Work Text:
David was tapping his fingers lightly on the table in front of him. Him, Zoya and Nikolai were here to watch Genya present her thesis and now they were waiting for the verdict.
She had been wonderful, David thought. And he wasn’t even saying this because he was biased, her performance was truly amazing. He did not doubt a second that she was going to get her PhD.
One of the teachers finally stood up and went to open her the door, letting her in the room again.
"Congratulations Dr Safin" was all David could hear before his friends – and himself – stood up cheering for her. They probably were not doing something very socially appropriate for this setting but David didn’t really care right now. She did it!!
She looked up at them and smiled before concentrating on the teacher again, nodding at whatever she was saying.
Once they were done, she met them outside the room and David wrapped his arms around her, spinning her around.
"You did it, all your work paid off!! I'm so so proud of you." he told her, looking at her with pure adoration in his eyes.
“Thank you” Genya laughed, accepting the flowers Nikolai brought her.
“Yea, well done.” Said Zoya taking her free hand and squeezing it for a few seconds before letting go.
“Do we have to call you Doctor now?” asked Nikolai with a sly grin.
“I already know you’re going to do it whatever my reply is, so what’s the point answering??” replied Genya, laughing as Zoya lightly bumped Nikolai’s shoulder in a scolding motion.
David kissed her temple as they started walking to a restaurant to celebrate.
It was the end of the most important chapter in her life until now, but it was also the start of something even bigger, and she couldn't wait to see what the future held for her.
