Work Text:
He looked like a kid on Christmas day, when that rain came out.
“Osamu! Come on! Come dance with me!”
Chuuya grabbed Dazai by the collar of his shirt, pulling him off the porch and into the rain.
He hated the rain. It made his bandages wet and itchy. But like this, with Chuuya laughing loudly and smiling hard, it made it hard to hate it.
He could search for hours and not find a single reason to hate it.
Chuuya loved the rain.
When Chuuya looked so excited it made him want to have that same happiness just to see the smile on Chuuya's face.
It may have been wet and slippery but they made it work. They danced. Chuuya's head against Dazai's chest. It was beautiful.
And maybe, just maybe, did Dazai find one thing to enjoy about this life.
They spun around and Chuuya giggled when they fell into a puddle. The sound was bright and airy. Something that Dazai wanted to memorize and keep in his head for the rest of his life. Even if it was supposed to be short.
He would worship that sound.
Now, every time the rain falls it's a bittersweet feeling that comes with it. What was once supposed to be the safe space of the person he loved was now utterly depressing.
He could still hear the sound of a pulse slowing. He could still feel Chuuya's body go cold.
He still kept the wedding rings on. The only difference is that Chuuya's was stacked on top of his.
Today, the rain started again. But it was different. He could hear the sound ofI laughter getting closer.
Maybe this time, he would tie the rope right.
