Wilting Feathers

Summary:

[THANK YOU.]

[FOR LOVING ME TO.]

Wile smiled again and gave Roadrunner a quick kiss on his beak.

Everything was going to be alright.

After all, ACME was gone.

What could possibly ruin this period of bliss?

OR

It's been 5 months since the ACME case, and now Foghorn and Buddy have been bailed out,
and in a fury of revenge, they get back at the coyote, by restarting project Sisyphus using
a specific blue bird...
Will Wile be able to get through this?
Or will his favorite prey come out of this situation different then before?

Notes:

Okay so I have not abandoned my last fic, it's just that my cat went missing (He's okay now we found him) and I have no idea what I want the 2 filler chapters to be about.
BUT I've had this au in mind ever since I watched Coyote vs ACME and I have put a lot of thought into this fanfiction
I apologize in advance for the future chapters
Oh, and if you want content on this AU then search up Guess Who or @th3ri4n_dr34ms_13 on TikTok
(I ALREADY HAVE 2 VIDEOS UP ABOUT THE AU, YOU SHOULD TOTALLY CHECK THEM OUT! :3)

Chapter 1: Star-crossed Lovers

Summary:

They both sat there as the sun slowly descended, the first stars of the night making a glimpse in the night sky. In a way, the coyote has finally caught the roadrunner, but this time it wasn't to eat him, or tear the bird apart. It was to finally give each other the clarification on what they were.

They weren't prey and predator.

They weren't ‘just friends.’

They were something they never thought they would be.

Lovers.

Chapter Text

Everything has been sorted out.

It's been 5 months since the court case, and the Law firm’s business has been booming, and ACME is on the brink of bankruptcy. Foghorn Leghorn and Buddy Crane have been thrown in jail and it seems like they aren't getting out any time soon!

Ever since ACME’s defeat, toons all around have been way safer, without the constant fear of being blown up purely because it's ‘funny.’ One toon in particular that has gotten way better is Daffy! It took weeks of Bugs helping to get the duck back to his usual self, but in the end Daffy was better than ever! Just got really defensive whenever someone says that ACME wasn't that bad.

And Wile E. Coyote has been way more lively ever since the court case! Whenever he isn't chasing the Roadrunner he would visit Kevin and Paige, even help out with some cases in his spare time! He seems way happier now that he isn't getting blown up by ACME products 24/7!

It just seems like everything just got 10 times better ever since ACME has been defeated, and Paige couldn't be happier about it. Paige finished filing 3 different cases and is about to close up for the night, Kevin already went home so it's up to her to close the firm for the night! She approached the front door when she saw that familiar white bunny leaning against it with that trench coat. “What's up, Doc?” Bugs said while chewing on a carrot.

“Oh, Bugs! I wasn't expecting you! Did you need something cause I'm about to close up for the night.” She responded, gesturing to the keys in her hand and the door. Bugs didn't answer her, he just entered the law firm looking serious. That's unusual, usually Bugs is never this serious.

The moment she closed the door, Bugs finally answered; “Foghorn and Buddy are out of jail.” … Paige was not expecting that. “.. How?” “Someone paid for their bail, I have no idea who.” Bugs munched on his carrot as he continued; “And I have a feeling that they're gonna be up to no good!”

Who would pay for their bail? It was well over sixty grand! But Paige didn't focus on that part, she was more worried about what Bugs meant by ‘up to no good.’ “Well, how do you know they’re up to no good? ACME is on the brink of bankruptcy, there is no way they can pull something with the state that they’re in!”

Bugs walked through the law firm before lazily lounging on a chair and gestured for Paige to sit down across him. Paige obliged as Bugs spoke; “Think about it Paige, we all know that back then whoever spoke out about ACME vanished.” Paige nodded, confused on how this is relevant to anything he's saying. “And just because they’re out of money doesn't mean that they don't have the tools from Project Sisyphus.”

“Okay, but why would they continue? They don't have any toons to test on and everyone would know what they’re planning!” Paige said. Bugs sighed, placing down his carrot. “Doc, you do realize that ACME will just capture toons, right?” Paige froze, she knew ACME was messed up, but she didn't know about that, “What?”

“Look Paige, ACME doesn't see us as humans like you. In their eyes we’re test animals. Why do you think that toons who spoke up against ACME always went missing?” “Because they were taken and tested…!” Paige whispered as her eyes widened. Now that Foghorn and Buddy were out of jail, does that mean they could potentially begin doing that again?

“Exactly, exactly! And you wanna know who spoke up against ACME and won?” Paige felt her blood run cold. “Wile.” Bugs nodded “I’m not saying anything will happen, I’m just letting you know to be prepared when things go south. Especially with that coyote.”

Paige took a deep breath, maybe nothing will happen to Wile. “Okay, thank you Bugs for telling me this.” Bugs finally let that iconic smile show, he picked up his carrot and got up. “If you ever need me for anything Doc, let me know.” He left the law firm without another word.

