep, watching his breathing and cuddling close.
He gave Tim a last kiss before closing his eyes himself.
