Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Water…

Earth…

Fire…

Air…

In a realm full of magic and wonder, We have many rulers both big and small. One for the day, one for the night, one for family, one for hope, one for magic, and one for unity.

Then there's me, Princess Avatar Iris! Princess of Friendship and the new bearer of the Element of Unity

Now I know what your going to say; Are we talking about the same Iris who was doubting herself a few years ago? What changed? I wont lie, it's definitely a lot to live up to, with my mom and aunt's legacy and all. Like come on, a Princess AND an Element of Harmony? Yeah, no pressure right? Well luckily, I have some amazing friends who are not only the new elements of harmony, but also ones who I know I can have rely on no matter what.

Mai Sato- Element of Honestly and my youngest cousin. Her mind is a sharp as her tongue, but her heart is as soft as a feather on my wing.

Gallant Steed- Element of Kindness. He may look timid and shy, but he's been through quite the adventures and has grown into a strong, courageous, and quite handsome boyfriend for a certain pink princess. But he'll always be as sweet as an apple.

Hiro Sato- Element of Laughter and my oldest cousin. While he can be a bit of a handful at times, he always knows how to make me smile whenever I'm feeling down, not to mention he throws the wildest parties!

Nori Posidonia- The Element of Generosity. Her passion for fashion and to give to others is as a strong and beautiful as her voice. One that I have never gotten tired of and always excited to hear.

Chi Nightshade- Element of Loyalty, spunky shapeshifter, and the oldest member…like literally. Her love is as limitness as her boundless personality. But I know for a fact I can always count on her to have my back when the going gets tough.

Princess Akari Blaze- Element of Magic and my soul sister who's always ready for the next adventure! Like our moms, we share a bond that goes further than friendship. She's been through just as much as I have, but we both know that despite all that has happened, our love conquers all.

Together, we faced many challenges, some bigger than others. And along the way we made many new friends, including an evil changeling queen, a Kirin, and even a half-nymph (who just so happens to be my boyfriend). Though we've also made some enemies too, but I always believed that as long as I have my friends by my side, and on occasions, a well thought out plan, we can take on whatever the world has in store for us!

But if theres one thing I learned during my time both Princess and Avatar, is that some things…

You just cant plan for…

The sun rose high over the frigid waters and icebergs as tall as the eye could see. The south pole was no place for any normal human due to its cold climate, you'd have to adapt quickly if you want to survive. That is, unless, you were a part of the water tribe.

In a canoe, floating down the large body of water sat two members of that said tribe. a boy and a girl

"It's not getting away from me this time." said the boy, as he raised his spear up high. He looked around fifteen years old with medium-brown skin, dark hazle brown hair, tied into a ponytail and buzzed at the sides, and his periwinkle-colored eyes twinkling with delight. He wore a traditional parka that all water tribe people wore when not inside their homes.

"We are gonna eat good tonight!" he said, his confidence pratically oozing from his mouth, along with drool. "Now watch and learn, Katara. This is how you catch a fish."

Katara gave him an indifferent look. She was a year younger than her brother and had a slender, yet atheltic build, mostly thanks to helping around a lot in the village. Like her brother, she had medium-brown skin, periwinkle eyes, and wore a parka similar to that of his brother but more feminine. Her hair was the same color as his, gathered into a thick braid down her back while two small braided "hair loopies" framed her face, secured with light blue bindings.

This wasn't the first time his overconfidence became his undoing and it certainly would't be the last. They had been out here for hours and have yet to catch a single fish. At this point, they were probably gonna have to eat stale seal jerky and seaweed salad again. The younger sister looked back down at the water, ehr eyes widdening when she spotted a fish, much bigger than the one her brother was trying to catch, swam right past her. Looking briefly towards his direction, she slowly took off her glove, a mixture of concentration and apprehension on her face, as she started to make a wavy motion with her wrist. After several seconds of moving it up and down, the water began to ripple and suddenly, the fish she spotted was now inside a bubble made of water. She let out a gasp, a smile forming on her face.

"Sokka, look!"

"Sshh! Katara, you're going to scare it away." A look of bliss came across his face once more as he started to dream of dinner for that night. "Mmmm ... I can already smell it cookin'."

"But, Sokka! I caught one!" she said, moving her arms around and bringing it up towards the boat. "If I can just get it a little closer I ca—"

Before she could say anything else, Sokka raised his spear and popped the bubble of water, the fish flying back into the water as Sokka was now soaking wet, much to his annoyance.

"Hey!" The girl watched, disappointed, as the fish flopped back into the water and swam away at rapid speed.

"Why is it that every time you play with magic water, I get soaked?" the older brother said irritably.

Katara sighed, visibly annoyed. "It's not "magic", it's waterbending! And it's ..."

"Yeah, yeah, an ancient art unique to our culture, blah, blah, blah." he interrpted, grabbing his pony tail, which is called a wolf tail in his tribe, and squeezed the water out. "Look, I'm just saying, that if I had weird powers, I'd keep my weirdness to myself."

She raised her eyebrow skeptically, arms crossed. "You're calling me weird? I'm not the one who makes muscles at myself every time I see my reflection in the water!"

She smiled smugly as her brother proved her point, smiling confidently and flexing his undertone bicep. His happy look vanished and he turned around to say a witty remark back, but was cut off when suddenly the canoe hit a large chunk of ice, knocking them down. Looking out, the siblings' eyes widened as they saw they were being pulled by the current before them. Sokka quickly grabbed the oar and started to steer the boat, Katara hanging on for dear life.