Paige stared at the door, before looking around. She quickly found files that needed to be organized and walked over. As she began formatting the files her thoughts ran rampant. What if ACME hurts her friend? What if the Road Runner gets hurt? What if- Paige took a deep breath, calming herself. Maybe everything will be fine. Maybe there is nothing to worry about. After all ACME has gone bankrupt, they'll probably be too busy trying to fix their image instead of thinking about revenge.

After Paige was done organizing the files, she got up and finally left the law firm, locking the front door behind her.

As she walked towards her car, she couldn't help but wonder.. If Foghorn and Buddy were planning something, would they directly target Wile? Or someone he’s close to? Like the Roadrunner. Whatever. She highly doubts anyone will be harmed.

She opened her car door and slid into the driver's seat. “Nothing will happen.” She whispered as she turned the car on and drove out of the parking lot and to her house.

୨⎯⎯⎯⎯୧

Wile E. Coyote sat on the dusty sand of the desert as he watched the sunset paint the usually blue sky in beautiful shades of purple and pink. He always did enjoy settling down for once, not being blown up, not chasing the Roadrunner. It was peaceful here, a way for him to reflect on the day and wonder what tomorrow has in store.

“Beep beep!” Wile turned around as he heard that familiar noise. The blue bird stared at him with that usual smile of his, like he never felt any pain or anguish once in his life.

The bird cocked his head before raising a sign; [WHAT ARE YOU DOING?]

[NOTHING IMPORTANT.] Wile responded, smiling a bit.

[JUST THINKING.]

Roadrunner titled his head again

[ABOUT WHAT?]

[LIFE.]

[WHAT THE FUTURE HAS IN STORE FOR US.]

Roadrunner smiled as he slowly approached, staring at Wile as if silently asking if he could join. Wile smiled and nodded as Roadrunner settled down next to him, staring at the sunset.

This was what they would do. Ever since the ACME case they’ve begun acting more passively towards each other after the usual chase. And Wile can't deny that he's been cherishing these moments more than he used to.

[WILE?]

Wile glanced over, the Roadrunner was staring at him as if bracing himself for something. Slowly Wile nodded his head once, gesturing for the bird to continue.

[DO YOU LIKE ME?]

… That was not what he was expecting.

Wile froze, feeling his fur flush a tiny bit, trying to stop his tail from wagging. What did he mean by like? Like romantically? Platonically? As friends?

[WHAT DO YOU MEAN?]

The Roadrunner kept eye contact with the coyote, as if trying to read his thoughts as he whipped out the next sign.

[YOU ALWAYS CHASE ME AROUND.]

[YOU GIVE ME FOOD.]

[YOU ALWAYS STAY LOYAL.]

Wile was weirdly flattered. But what did this have to do with anything?

[YOUR EVERYTHING I'VE ALWAYS WANTED.]

Oh.

OH.

Wile stared at the Roadrunner as he turned his sign around.

[BUT DO YOU LOVE ME?]

Love.

That was the word he used this time, not like. That's when everything came crashing back to the coyote. All the chases, all the hang outs they would have after. He became increasingly aware of that fuzzy feeling slowly growing inside of him. Like butterflies flying around in his gut.

And the way Roadrunner looked right now, the hopeful gleam in his eyes as he silently waited for a response. Wile stared at him, then at the sign in the bird's wing. Finally, he lifted up his own sign.

[YES.]

He turned the sign around.

[I DO LOVE YOU.]

The Roadrunner stared at the coyote in disbelief, before his face lit up with pure, unbridled joy. He immediately pressed his beak against the coyote's nose in a short and sweet kiss, before clinging onto his fur and taking a deep breath, closing his eyes and relishing in the moment.

Wile couldn't stop the dumb little smile that spread across his face, couldn't stop his tail from swaying back and forth in delight. He immediately threw his arms around the bird in a tight hug, never wanting to let go.

Lovers.

As the moon rose behind them, Roadrunner finally looked up at Wile.

[THANK YOU.]

[FOR LOVING ME TO.]

Wile smiled again and gave Roadrunner a quick kiss on his beak.

Everything was going to be alright.

After all, ACME was gone.

What could possibly ruin this period of bliss?

Notes:

WOOOO THAT WAS CHAPTER 1!

This chapter took me a week since I'm putting a lot of effort into this AU, I have going on, plus school has been going insane and like I said in the beginning, my personal life got in my way.

I'm not going to leave this fic unfinished like the last one, especially since the newest knights of Guinevere episode has made me inspired for how I'm going to make Roadrunner after all of this.

Consider that your warning, because there is going to be lots of gore in the later chapters, AND angst.

For now, enjoy the fluff! I assure you the next chapter isn't going to be as sweet and innocent.

PS: For later chapters if you're going to listen to music, listen to Mitski for this because THAT GETS YOU FEELIN IT.
