A Rose, a wound, and a secret.

Summary:

Roman and Virgil have always had an up and down relationship, but a few certain events make a few things a bit more in the spotlight; their actual feelings for each other. But because of factors out of their control, just general awkwardness, fearing of pushing each other away, and tension with Virgil's past; everything starts changing in ways neither of them could predict... And maybe, just maybe, they could figure out a way to confess their love for each other even with all those doubts and annoyances stopping them.

Notes:

This story takes place during and after "Puzzling Logic and The Heart" (part 1 of this series) and to not fully repeat conversations, the moments that happen in both have been summarized so that this story is not clogged with old stuff. Btw, this has a mix of Roman and Virgil's old personalities and their new ones; so a lot of slight arguing and nicknames!
(And it obviously has plenty of media references sprinkled in)

Happy reading :)

Chapter 1: One Question.

Chapter Text

“Do you still hate me?” Virgil said as he and Roman were standing in his room after the latest conversation with Thomas and the others. Usually Virgil wouldn’t be this forward, but it’s something that’s been eating at him for years now.
“Hate you? Well, that’s-”
“‘ThAt’S a DiFfIcUlT qUeStIoN, vIrGiL! You say that every fucking time! Or if you do say no, you go back to insulting me next time we interact with each other! So which is it Roman? Do you hate me or not?”
Roman adjusts his sash,
“W-Well.. I- You can be very negative sometimes and-”
“Oh, I can be negative sometimes? You’re the one calling me names and acting like I’m the villain, Princey. Not me, YOU!”
“Well, you’re the one always canceling our plans every time I try to actually bond with you!”
“Because, Roman, you usually just want to try and teach me how to make my hair better or be less scary or literally nothing I would actually want to do!”
“Well then, instead of me deciding the plans, maybe YOU should try to plan something for us to bond over, huh? Would that make you feel better, Jack Smellington?”
“...”

“My cologne is blackberry scented, what do you even mean by ‘Smellington’?”
“Oh, I can really only smell the alcohol from it.”
Virgil, smelling the air, is instantly annoyed.
“That alcohol smell is from Remus trashing my room as ‘revenge’ for me leaving them.”
“That’s horrible!” Roman puts his hand on his chest, offended.
“Yea, that’s why I was planning on asking you for some of your flowers to lessen the tequila smell.”
“Oh, well, then how about this? You plan something for us to do together here and I’ll get you some fragrant foliage, deal?”
“Fine, then will you actually answer my question?”
“Sure, Emo.”
Roman leaves Virgil’s room.
“At least he said something neutral this time.”