"Watch out! Go left! Go left!"

"I am going left!"

"Your other left!"

"Do you want to row?!"

The boat manages to stay clear of some of the icebergs, but it veered to the right with the current and became pinned by three large chunks of ice.

"Jump!" Sokka shouted as he Katara jumped on the nearest sheet of ice and their canoe was crushed into splinters, sinking into the cold waters below.

Katara slid down the sheet and nearly landed in the water, coming to a stop mere inches from the edge. She picked herself up, realizing that they were now stranded among the hundreds of ice sheets, now with no way of getting home and worse of all, no food.

"You call that left?" she said bitterly. "I've seen the kids back at home steer better than you."

"You don't like my steering?" said Sokka, taking a little offense to that. "Well, maybe you should've waterbended us out of the ice."

Katara scoffed. "So it's my fault?"

"Who else would it be?" He kicked some snow into the water in front of him. "I knew I should've left you home! Leave it to a girl to screw things up as usual!"

This was it. The final straw. Katara's face contorted with the rising fury as her eye twitched slightly. She had kept this bottled in for far too long, and now with no way home, no food, and her brother blaming her for what was mostly his fault when she was only trying to help.

The gasket had reached its peak.

"You are the most sexist, immature, nut brained…ugh! I'm embarrassed to be related to you!"

As she was venting, she swung her arms back behind her, more furiously than the last. Unbeknownst to her, she was creating a strong wave of water that went crashing against the large iceberg behind her. Once the wave hit a large splitting crack was formed on the side, creating an arch. Sokka heard the crack and looked up. After doing a double-take, his face morphed into pure terror as little chunks of ice fell from the the fissure.

"Ever since mom died, I've been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier!" Katara shouted, her anger rising with every word as she continued to swing her arms furiously, the crack made only a second ago was now growing bigger, another one forming right after.

"Uh ... Katara ..." Sokka's voice subdued by fright of both his sister and the cracking of the ice.

"I even wash all the clothes! Have you ever smelled your dirty socks? Let me tell you, not pleasant!" As she yelled the last word, she thrusted her arms back once more, this time three cracks appearing on the chunk of ice, larger pieces falling into the water.

"Katara, settle down!" Sokka shouted, practically pleading as the color from his face was beginning to drain.

"NO! THAT’S IT!! I’m done helping you. From now on, you’re ON YOUR OWN!"

One final thrust of her arms was enough to send the final cracks into creating more fissures up the ice, one reaching the very top, breaking it in half. Sokka now petrified, looked on in horror, his expression of terror was what finally coaxed Katara to look behind her, gasping as the two chunks split apart and crashed into the water, a large wave pushing the two back as they held on for dear life. As soon it happened it was over amd the waves subsided, the two still hanging on, their hearts racing from their near death experience.

"Okay, you've gone from "weird" to "freakish", Katara." said Sokka, removing his protective arm around her.

"You mean I did that?" she asked astonishingly, gazing up at what was once the ice chunk, the pieces floating away into the horizon.

He nudged her elbow, smirking. "Yep, Congratulations."

The two then noticed bubbles rising from the surface of the water, followed by an otherworldly bluish glow. It grew bigger and bigger until a large object crashed out of the water, knocking the two back but not enough to throw them off their feet.

It was an iceberg, thought it wasn't like any iceberg they've ever seen before. It looked…different. It rocked back and forth a few times before finally coming to a rest in front of the siblings. Mesmerized by the iceberg, Katara strayed closer and stared directly into it. Behind her, Sokka halfheartedly stretches out his hand, as if to hold her back. Upon closer inspection, Katara noticed two figures inside the block of ice. One was a large creature that she couldn't identify, but the other almost looked like…a kid? It was hard to tell, but he had large ears and was bald. But what really stood out was the glowing arrows on his hands and head. Katara raised an eyebrow in confusion. There's no way that a human. They couldn't survive in an iceberg, but her doubt would soon be put to rest as something happened that caught both of them off guard, and made their hearts skip a beat.

He opened his eyes, void of pupils and sharing the same colored hue from his arrows. And he was staring right at them.

"He's alive!" Katara exclaimed. Wasting no time, she grabbed Sokka's club from on his back and ran towards the iceberg. "We have to help!"

"Katara, get back here! We don't know what that thing is!" Sokka shouted, grabbing his spear and chasing after her.

The two hopped across the sheets of ice, making their way towards the glowing, mysterious iceberg. Without hesitation, Katara, once making it onto it, began striking it over and over, each hit making a bigger crack. With all her might, she swung one last time, and that was enough to finally break it. A great gust of wind, blew out from the fissure, knocking her back into Sokka, both tumbling backwards. The fissure quickly snaked its way up the orb and, upon reaching the top, completely shatters, a beam of white light shooting upwards into the sky. Once the wind died down, Katara and Sokka gazed up at the beam and were memorized by the brilliant rainbow hues that rippled outward.

"What…just happened?" Katara asked. Before he could answer, something started to move from inside the now newly formed crater. Sokka held his spear up and gripped his sister close.

"Stop!" he shouted, pointing his weapon directly at the figure as it began to pick itself up. Now standing atop the crater, the figure erected himself and looked down at them eyes and tattoos glowing brightly, the two siblings staring back in wonder and fear.

What they had no idea is that their destinies were now set in stone and that from this moment on, everything changes.
